I got to see this one early, and the movie perfectly captures what it feels like playing a campaign with your friends. It's tons of fun. I didn't realize how much of the cast were D&D fans. That authenticity really shows.

When we saw the movie, I called that Xenk was just the GMPC, popping in when the group needed a touch of railroading and was just a little too awesome to be an actual party member.

This movie was ABSOLUTELY worth every penny and fun for the whole family. I sincerely hope there is a sequel or at least many more D&D movies like this with the same directors, writers, etc. But also maybe a revolving cast of different well known actors for each movie. It'd also be cool to maybe see characters from Critical Role pop in from time to time.

I actually agree with that for three movies. After that I would love to see a Star Wars like trilogy that brings the party from apprentice to master. (notice that I did not say Lord of the Rings).

Sad to see Kirk flounder but Pine is knocking out good roles left and right. I played D&D in the mid-80s but switched to Rifts in 90.. From what I have seen these guys NAILED it! The movie looks epic.

Technically he's more of a Rouge that pretends to be a bard. Maybe even a mastermind or inquisitive?

I'd say he's a Mastermind Rogue, yes, due to him coming up with plans and supporting the team. I think he has sneak attack, but he does it through clubbing people with his lute, which suggests he's also got the tavern brawler feat.

@@kieran10202 Yeah exactly. And he doesn't really cast Bard spells, and the way he seems to inspire people may be the Inspiring Leader feat.

Chris Pine's character was not even a bard. He was more likely a rogue, maybe thief subclass with a proficiency in performance.

I love that the actor who played Xenk understood the character. Xenk is supposed to be the shoe-in "main character" syndrome type of character. good at everything, bad at nothing. but nobody likes to be around him. lmao.
