Thank you for having me on Paddy- ขอบคุณ ครับ. Here are my Top 10 tips for Remote Work in Thailand and around the world: 1. Don't think of needing to commit for one year - pick a period of 1-3 months and see if things are right for you 2. Thailand and East Asia has some of the best internet speeds in the world - particularly good for internet intensive work like video editing 3. When moving to Thailand - consult local advertising boards, go walking near popular areas and speak with working people to find the best accommodation. You will save 50-70% compared to Airbnb and hotel prices 4. Take time to learn the local language as that will give you a great source of purpose and fulfillment in your day to day activities 5. It is possible to eat for under $3 a meal in Thailand; make sure you explore outside the major tourist areas and eat where the locals eat! 6. For insurance I love a product called SafetyWing that gives me $1,000,000 of coverage for very little per month 7. Stick to building your relationship with one major air alliance as status gives you great coverage when travelling alone 8. Don't stay in the regular tourist spots like Sukumvit, Asok e.t.c - make sure you get out of downtown Bangkok to get the real Thai experience 9. Consider a dual sim whilst remote working to maintain the best of both worlds 10. Use an EOR provider to hire locals to support you without needing to create a business domestically ขอให้โชคดี - Good luck!

Interesting video for digital nomads working places in Bangkok ( my preferred one is Sathorn). I will look for places in other towns myself if I have the opportunity during some vacations (Hua Hin, Pattaya, .Nong Khai ...). I dont want to be a "real digital nomad" ...only a retiree continuing to work in maths and computer science and maybe getting into collaborative projects.

Most people i talk to who have learnt thai to some extent never learn to read and write. To me this is a huge flaw, mostly because not knowing how to read the language you don't really know how to truly pronounce correctly. When i started my journey i learnt to read and write before i could speak well, and oh boy.. i can't learn without it now. If i speak to some of my thai friends and i cant mimic what they're saying (i still have to level up my listening skills) ill ask how they spell the words, and then i immediately know to say it correctly (the recipe is in the scripture). Now, leading up to my question.. How did you go about learning thai? I'm very curious because everyone has different stories!
@spoonkiller7elie
@spoonkiller7elie Ай бұрын
i disagree. look at how most language schools in bkk teach thai. Besides the language being mostly phonetical, learning all the exceptions to the rule takes way too long
@johnnyniklasson2956
@johnnyniklasson2956 Ай бұрын
@@spoonkiller7elie Most people don't care about being fluent, and i mean truely fluent. They just want to be able to get around. However, if you want to sound like a native thai speaker (or at the very least get understood), then you sure do need to know the rules to some extent. It took me 6 months(with breaks here and there) to learn the scripture in and out, including its history. So it's not that bad, and during your learning you do infact learn plenty of thai.
@spoonkiller7elie
@spoonkiller7elie Ай бұрын
@@johnnyniklasson2956 would take me way too much energy to learn that. I did 4 months of 15h per week just speaking and I'm sure I do have much more funny interactions than you but you do have a solid base to learn it now. as you said you only learned "plenty of thai" which I guess means that you focused on writing not on the meaning

i'm just wondering about the visas .... you can't really say unemployed. a good example is say a person WORKS for a real tv station and gets a salary. for example china's CGTN. then you have two youtubers at china fact chasers. technically youcould say they're unemployed . and yet CGTN averages 4000 views per video. and China fact chasers gets 800,000 ... so sure, if you worked for CGTN you are employed. and as a youtuber you're unemployed. but who's actually getting the views ? which show is actually more relevant ? ... i'm sure office jobs were once considered not real labor compared to working on a farm or doing manual labor. " what ? they hold a pen and sit in an office all day ? that's not work ! ' . lol. so this is all new .... and these kids are finding a new path. just wondering how they do it in terms of visas.
