How is $800 mark up over DIYing it yourself a scam? It is of *no value* to you sure - because you know how to source, build and troubleshoot a custom PC - but for a gamer who wants to try PCs with no prior knowledge, spending an extra $800 for a well put together system in addition to phone support sounds like a decent trade off. I don't know how to save $10k by changing the engine in my car bc I know nothing about building cars. I'd rather pay the $10k than get the parts and watch a youtube video myself, hope for the best.

Because it comes down to what that mark up should be: labor, expertise, warranty, etc. Considering most builds can be done very well in 4 to 6 hours by an experienced builder (custom watercooling is easily 6 to 8+, more if hardline), and 30 to 40 an hour is reasonable for a professional builder, 800 is hard to justify depending on cost overall. If the computer, parts and shipping alone, is 2000 bucks, 800 markup is horse shit. If the build is 6k because custom loop and top specs, then 800 aint nearly as bad.

@mashakos1 True, though most companies usually have 1 year support as worth 50 to 100 bucks since only a small percentage of those who get it actually call within that period. Hard to gauge worth.

I have used DS before. Outside of the clickbait title- you hit key points here. I think it is important to note the extra things that DS does for their customers who are using them in the first place. Stress testing, clean building, cable management. Not every person has the time or the stress of building their own PC and getting things running. This is where DS comes in great help from my opinion. Not only that-their builds hold up into the years. Overpriced- i will not argue there, but with 3 year part warranty on some of the builds- i would say it is a Luxury builder rather than a scam.

Let me brag on the Digital Storm computer I bought a couple of years ago. It came in around Thanksgiving. I unboxed it, hooked it up, hit the power button and..... nothing. I had power to the case (lights came on) but nothing else worked at all. I was disappointed, because I knew I would have to wait until Monday to get help with it. I decided to call anyway and was blown away by the fact that not only did someone answer the phone on Thanksgiving Day, but he STAYED on the phone with me for FOUR HOURS trying to see if we could fix the problem. I wound up having to send it back, and they had one ready to go before mine got there, and they sent it to me. Turns out the motherboard had been damaged during shipping. For THAT kind of customer service, I don't mind paying a little more. THAT is why I will ALWAYS buy any computer I don't build myself from them. Digital Storm for LIFE!

Sus title… DS is a GREAT company. Customer service is AMAZING and very accessible. Products offered are solid and assembly is absolutely top notch. You’re comparing apples and oranges. If you want to build your own PC then why would you even be on DS or NZXT website?? After assembly they stress test and optimize the system prior to it arriving at your front door. For those who want the best of the best product, service, and experience, DS is at the top and worth every dollar! My father, 77 yo, bought a PC from DS 4 years ago and it’s been running great. He’s upgraded his storage a couple of times and DS was happy to talk him through installing it even though he purchased the SSD on Amazon. He plays lots of different games, ESO is his daily game, dabbling in newer AAA games and I am amazed at how well his PC is holding up. I’m considering getting one from these guys myself because I’m impressed with the build quality and the outstanding customer service. Update: I just ordered mine. Went with the Ryzen 5, 64gb Ram and a RTX4090. Two weeks into the build and I’m getting regular updates on it. Lookin forward to see it on my Odyssey G9 Neo.

That is definitely something we noticed when researching the company. There is a part of the video that shows us upgrading a power supply in one of their computers and it was a 91-dollar upcharge for a 100w-150w increase. We probably should have spoken more in detail on that because it was not only the power supplies.

That's odd since when I thought I might be able to save some cash by buying parts and just ordering a stripped down version, I couldn't find any of the parts for more than 10- or 15 bucks less if I purchased the parts on my own. You also didn't mention that DS is one of the only companies that actually designs and has their own cases built instead of just laser engraving their own logo on a cheap chinesium case. Their cases weigh more than the competitors entire computer does.

I bought a DS this January and am very happy with it. I had a lot of help configuring it. Their specialist spent about 40 minutes answering my questions and asking a lot of their own. They actually steered me away from a model I thought I should get and explained why a different model would work better for the software I was using, and save me about $3k in the process. When it arrived there was an issue with the top port panel that became unaligned during shipping, but their tech support was extremely responsive and walked me through the steps to realign it. This is the most I've ever spend on a PC and it is by far the most powerful PC I've even owned. I built my last computer in 2017 when I had very few clients and a lot of time on my hands. This build was about 75% more $ but I'm too busy to build a PC like before. In the three weeks I've been using it I can tell this will pay for itself in no time.

I bought a Lynx model from DS in 2020. It was good for a while but what i disliked was when the pump broke down on the AIO, they wanted me to send it back to them and their customer service made it difficult to work through things. Since then i have broken down and built back up something greater. All of the old parts have either been sold, tossed, or are waiting to be sold. I would HIGHLY recommend, please, dont do what i did and drop 2200$ on a system that only costs realistically like 1300-1500 (at the time). I used to be so afraid of breaking something or messing up but trust me, it is so fun to build your own pc, so rewarding, and driver installation is so smooth.

I have a digital storm pc from 14 years ago. It lasted a bit over six years with just a graphic card and some memory upgrades. Then i pretty much replaced all the components with upgrades by buying the parts and just bringing the original case into the computer shop with all the parts I purchased and having them assemble it. So I have a computer case that is 14 years old full of components that are seven years old and getting ready to buy a new rig. Overall I found it worth the money vs having to source everything and then having to build it myself or bring it some place to have the parts installed. If there is another company out there that offers a similar or better product at a better price I'm willing to look at it.

I purchased a Velox in March of 2024. I went all out on the latest hardware.I spent $5200. It is a bit overpriced. The looks of the tower itself is not that impressive. IMO it's ugly. Customer service is always available, just be patient, it can take 3 days to get a call back. Cable management was not that great. I later learned via tech service that I wont be able to bump up my memory from 64Gb to 128GB due to voltage issues and some other ram issues. It took them 3 weeks to put this together, another week for shipping. As for packaging, they do take the time and effort to secure the monster PC in the humongous box. If I had to do this again, I would definitely buy all components and do it myself. I rate Digital Storm 3 out of 5 stars.

Yes it runs good. The specs that they offer will give the same performance even if you buy the parts themselves. The main complaint people have is that someone can build the exact same PC that they offer with the same parts (except for the case) even with hardline water cooling for much cheaper. It's not that the PC runs poorly, it's that you can buy practically the same thing for much cheaper (almost for half the price) if you're willing to build it yourself. If anything, the extra tax is for the case. Because let's be honest, it looks fire af. People will deter you from buying prebuilts since building is 99% of the time the cheaper option. But if your wallet can take the blow, it's really just up to whatever you want to do. Be it building or buying. MainGear is a nice alternative if DS may deter you in the prebuilt market.

I sent it back to them and they replaced it very quickly. I was not happy that the psu went out but that does happen on occasion. I am happy that they honored the warranty and in the last year since i got it back, the pc has worked precisely as i expected. The performance is better than expected. I run my pc about16-18 hours a day. It runs in my sleep as i fall asleep watching futurama every night. Turn it off when i go into work. So it runs alot. Im happy with it. I paid because i did not want to spend the time to update my knowledge on every minute detail that i could imagine. I just dont have that kind of time. Plus i wanted to play a few games that my old pc wasnt capable of running. Last pc was self built 12 years ago and it was still running things like fallout 4 on low graphics settings lol. 100% we see this as a possibility with them, they’re a premium company that has always been known for their build quality and warranties, it just comes down to the consumer if they’re willing to pay that extra money for the reassurance of a warranty and customer service . Although building yourself does give on average 2-3 years of RMA from the manufacturer this process can be tedious compared to a company just pulling the extra part out of inventory. Although we always recommend people to build their own it seems you knew the “downsides”when buying. Glad you had a good experience!
