Former President Donald Trump is the favourite to be the Republican candidate who will face Joe Biden in the 2024 US presidential election.
Some of Trump’s critics say this election isn’t just about policies but also about US democracy itself.
Including President Biden, who said in his first campaign speech last week, "whether democracy is still America's sacred cause is the most urgent question of our time."

It's interesting that Trump has pledged to appoint a special prosecutor to go after the current President when Trump is in court right now trying to argue that sitting Presidents have criminal immunity. All Jack Smith has to do is reference Trump's pledge against Biden in court, and his immunity defense falls apart.

This is the same 'dictator' as Biden was for 3 straight days, signing executive order after executive order, sometimes didn't even know what he was signing, just signed in front of the cameras... In case you don't know, an executive order is an order putting into place a law that wasn't passed by the other branches of government, the president just puts it in place, usually to undo something the previous administration put in place like Trump's controlled border axed to Biden's open border... Biden issued 77 in his first year, Trump issued 55...

Donald Trump's arguments consist almost entirely of, "Nuh-uh! YOU are!" and throwing tantrums. If he accuses an opponent of something, you can bet his opponent is innocent but Trump is guilty of that same charge. He has the emotional maturity of a five-year-old. And, that works for him.

It's not a governing body (I don't believe such a thing exists), but a non profit organisation that monitors and commentates on such matters, the polity scoring system is one of the best systems of it's kind to rank and compare the political status of major international states.

Well the answer, of course, is yes (from your own reporting, although you don't actually answer your own question directly), and my reaction to the BBC about Trump being a threat to US democracy is: It's about bloody time we've heard someone actually address this issue, because as far as the BBC news on the radio's concerned (I don't have a TV licence, so I can't say about stuff on TV), you'd be hard pressed to gain any impression of the threat Trump and his supporters pose. You still get the Today programme, etc., inviting MAGA Republicans and Trumpists on to talk about whatever, and the presenters generally treat them as if they're run-of-the-mill everyday spokespersons or politicians. It's infuriating, because it's not just Trump who's out to destroy US democracy, it's the entire MAGA movement, which is made up of extreme right-wing fascists (of which Trump himself is one) and Christian nationalists. You'll often hear MAGA folks say the "US is a federal republic" as a (ridiculous) argument in denial of the country's democracy. So, they're all in on destroying America's democracy, not just Trump. So to say we're in a extremely dangerous situation if Trump gets elected would be an understatement. Personally, I can't see how the world, let alone the US, will be able to survive another Trump administration, politically, environmentally, economically, and apocalyptically. If Trump get's in, everyone everywhere is doomed.
