100% agree, to ride the initial hype wave was something else. Played loads of games over the years on day of release but this somehow was different, all the memes, cheers, tears, frustrations, achievements and just general experiences shared by so many at the same time was like no other game ive played in 30 plus years of gaming. You absolutely had to be there at the time. A few mates decided to 'wait' after the initial hype had died down and play it later and whilst its obvs still great its absolutely not the same experience 12-18 months later

@@rtorbs I totally agree!! It is like we were all exploring at the same time. The subreddit was on fire!!! This experience alone is why I now buy fromsoft games at launch because the same thing happened with Armored Core VI. Fromsofware reminds you of what it feels like to be a gamer with how they craft their games.

Wow that's insane. After 200 hrs completion of Elden Ring I played Sekiro, which I just finished the final boss at around 75 hours. Personally I'd recommend playing several FromSoft games back to back before going for a NG+ on Elden Ring so that it will be so fresh all over again by then. Also, I did play about 50 hrs of Elden Ring on my Oculus quest, using a program called RESHADE which made it a 3D VR type of experience, and it was Awesome! When I do my NG+ I'll play it 100 percent in VR, it was soo good.

My first playthrough of ER was definitely the best gaming experience ive ever had. It took me months to finish it, and i was absolutely enthralled for almost 200 hrs. It has it's flaws, like anything, but that first go was just pure magic for me. Its THE game I'd erase from my memory to experience again for the first time if given a chance.

Same here. But for some reason I felf like the one-time journey was enough for me. And I've considered now and again to play through again but I just remember the tremendous work it took to make it through the first time and I decide not to do it over.
@YeOldeMachine
@YeOldeMachine 9 ай бұрын
@gamesandstuff4762 I get it, and that was kinda why I phrased my comment like I did. Imo the exploration and discovery are ER's strengths. You take that away, and it's a much less seductive prospect. Can even seem overwhelming as you described. I got a couple playthroughs out of it, but it took more than a year before I really felt like jumping back in. Even then, the experience paled in comparison to the first. It's different from most of the FromSoft catalog in that way. Replayability is just something I've gotten used to as a baseline strength of FromSoft titles, and i missed it. I think it's much more akin to Sekiro in that it's more of a "one and done" experience. I don't think it takes anything away from it, necessarily. I just think it's a consequence of its structural differences from say DS3 or Bloodborne

@gamesandstuff4762 your post resonates with me. With the amount of work and emotional effort I put into ER it makes me apprehensive to go back but to me that is the point. That kind of experience only comes with an adventure that was hard and worth it. It isn't fun for funs sake, it's a journey, rough trying and rewarding. That's more than most games can provide

This was my first souls game, I know I’m not alone with this. And despite a large crowd of new players complaining it was “too hard” I decided I would still try my hand at it despite it’s difficulty. I struggled, it was probably the hardest gaming experience of my life when starting out, from adjusting to the controls to the complexity of gameplay. I had been playing games, specifically RPGs all my life so I expected I’d be somewhat okay at it but nope. But I stayed. I wanted to play this game. I wanted to “get good.” And I did. I remember I spent ages trying to beat Rennala. Not a relatively hard boss at all but one that was fucking punishing when you were like me, a newbie that didn’t understand that you cannot afford to just spam attacks and dodge rolls stand there and take damage. It look me a few days of trying on and off. I beat her on my first try on a separate game file my second time around. This second time was also the play through where I’d beat Malenia. But this was genuinely the best gaming experience my life. It was so fulfilling. The lore, the story, the customisability is actual insanity. I love, LOVE, the fact you can just take any weapon you like and carry it through the entire game. I can’t properly describe the love I have for this game and what it bought to the table and I don’t regret buying it on a whim one bit. I’m dying for the DLC since it definitely looks like it’s going to expand on the characters and area of lore I’m most interested in. FromSoft has stolen my heart and gained all my respect. Especially since we’re now apparently in an area where many game devs think it’s okay to release unfinished games for a quick profit.

I’ve been gaming off and on for the past 40 years. Started with Atari 2600 back when I was a little boy, and I can tell you that this is by far the best game I’ve ever played. No game has kept me playing almost 2 years since its release. I start new characters to try different builds and weapons and I never get bored. My favorite thing to do is dropping my summon sign and help others fight Radagon/Elden Beast .

the thing about gaming for 40 years is that very little comes as a surprise anymore. Most games I play remind me of something else. There have only been two games in the last decade that have given me a true sense of wonder and a deep feeling of something 'new'. They are Subnautica and Elden Ring, and for as weird and unique as Subnautica is, absolutely nothing comes close to the wonder I felt playing Elden Ring for the first time.

I kept playing it for over 6 months straight and took a break got Remnant 2 and Lords of the Fallen and still no game can compare . Think I'm going to play it again to beef up my characters with items to ready them for the DLC that will release . And if that DLC cost money its going to be worth every freaking penny .

It's very close but I may put Dark Souls 1 ahead of it. Mostly because 90% of what made Elden Ring great was already present in Dark Souls (and Demon Souls). The incredibly innovative multiplayer (both pve and pvp) was definitely a milestone in gaming. The game's even superior to Elden Ring in some regards, for example the NPCs were more memorable (Onion dude, Solaire, Lautrec, etc.). And then the map: how it was interconnected was absolute perfection. Also the atmosphere when you reach Anor Londo for the first time is unmatched to this day by any Souls game. Elden Ring refined everything but Dark Souls feels so inspired. It's hard to recreate the "original" magic. @@dominicp9296

I personally love how elastic the build making is. Unlike in a typical RPG I don't have to invest points into some complex skill tree but I can immediately gain some variety in my playstyle by just swapping a weapon or slotted spells. Let's say I want to be an assassin. In a typical game I would probably invest from a dozen to several dozen nodes in a skill tree just to max my build in bows, daggers or poison for example. Here I just have my attributes focused on dexterity and this just allows me to swap between daggers, whips, claws, katanas or crossbows - all fitting for the type of character I want to play. Of course it also adds to the flavor that this is a third person action games and I can see all these cool attacks up close animated in great detail with a huge variety of weird, fucked up critters to test them on. On top of this the fact that what would normally in games be "skills" is tied to items we find instead of stuff you unlock per level makes it so that exploration is much more rewarding. Each dungeon won't just give me a exp, gold or a weapon with a new + 15% fire damage but might provide me with an actual unique spell or ash of war. Another whole other draw of Elden Ring to me is just the type of world we get to explore. I'm fine with the open world trend and I'm glad we get to have games with more high fidelity and realistic graphics. But a lot of this has been used to just create pretty boring looking games. Even in fantasy worlds like Skyrim, Witcher or Dragon's Dogma pretty much all the landscape is just filled with typical european forests, plains and mountains. Elden Ring actually has a unique and fantastic looking world. You'll have a whole land covered in pink rot, an underground with what looks like stars on the ceiling, a city covered by the corpse of a dragon, a snow covered mountaintop connected by giant iron chains with corpses of giants sticking out everywhere. It comes a bit closed to the weird fantasy worlds we used to see in games like Planescape or Morrowind yet with the graphical fidelity closer to modern games.

Depending on where you are in the game as far as levels and skills, it’s not as “elastic” as you make it seem to switch builds and skill. Limited amount of respec items, which means it’s difficult to go from a faith build to a des build. Plus the huge variety of weapons and skills in general at your disposal. I’m not necessarily saying a respec should be free, but it’s not as easy as you make it sound.
@Pacal_II
@Pacal_II 9 ай бұрын
@@georgen5882 I'm not sure you read what I wrote in full. I wasn't talking about full respecs. Like switching from a mage to a heavy-weapon warrior. I mean the elasticity in the confines of a type. The only real flaw of the game is reused assets for side-dungeons/ duplicate bosses. The dungeons are all fun, though and usually have some items worth exploring for. Duplicate bosses have always been a soulsborne thing - and with the right boss I think they can be more fun than not. The power fantasy, build variety, exploration, mystery and overall quality of the game is unmatched in recent memory. OoT was my 'best game of all time' until Elden Ring. Its the best game ever - cannot wait for Shadow of the Erdtree.

I have been playing games for over 20 years now, I'm in my 20s still, played all the Souls games, and between all of them is Elden Ring, I put Elden Ring in my top 3 best games of all time, this is a game that made me feel games have a lot more potential than what they are, that sense of wonder, exploration, and even the combat & the bosses, are just out of this world. I give it a straight 10 out of 10, very exceedingly few games I give to them that score.

Best gaming experience I've had in a long time. Went in got my a$$ kicked multiple times and pushed through. Beat it 10 times with 10 different builds thanks to Fextralife. Went on to beat all the Dark Souls games, Sekiro, Armored Core, and Lies of P. Wouldn't have tried these without playing Elden Ring and I'm thankful because these games are amazing. Would recommend to anyone to give it a shot and power through.

This is a good idea for a series and I think too often video channels try to rip apart or mock things rather than celebrate them. I have beaten Elsen Ring over ten times between two characters. Played it solo and cooperatively with someone who had never played a Souls game. I am not a skilled Souls player and feel I largely win through grit more than mastery. One thing that I don't think your video mentioned, perhaps because it is a Souls staple, is the community. Whether it is through in-game messages, or summoning random support, you can feel that you are not alone even solo. Sure I did not trust half of the messages to hit a wall, but I still hit them and when they were true, I was grateful. It is one of my favorite games without question. Removing recency bias I feel that would still be true.

This game literally checked every box I’ve had in my head since I was a kid. The only thing they could possibly add was some sort of random dungeon generator akin to bloodborne to keep the exploration fresh. 10/10 masterpiece from me. The TRUE feeling of exploration in a bleak world full of dungeon crawling. Open worlds lose me when there is no internal depth to the map. Elden Ring and the souls series in general has always had that covered.

Playing as a Wretch and slowly accumulating armor and weapons is my favorite part of replaying it. My first and "main" character has gone into the NG+ cycle but since so little is changed I ultimately prefer to give it a few months and just start over. Probably the only disappointment to me was the lack of NG+ changes compared to previous games. But it is a masterpiece regardless.
