Is Excalibur Las Vegas the perfect hotel for budget travelers, or is it nothing more than "The Dirty Castle"? In this week's episode we stay at the Excalibur Las Vegas Hotel & Casino for 48 hours to determine if this property should be a must on your next Las Vegas vacation.
The Excalibur Hotel & Casino features many options for cheap eats in Las Vegas, as well as cheap rooms for when you're on a budget in Las Vegas. There is also a large gaming floor and plenty of entertainment options tucked into this castle, including their signature show The Tournament of Kings.
We received a 2 night comp offer from our play on our last visit to the MGM Grand, and while we have heard many mixed reviews about this property, including some people referring to it as "The Dirty Castle", we just had to book a stay and find out for ourselves.
So join us as we spend 48 hours at this iconic Las Vegas Strip property.
Throughout our stay we provide an overview of the Casino and gaming floor, sample a variety of foods at The Excalibur Buffet, show you some of the dining options offered in this castle. We also provide a look at the Excalibur Fun Dungeon, to find out if this "Dungeon" is a perfect activity for families in Las Vegas.
We also provide a tour of our Royal Tower King Room to see if the offerings inside are fit for a King on a budget. To finish off night one, we see their signature show Tournament of Kings, providing our honest feedback and thoughts on whether this dinner show is worth your money or time. As well as our impressions on the food.
The following day we visit the Excalibur pool and take a dip, then finish off with a dinner at the place you go when everywhere else on the Las Vegas Strip is booked, Dick's Last Resort Las Vegas. This restaurant is known for its rude service, tacky decor, and trashy atmosphere. Suffice to say, this restaurant is rude, lewd, and crude... You have been warned.
We then reflect on our stay at Excalibur and let you know whether we recommend this property as one of the best hotels on a budget, or whether you should turn away from this MGM Property with a reputation of being called "The Dirty Castle".

I’m loving these videos guys! I’ve been to Vegas from UK 4 times before but we’re heading back October 2025 for our wedding! So videos like these are super helpful for properties we’ve not stayed in yet. I absolutely love Dicks last resort. Always a spot I head to when in vegas! Keep em coming! X

We stayed at the 'caliber the 2nd month it was open. The "dungeon" games were 25¢ to play and it was the best babysitter for our 3 kiddos. There was a large "Oak tree" bar in the middle of the casino bar where my husband won $5000 back to back playing the poker machines.(4 Aces with a deuce wild) Only drawback then was they cooled the pool, it was 60°f and the spa was full of kids because of it...🤪❤️🌈❤️🌈 Great post guys...

I lived in NV when they were building this hotel. I was so excited seeing the castle go up. I have a photo I took of it half finished somewhere. It has a special place in my heart 😆 BTW there is an Orange Julius at AZ Mills (also a Dairy Queen/OJ). Great video!

I had thought about TOK, but now I think I will just go to the Renaissance Festival here in Texas and eat a turkey leg. I can get a whole day there for less money and several shows. Love your videos and reviews. I always learn from them.

I was at Excalibur the week of May 13th By how far the Tropicana is down I would say about a week before your video. I also had a king room resort tower on the 8th fl. Room was fine like yours. My offer was 4 nights $50 FP $100 RC no resort fees. People like to put down the Excalibur, but for a basic clean room it is fine!

You pretty much summed up how we felt about it. Admittedly I used the tagline “Dirty Castle” in the title because of the reputation it has and unfortunately sensationalism drives people to watch, but I have to give Excalibur this… That room minus those few small things we pointed out was clean. It was by far much cleaner than the 2nd room we showed in our Flamingo video (The Go Room). And while we were making this video we tried to be as honest and objective as possible while remembering that this property is made for a budget minded demographic and it’s not going to have all the amenities of some of the other MGM properties. For what it was, I had a great stay. While it’s not ever going to be the first option for us, if MGM was to send us another offer, we would be there in a heartbeat. It’s the type of property you book when you need a room, a fun atmosphere, and just want to save some money that will likely be spent elsewhere in Vegas. I would love to see you guys review some of the afternoon shows at the Miracle Mile shops. They are a bit cheaper than the big headliners and its often easier to go earlier in the day. One I recognized from the past is a circus style animal show. They take rescue cats and dogs and do amazing tricks. The gentleman (I think his last name is Popovich sp?) started at Circus Circus back in the 80's/90's. All the animals were taken from shelters and trained by him. I thought it was great. There are also some imitators' shows of Billy Joel/Elton John etc. Something a bit different, kind of like you two ;) Love your videos and content. Will be there in July for 4 nights, going to see Sir Rod Stewart. Staying at Palazzo though, not the dirty castle, lol.

I love an animal act! I haven’t heard of this one yet, but I will do some research. Shows can be hard since there is only so much filming that we can get away with, and often it may not lend to being able to do a full video, but we may be able to figure something out. Glad you visited Excalibur. Never stayed there but been there plenty of times. The casino I do love. It’s MGM budget at its best! lol. I’m still thinking of seeing TOK but haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet. Sorry that you all didn’t have a great time at it. Sounds like we won’t go lol. Ty for biting the bullet for us. 😂. Had TOK been cheaper overall, I probably wouldn’t have disliked it as much as I did. I actually thoroughly enjoyed the pool at Excalibur. The garlic parm wings at dick’s are some of best I’ve had. They also really keep the price tag down instead of getting a full meal. Nice video guys, I love Excalibur

Your best video yet. Whenever someone says “I’m only doing this…” it’s going to be a great video. I like that you include the cost of things; the Vegas prices blew my mind on our first trip (and we live in the most expensive city in the country). So funny, the paper hats. How did they know?

I love the Tourment of Kings show, and I'm 53! :) But, it's not something we need to do that often. My wife hated it. We've only done it twice, once in 2011 when we got married, and last year when we went. Might go again in another 13 years. We also saw Mat King and had a blast. We also love Buca di Beppo. Have you guys done a review of that place? If not, I'd love to see one. I hope to get to Dick's next time we head out, but my wife's not sure if she wants to go.

I am glad to have ticked the Tournament of Kings off the bucket list as I have been wanting to do this type of dinner show all my life (never got to do it as a kid), but while I did have fun, it was a bit overstimulating for me and the food was definitely not the star of the show, but I have to say that I’m glad I did it, it’s just not for me. As for Buca do Beppo we did intentionally skip it as it is something very prevalent at home in Phoenix, so it’s a bit of a harder sell for us to do a full video about it when there’s a lot of options unique to Vegas. Additionally the family sized portions can be a lot for two people when we are often devoting stomach space to multiple meals to make our videos. But I can say that I enjoy Buca Di Beppo as everything on the menu is family sized and the whole idea of family sized portions for sharing is definitely a selling point and a great way for groups to dine together and save some money. Plus Buca is just great for larger groups. -Paul

Mac King is probably the best magic show in Vegas. He came highly recommended by a friend who performs regularly at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. It’s nothing flashy but he is the best at close up magic. Great show from a technical standpoint.

Great video, as always! I do remember Orange Julius. I grew up in DC/MD area. There was an Orange Julius at an old mall called Landover Mall. That Mall is now parking for Fed Ex Field. There is a Dairy Queen/Orange Julius at Arundel Mills Mall in Maryland. I now live in PA and I haven't seen any Orange Julius' here.

I'm a little late to the comments here, so let me just say.... *takes deep breath* In my opinion, for a hotel/casino that is "just ok"...I don't think Excalibur hits it for me. It's fine that it's budget friendly, but at what cost?? Too many kids for my taste, a hit or miss buffet, worn out room, DICKS doesn't do it for me, (200 bucks to be insulted in a restaurant?? I can get that elsewhere for cheaper! Lol) Overly expensive drinks, and a not so friendly location.... Yeah, I'd rather splurge just a teensy bit more and not have my ADHD/stress levels rising. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure it's fine for all the reasons you guys say it is, just not my cup of tea. What's worse: I'm saddened the Tournament of Kings was off for you two. It used to be so much better, and the food was actually not that bad. The tomato soup was to die for!! We were there just 2 years ago, so I'm really shocked it's declined so bad so fast... Anywho..another awesome vid. Looking forward to the next.

They used to have Tomato Soup? 😮 - That sounded way better than what we were served at the show. I am not telling anyone to not see Tournament of Kings if they love jousts or that sort of thing, but I will say that the food was not spectacular at all and it was not worth what I spent on it. That being said I did finish every bite of it as I did pay for the show and the food was included (but did not want to show a stripped chicken carcass in the final video), but I stand by the under seasoned comments as that chicken lacked any flavor. And yes… lots of kids. Normally that’s also a pain point for us, but since we were mostly out and about filming things we didn’t have many issues with that. But this is definitely not an “adult” property. To be honest, we went into this one expecting the worst, but dare I say it… that room was cleaner than what we had at Flamingo 😮 That being said, we are glad that you gave this one a watch and also shared your feedback. This property is not for everyone and we realize that but we definitely wanted to have the stay there (A: because of the comp offer we got and B: Just to know for ourselves) -Paul

@@JamesandPaulTryitAll Yeah I think that's something that I would love to see you guys add to your videos things like shade and how readily available beach chairs are and such when you go . Additionally, I know for me, if you folks would add an accessibility description to some of the venues that you visit that would be absolutely stellar. And I know it would help a lot of other disabled folks like me make better choices when we travel.

@@JamesandPaulTryitAll and that's one of those things that doesn't necessarily have to be included in long form in every video but letting folks know that you periodically will come out with an update or a specific video about the accessibility that you experience or that you notice while at the various places will be really helpful for folks like me.
