Weaning off gabapentin … I had serious issues getting off of it. Cold, burning up, pouring sweat, shaking, nausea, weak, headache, depression, erratic heartbeat, can’t sleep, itching. I weaned down in small increments and when I got to the last dose, I really got sick. I went through the final stages of withdrawal for about a week. I literally thought I was going to die, and If not for the grace of God, I believe I would have. He got me through it. Now, I’m on the other side of it and grateful to God to be over it. I will NEVER go back!! Thank you, Jesus, for getting me off the rollercoaster that is gabapentin. It is a nightmare.

Maybe u need gabapentin if u think Jesus saved your life from getting off of it lol 😂 or u need something I’m just saying unless u didn’t like being tired or some side affects maybe but if it was prescribed for something u need and it still helped then I think acting like I WILL NEVER GO BACK like it’s so horrible yes it can be abused but at the same time it just puts people to sleep at a certain dose and is very much a better thing to be addicted to them opiates witch are a bitch to get off or Xanax which u can have seizures and risk of death so I get it and that’s good for u to get off if u didn’t like shit about it but adderall or anything can be abused and feels good to abuse it so just cause gabapentin can be abused doesn’t mean it’s bad and u need to taper off it if it helped then u might have anxiety or something causing u to stop taking meds u been taking based on a video or shit u may have heard by other people cause it helps a lot for many thing anxiety and nerve pain it helped so fucking much so I get it if it had some side affects or made u sleepy but every drug and I mean every drug has side affects and a lot of them are worse then those of gabapentin so I get it thay wirhdrwz we’re bad and shit and I’m glad u stopped if it was for yourself and u wanted to but based on other people words I can’t respect that or anything cuz anyone can say anything and like I said tho adhd drugs are more abused than that and n one stops cuz it’s abused it just life shits abused and it’s not that bad to abuse shit unless it’s a habit then u should prolly stop

So Happy for You and I Hope You are still going on even better. Can I ask You for how long You had the medication and which dosage? Was it capsules You use by smaller smaller amounts. I ve had about 300 - 900 mg every other day for two weeks. Do You think I Will be ill if quitting now? It has helped well but don’t want to continue it. So… Hope You see this and might have some minutes I beg You to answer 🙏🏼🌹🙏🏼

When I had problems with pain in the early 2000s every doctor wrote me tons of scripts for gabapentin & flexeril, opiates were the only thing that stopped the pain but I was made to feel like people abusing these drugs was my fault

Finally someone with honest answers. A lot of stuff is safe, until humans get involved and abuse starts. I took it a couple times because I have extensive injuries and nerve pain but it didn't help me. I dont remember why, but it wasn't the answer.

It absolutely is not! They tried to push this on all of us with fibromyalgia. It was, in my opinion, the worst thing for fibromyalgia. We had a combination of medications that were helping, a lot. But, politicians ensured that everyone on pain medication, every pain clinic cut us off. And it was brutal. Now, in my 60s, I'm addicted to fentanyl. It isn't the tragedy you might think. I'm a functioning addict. I pay my rent and bills, on time in full. My house is clean and I take very good care of myself. It isn't the answer I want, it's just what's available to me. Anyone who's experienced chronic pain, hour after hour, day after day of unrelenting pain...it's what they do to torture people, and it torture. Before you judge me walk a minute in my shoes. If you're tough enough to live with pain on a daily basis, just, wow. I'm not that strong, and if I were, would I still choose to be tortured, every day? Millions of us were cut off. Before I was cut off, my doctor had me on straight morphine. Every day for two decades. To be cut off was brutal. I wouldn't do that to someone I hated, because its *inhumane.* Many haven't survived. Two women from my pain clinic were dead in the first week, one by her own hand and the other had a heart attack. Her husband said the *fear* of untreated pain was more than she could bear. When you see people living in tents and doing opiates...some of them are like me. Don't judge.

I was given gabapentin after a lung transplant and I took it for about a month and stopped taking it because I hate any thing pain medication. I am allergic to pain killers and I will take pain over side effects that are worse than the pain. The side effects psychologically were excruciating!!!! Anxiety that made 5 minutes feel like I was suffering for days! Trust me you do not want to take this medicine for long.

It seems to go south when people take higher dosage from what ive gathered. I also take about 100 mg and I tend to be sensitive to this type of drugs but it doesn't give much side effects in capsule form and helps with sleep and nerves.

@@gustavogomez7331 Do you take it everyday? Do you take it for mental health at all? I’ve lived with chronic pain that’s undiagnosed, for years. Was prescribed this for mental health. After months of having next to my drawer, finally took it before sleep and boy did my thoughts and inability to think how I normally do started to put me in a panic. Body relaxed but my mind was racing even faster than usual. Eventually fell asleep and woke up with almost half of my body pain gone!! Didn’t know this was prescribed for nerve pain!! I didn’t know my body could eventually feel a bit better. Can you tell me more about your experience??

This hideous drug gave me tardive dyskinesia so badly I didn’t think it would ever go away. It was an off label prescription that was supposed to help with nerve pain because they wouldn’t give me any pain medication for legitimate pain. I ended up with tremors, brain sparking and it made me very aggressive and suicidal.

Holy shit! When I took it, it gave me leg twitches so bad that I didn't sleep for two nights. It was awful. I am so sensitive to psychotropic medicine that I can't take a majority of them.

@@spunkysparks1779 Yes, it was hell. At the end I was taking over 4000 mg a day. They also off labeled prescribed Seroquel for insomnia because it’s one of the side effects. Insomnia brought on by the endless amount of antidepressants they had me try that never worked. I’ve been off all of it for five years but it changed me forever. If it wasn’t a clinic that served so many people in need I would sue them to high heaven along with the pharmaceutical companies. I hope you’ve recovered.

Yes! It does all that! And it's super addictive too. Dr s love to prescribe that shiiit and love to say it's not addictive but it is and it kills you after years of being prescribed

I stopped cold turkey when I started to turn into a zombie. Prescribed by surgeon for nerve damage pain from severe back injury. I don’t regret it. I never did find a drug that would help with the pain I had. Just had to give it time to heal after surgery and the pain was bad and long lasting over 15 years later and still have pain from it and I still don’t take pain medication.

It gave my son suicidal thoughts when he would occasionally mix with alcohol. Not at the same time but he would take his pill in the morning and 🍺 at night. We stopped it immediately 😔

I tried it for 3-4 days about 5 years ago. For shingles pain. I thought I was going to die. My doctor told me nothing about the potential side effects. I called her crying, she said well, then quit taking it. Took me another 24-48 hrs. after quitting to feel human again.

F no, not safe. I took it for a year and the nerves in my back and legs felt serious issues. My leg started to buckle and I hurt my lower back bad. Stopped the medicine and 0 issues since.

I'm wondering why Valium is used as a seizure medication, when a (animal) or human is having a seizure. They are given Valium why? What part of the brain does it affect and how?

I am not a doctor. I am an addict in recovery with a fair pharmaceutical knowledge. Valium (diazepam) is a long acting benzodiazepine. They all work on the GABBA system in the brain. Basically they slow down brain and central nervous system function. Some one might be given them for seizures because during a seizure your brain and central nervous system are over active, basically sending signals they shouldn't be, firing wildly, at least that is my understanding of it. Valium could help slow the brain and CNS down during a seizure or possibly help prevent them in the first place. Again I am not a Dr. I have used Valium myself to treat what would seem to be a CNS issue, it worked very well but at the same time it was too addictive and not appropriate for me to be taking. I hope that helps you.

This doctor hates gabapatien…however, if you use it correctly you can get off opioids. It helps withdrawal so much I wouldn’t have made it without it. After day 7-8 I stopped taking it and that was the end of it.

It helps with that restlessness you get from opioid withdrawal. The feeling of not being able to sit or lye still. For me, that’s the worst part of the withdrawals. Especially at night when you can’t sleep.

@@MisterCritch it is amazing for opioid withdrawals. So I am told this Doctor loves to put People on subs. It made more sense to me because why not give ppl gabapatien and then the vivitrol shot? ESP for people who can make it a week-10 days clean. Subs have their place, but when people are vulnerable , tired, not feeling well , low energy naturally they’re going to want something to bring them back to baseline (feeling “normal”) all I am saying is give yourselves a chance everyone who may read this. After 30 days your sleep regulates, energy will return, you’ll feel so much better not addicted to any kind of narcotics. Good Luck everyone

@@MisterCritchI have a whole bottle of gaba but never used it . Does it really help with restless leg syndrome? Cause that’s about all the side effects I get from getting off oxy . That’s the most irritating part . After 4-5 days I’m good . But that first 5 days are sickening trying to sleep . Had to take oxy for a month again , and now coming off of it tomorrow again. Does that gaba make u feel weird like tired or give anxiety?

Like almost every other drug, it depends. The lowest dose for most drugs is the safest dose. Rather than “complain” about this drug, perhaps the best recommendation is to posit that the dose(s) recommended on the package insert are too high. There are good reasons for pharmacists to exist. I don’t know why guys your doctor is putting you on high doses of gabapentin especially for long term. I was given 400mg capsules of gabapentin every 8 hours as needed. I only use it right now twice a day at most so no more then 800mg in 24 hours and I’m planning to only take it for a week or 14 days max to get rid of symptoms.

It never made me high but it also never helped at all with extreme nerve pain. But the withdrawal is hell. I am sick to my stomach constantly, my body aches, it's hard to fall and stay asleep and I have a terrible sense of dread. It is far worse than I feared it would be.

can I use it as an alcohol replacement... I have severe anxiety but I'm getting my life together and don't want to take on a new addiction.... I took one 300 mg with a couple of beers and I felt better than the usual couple of beers
