Do not Freeze hair for hair cloning! Dr. Gary Linkov talks about hair follicle banking and whether it is worth banking your hair follicles in hopes of getting your hair cloned in the future. Banking your hair follicles for future hair cloning might sound like a good idea, but be aware that we are far away from hair cloning!

I tend to agree with your conclusions on hair banking. I'm a 62 year old and I've been losing my hair slowly since I was 23. If I had a head shape as well proportioned as yours then I would just shave off what little I have left. Unfortunately, my skull shape is not made for baldness, so I now wear hair systems; but I hope that one day there will be hair multiplication, whether or not cloning. One point you raise is the DHT resistant hair within the so called horse shoe. However, there are many people, me included, where the hair loss moves into this area and thins out all of the hair (I have very little left at the sides). Before my father died in his 80s he had no hair left in this area (though that may also have been due to his final illness). One thing that interests me is whether it is now, or will soon be possible, to determine whether an individual hair cell is immune to the baldness process. If and when cloning arrives there would obvioiusly be no point in cloning cells that are going to fall out at some point in the future. The fact that they are in the horse shoe isn't necessarily a guarantee, unless you happen to be blessed with strong and thick hair growth.
@Matthew-bb9dk
@Matthew-bb9dk 2 жыл бұрын
I think you've incorrectly interpreted Hairclones strategy. They are not removing vellus hairs from DHT vulnerable zones and 'rebuilding' them ex vivo to then re-insert them. For the rejuvenatation, they are removing hair from the safe donor zone which are assumed to be DHT resistant, extracting the dermal papilae, multiplying the DP cells and then injecting them into regions of thinning hair with the hope those cells will assimilate into the dermal papilae of the thinning hair. Similar to previous attempts by Intercytex and Aderans. Although it's believed that they have a better understanding of how to maintain the 'inductivity' of multiplied DP cells compared to these previous attempts. The supposed benefits to banking is 1) banked cells are kept youthful and 2) cell multiplication takes several weeks, instead of having to have a few hairs removed, then come back weeks later for treatment everytime, you have hairs extracted once and frozen, then when you need treatment a few of those hairs can be thawed and the DP cells multiplied. Thus only requiring a single visit.
@davidsanders4013
@davidsanders4013 2 жыл бұрын
“Banked cells are kept youthful” seems like a joke to me. If the holy grail is found in 10 years (unlikely) and 40-50 year olds can then have full coverage why would we want our younger hairs on our head? We’d be happy with any hairs/full coverage that matches our visible age. Would look ridiculous to suddenly have better hair than we did when we were 20 after being balding and/or bald throughout our entire youth.

Honestly even if this doesn’t work its just very interesting in what is learned from the attempt. Just the idea of learning more on how cells work to a larger extent is fascinating. Id say we are 20-30 years away from cloning hair just based on the rodent studies. Mainly because there is evidence of it working (in some way) and i doubt that if there is signs of human working even if its like a 1% chance of success many people would be willing to donate a lot into viable companies. It seems like this is the first step in large funding for cell research as ego is a far better motivation then saving a life sadly.

Hey, I’ve been struggling with hair loss post minoxidil and there are so many differing opinions online and among different dermatologists this is kind of my last ditch effort, my hair started thinning so i thought id get on rogaine to catch it early before i started balding, turns out rogaine wasn’t right for me due to the shedding phase kicking in full force almost immediately and never even coming close to letting up for 5 months straight, my dermatologist told me to get off of rogaine and my old hair should return seeing as how i simply had thinner hair and wasnt balding before i started treating it. Long story short ive been off of rogaine for 2 weeks and the shedding has kicked in even harder and even more aggressive I understand that this is known as telegon effluvium and was wondering how long this lasts post rogaine???? Second question is, I’m going for hair transplant (FUT) in Montreal Canada in September. The maxim hair transplant the clinic can do in a day is 3000 for FUT. Do you think with FUT it could be more? I’m worried to lose any donor grafts with 3000 hairs transferred for the first session. Approximately how many grafts are available with the FUT method for a healthy patient with a Norwood VI? Thanks again!

So I know of studies that looked at regrowing heart tissue after cardiac events, it involved stem cell treatment and targeted electrophysiological stimuli. Is there any research being doing in that direction? It wouldn't be abiogenesis but the result would be morphogenesis. You "trick" (or "activate") the scalp by signalling a pathway (involving proteins like Wnt, BMP, Shh, etc.) and it should create new hair follicles, just like it does during fetal growth.

I think $3,500-$5,000 is cheap and the benefit is when they do finally get the science down you'll have the stem cells from say 15 years ago not using hair 15 years from now

I think their theory is that the earlier you take the hair, the healthier the dermal papilla cells within will be ? I am not a scientist so wouldn't like to comment on how correct this is.

@@drgarylinkov Hello Dr Gary Yes I agree with you. A few years ago I took part in an online Q&A session with somebody from Hairclone and the question was asked about why should we bank our hair follicles now and their answer was from what I can remember, about getting the DP cells whilst they are in their best condition. My own impression was, even if that was true, it was expensive without actually having the end treatment proven to actually work.

@@drgarylinkov honestly though, when someone gets the horseshoe even the donor will thin out. I met a 100 year old man at work and he had the horse shoe pattern with basically super-thin fuzz

As much as I hold onto hair cloning as my last hope, I know it means bronies will get full body hair transplants so they can tie their asshairs into a ponytail. No such thing as a free lunch.
