@@user-sm2ql7nq4l The song is about LA and his first visit to Hollywood after leaving Indiana, but the thing the guy said to him was in NYC. The song was written in Seattle when it struck him how big LA is compared to Seattle and brought back the feeling of first going there in the early 80s. There's a lot of confusion over which city the song is talking about because of this but it is indeed talking about LA, particularly Hollywood.

Yes!!!!! First time I heard this was when t premiered on MTV in 1987. I stopped what I was doing and immediately called my mom who also always had MTV on and asked "are YOU HEARING THIS?????" we were screaming in excitement and couldn't believe what we were hearing. I said to my mom that they were going to be the next Rolling Stones!!!!!!

I thought the same thing when I saw them live with Alice Cooper - I knew they were going places

I remember being a high school senior and around March '88 my friend keeps talking about this new tape he got where the singer is "F this and F that" and I'm like I need to buy this record because I also like saying "F this" LOL --- and that is how I got hooked on the mighty GNR

This was lit when I saw them in '88 opening for Rolling Stones in LA. Oh and Living Color opened for Guns n Roses. One of the greatest shows!

And most of the band were heavily into smack at the time of making this album. Imagine having that much raw talent that you can make this with a needle hanging out your arm. Crazy.

We're likely to never see again fame at that height without having being prepared to face it. Britney was at the top of the world once and trained to face it but yet she broke down. All disciplines included I can only recall a handful who managed it like George St-Pierre, Adele, Tom Brady, Justin Timberlake.

Knowing myself as I do I am pretty sure I would be a member of the 27 club .

I'm retired now but when I first started working in security my first day at work going to meet the loss prevention manager., who would end up being one of my best friends, and also a mentor later on in my career sitting outside her office.... this song was playing at a low volume over the PA system as background music. Watching this reaction was like a memory slap in the face.... Good Times. Any cop or security officer who has heard this song definitely has had a situation happen to them where this song playing like a soundtrack in their brain and was absolutely perfect trying to explain what occurred later to someone else

Oh yeah. The whiskey a gogo, the Roxy the troubadour and the golden bear in Huntington Beach. I saw them all. Lou Reed at the Roxy, One of the most memorable. The New York underground scene was just so different. The rest of my time was spent as a LA city lifeguard. I had enough fun for 20 lifetimes.!!!

It was his "craziness" that made the G-n-R music larger than life, thrilling and edgy. Yet most of the fans love Axl anyway...except maybe those he yelled at onstage or got into fights with.... (he wasn't the only hard rock musician who did that though)

However saying "welcome to LA/Hollywood, you're going to die" is not quite the same as saying "if you take heroine you're going to die". The former statement is more a challenge. Yep. Alot of the hard rock and metal might have seemed like a sledgehammer coming down, but it was so energizing and exciting, not scary.

Doubtful...Jeff Buckley /Aretha Franklin both had 8 octave solid range....Axle Roses breath control is his strong point...

Sebastian Bach can sing circles around Axl. Axl's prime was the 80s and 90s, but he is not able to hit those high notes as well now. Sebastian has power pipes that don't quit. He also has sang on Broadway. That takes quite a bit of vocal prowess.

No one going to point out Rob Halford? Axl Is my fave but if we are talking technical ability Rob Halford. Pavarotti called him the greatest male vocalist of the century.

A rather grown up theme for Girl Scouts... (and I was a Girl Scout). I wouldn't recommend girls under 18 to listen to some of the heavier drug-related songs on the album. I was actually a teen when this album came out! It was heavy duty lyrics material for a girl from the Midwest! Plus I am a writer, so I pay very close attention to singers and lyrics! :)

Carrie Ann Luikens They didn’t play this song. It was just a jungle themed dance. I just didn’t know if that particular phrasing was a little inside joke for the parents or if they chose that without realizing it.
