I’ve been heat intolerant for about 20 years now. I’ve fainted several times due to not being able to find shade or water to cool down. My heart rate increases, begin to sweat, and feeling my heart pumping in my head. I’m also allergic to UV , which makes it challenging for me as I’m a hiker and love camping. I’ve found UV resistant sleeves that are thin like nylons & my armpits are free to breathe. I’ve tried wearing long sleeve’s, but then the heat intolerance kicks in. I now carry frozen gel packs, cooling snap towels in my pack. Also more cognizant of where I’m hiking, whether it is dense forest or open. Never thought I would feel the dread of making it across an open area. ….. stopping at the tree line, looking where the sun is, distance to where I need to go to where there is shade. And if I’m already overheated, do I chance crossing the open field or add an hour to my trek following the tree line around if possible? It’s making it more challenging. Even at home doing yard work, have to get back yard stuff done by noon before the sun comes over the house! Had to buy an awning. I’ve slept with frozen packs, water or gel, place my feet in cold water, constantly having a damp towel to wipe with & using what breeze there is to cool down, in the forest I’ve had to dig into the ground to lay in the cool earth When I have a bad day, I have a hangover that lasts for about a day or two, ,,,,,,, very frustrating I joke that I’m becoming a vampire. I’m 51 now & since I’ve been in menopause for about 10 years, it has been worse.

Thank you for sharing some of your personal tips and experience! You are definitely not alone in this challenge of remaining cool, especially within the last few years & the seeminly ever rising temperatures.

Some fab tips. I have been blessed with heat and also cold intolerance. I have had this for years before I was dx with MS. Half a degree is an understatement - I feel like I am on fire! 🤣 Xx

I deal with heat and cold intolerance it’s extremely frustrating for my family. If the temperature of our house doesn’t stay between 72 and 74 my symptoms start acting up. I almost always have a thermos with something hot to drink and an insulated cup or bottle with something ice cold to drink I dress in cooling clothing with hoodies or cardigans in tow and keep the room really really cold but also have a heating pad and blankets

Same here.... I've gotten heat sick this last December and January because I was in direct sunlight. It was 55 degrees and i live in Southern Arizona where uv index is still kind of high for me.

What's weird for me is that I can be debilitated from the sun even when it's overcast and 70 degrees out. Yet I can sit in a 140 degree sauna for 25 minutes and come out just fine. Have you heard of anything like this? I thought maybe it was Uthoff's Phenomenon but I'm not sure now. It seems to be related to the sun -- I get super lethargic, slow breathing, brain fog, POTS, etc -- but ONLY outside -- and can recover after cooling off for a couple hours, or laying down.

@@majahorvat7294 - What about the sun? Also, what kind of sauna. I've only tried a traditional sauna with a heat element. I suspect I'd have trouble with an infrared sauna, since I have issues in the sun (infrared heat as well).

I can soak my feet in hot epsom salt water and not be affected by heat sensitivity. But I cannot take a hot shower in the mornings. The water has to be “room temperature” or I am done for the whole day. If the water is too cold then it makes the muscle spasticity in my calves a lot worse.

I have primary immunodeficiency, so I get frequent infections. My IG therapy also causes fevers. The thing that has helped aside from staying cool is taking Tylenol frequently. I wish there was an option besides have to rely on that medication so much.
