IMPORTANT REMINDER: When you visit Iceland, don't walk on the moss. It is fragile and takes centuries for it to grow back. Thank you for the understanding. Now go and have fun.

The Blue Lagoon was totally worth it. I loved the small, local geothermal pools around the country that were affordable but the Blue Lagoon was so beautiful and special. The silica in their geothermal pools really does improve your skin and there is something therapeutic about going from freezing temperatures to warm water and back to freezing. While I was there my skin was gorgeous and I felt so good!

as an Icelander, I recommend the Blue Lagoon. It might be a little expensive. But there aren't a whole lot of lagoons in Iceland safe enough to dip in. Plus The BL has the facility for showers etc. You should go. It is real nice and you skin will feel so good after it. Leave the later lagoons for photos, as they can be too hot to go in!

I must say that the CEO of Blue Lagoon was right when he said that the best time to visit there is during winter time as the experience is really different when you're dipping in the lagoon and there is snow falling. It makes the experience 10x more relaxing.

I used to work there (the Lava restaurant) and believe me it's a good thing it's so overpriced- the crowds are UNBELIEVABLE. They hiked the price and limited available tickets and it got a lot better. They even started charging just to enter the building to look at the lagoon. It was so crowded from tourists stopping by just to take pictures, guests and staff could barely breathe and it really impeded the service we were able to provide. People also used to try and sneak in without paying, and funny enough the restaurant staff were usually the ones that caught them since the restaurant has an entire glass wall view over the lagoon. Just remember to reserve in advance!!

I stayed at the Silica hotel when I went to Iceland. It has it’s own private blue lagoon (It was a bit smaller and connected to the big one). I’d say that was a better experience because we had it all to ourselves. Also, don’t. Walk. On. The. Rocks. You know those rocks on the side of the road? The rocks everywhere with moss growing on them? Don’t step on them!!!! They are growing and Icelandics hate it when people step on them.

Years ago - before the tourists - you got the body salts for free as they were in buckets alongside the pool. It was nice sitting up along side the pool and rub the salt all over - jump in - and repeat. I don't know about the mud. I forget the admission price back then in the early '00s but the $60 or so is absolutely worth it; if you want to waste money get the robe that you only have to return - though not for me. Recently, we have not had the time for the Blue Lagoon but your video ignited good memories, especially when we were last there when the air temp was a rare (for southern Iceland) zero (0) F with a breeze - - and now we have to return! CAUTION, I do not advise testing lava springs to skimp on lagoons. Thanks!

When I visited the Lagoon for the first time back in 2003, the tour driver told us: "You have probably never before in your lives looked forward so much to having a bath in industrial waste"The water in the lagoon is pumped up in order to heat other water for house-heating. When the most of the heat is taken from the water it is dumped into the lagoon, so this is per defenition industrial left-overs.
@Gilsworth
@Gilsworth Жыл бұрын
I know this is a 3 year old comment so apologies for necroposting, but when the lagoon was first formed in 1976 the local paper dubbed it "the poison pits" and considered it a natural disaster. It wasn't until the workers over at the geothermal power station started swimming there when it was discovered that the lagoon is very good for people with psoriasis. After some refurbishing and added amenities it went from a natural disaster to one of the 25 natural wonders of the world. The power plant got pretty lucky that it ended up this way, I would say. Not often that you find industrial waste that has health benefits. Pretty cool!

I agree, we have been there and I was struggling for two days if we should go or not..... However, the lagoon is totally worth a visit especially as you can spend couple of hours in there!

FYI blue lagoon's water comes from power plant's waste water...and the bright color is from all the silica in it.

I’ve been to the blue lagoon before they have a caffe with phone protectors and face mask with a bar in the lagoon! There are molten lava rocks above too! The water is a mix of fresh water and ocean waters and the chemicals make it that colour too. When I got my mineral white mask the lady there told me not to put it near my eyes as well and when you wanan wash it off there is like a sink in the lagoon where you can do it.

When I went, I lifted the water in my hand and it looked like normal water. The cool part is that it actually naturally drains itself every 24 so hours. :)

I noticed at the beginning of this video, he was walking on lava moss, which in Iceland is a big NO NO!!!! The lava moss takes hundreds and hundreds of years to form after a volcanic lava flow, and is very fragile. If anyone steps on the moss, it is ruined and will take hundreds and hundreds of years to re-form.

i recently went on a school trip to iceland where i visited the geothermal power station that the blue lagoon water goes through. it’s super funny that the workers there call the blue lagoon ‘waste water’ as the silica is picked up from when the water goes down into the earth and then is used in the power station. i didn’t actually go in the blue lagoon even though we walked around it however, we went to the secret lagoon which was a really nice alternative (but wasn’t blue!!)

The secret lagoon is a beautiful natural hot spring. They have changing facilities and it's the same price as a public pool. Even weekdays in the summer are mobbed at the blue lagoon. I would pay $20 max to go to the blue lagoon again. Overrated.
