Considerations to be made for Pencil: 1) This weapon is almost exclusively a Zones weapon because its paint from long distances is the best thing the main has going for it. 2) Pencil has already been considerably on the rise since the Inkjet buff since Cooler was on the rise and, as Chara pointed out, HP specials were on the decline, mitigating its main weakness. 3) Aside from the ink efficiency and movement buffs, which just let it be more flexible with its gear, Pencil is still basically the same Main it has been since launch with no changes to any of its other parameters so far. I don't think it's the right assessment to say that the Pencil is one of the worst weapons in the game. If you try to play it like all of the other chargers as a backline/midrange pick weapon, then it really is one of the worst, but it's meant to be played as more of a long-range support weapon with strong burst painting and a cooler. It has a defined niche and a strong one at that.

Honestly, yeah. The shooter accuracy buffs also feel like they pushed up the weapons that counter short range shooters more than they did the short range shooters themselves

Yeah, people just naturally focus more on negatives than positives and judge things disproportionally. I know there’s an actual psychological term for this, I just can’t remember what it is.

It was mostly Ink Armor that made just about everything else unviable, no? As long as that special stays gone and the devs don't keep getting out of hand with the Shooter Privilege Patches, I don't think we'll be going back to quad shooter anytime soon

@@PerfectDarkly It was a mixture between Armor and Missile, literally the best weapons to farm the best specials were shooters and in top of that, the best specials fucked every other weapon except for shooters (kinda) so yeah pretty much

I think it’s hard to balance because people learn to counter new specials or weapons over time which makes it hard to determine if something is too good.

I definitely believe that the extent of the meta isn't intentional. I think that they have specific places they want certain weapons to be at, like, they have a specific place they want splash to be at, a place they want dualie squelchers in, the same for slosher, and a handful of other weapons, top, high, and lower tiers all. But I think weapons that they don't have specific plans for either are in relatively high spots because of sheer luck (Ballpoint, squeezer, annaki nova, sorella tent) relation to other weapons (nautilus and the heavies are the prime example of this), or are just in pretty bad spots because the devs don't have a plan and so just neglect them (like pretty much all brellas except sorella tent which I still think just got lucky

​@@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868 I do believe most of what's happened IS intentional from their side, yes, a lot of buffs have been really strange and obnoxious but the splatoon community as a whole is really quick to judge, i think they know what they're doing, we are only presented a small view of what they are doing as we don't see the bigger picture that they have. And about the neglected weapons, they will be just fine, many people have been complaining about brellas not getting any sort of fix with almost a year into the game but exactly the reason they haven't done anything to them is what makes me believe they do have plans ahead and we just aren't able to see that since we are not given the complete vision of what they want, we are only presented to those ideas as monthly patches, the reason being that makes me believe that is if they really didn't know what they were doing they would see a forgotten weak weapon class and immediately buff it and force it into the meta, when that on a grounded level seems fine to all, it really isn't since you don't take into consideration the sate of the games and the rest of the other weapons and just want to force in what seems weak or nerf what seems to strong and with either of those paths we end in splat 1 or 2's meta, and i say that about brellas mainly because i have been an under main since s2 and am really familiar with all brellas and i dare to say with certainty they REALLY are some buffs away from becoming a really unstoppable force in the game, since the mechanic they provide is really not founded anywhere else but the brellas, therefore they are in such a really weird spot in consideration of all the weapons in the game and state they produce in the meta, mainly because they have really few counters(blasters and sloshers really dont counter it except from maybe both rapids) non of them powerful enough to stop a fixed and buffed brella of any class, they REALLLY have such a weird state in this game and people don't seem to understand that if you just buffed them as people want, it will make of a really weird weapon brute force itself in this meta that is slowly building itself and that is really no good news. Now with splatoon 3 they introduced and actual efficient counter to brellas being splatanas, it seems a lot more likely for brellas to not be the unstoppable force they would be in a chaotic meta if they were to be given the right buffs and fixes, and that goes with a lot of other things like sub weapons, they aren't just pushing everything down your throat to force it to join in in the meta by making it strong and buffing 10 different aspects of the game at once, they are instead focusing on certain predominant groups of things and slowly building towards what we already have, making adjustments here and there, tweaking weapons there and here and this and that, so it really makes me feel at ease the fact that brellas are in my belief NOT forgotten but instead just waiting their turn to be adjusted when all the other things have already been finished just to have some place in what would be the meta some time from now, and i am sure to say they will not be just any group of solid weapons, they will be a real potency of the game that will feel different to what we have been introduced already and that for the time we are is really little, that with brellas as well as many other things in this game that seem like they are just resting unfixed in the shadow, they are just waiting their turn to shine and put more things to the meta that has had been building over time, just like splatanas, pencil ink back inkjet and who know how many other things are yet to come given the time they need, they are just waiting for their turn slowly adjusting this games meta so when a strong weapon seems like its in a good state, NOW they can introduce the next batch they will focus on and surprise us with, and that is not counting the lots of missing kits that are left to be added, i am really watching this game with hopeful eyes sine the first months of this game as things i believe are slowly presenting themselves as a reality, mainly inkjet being what it is right now, how i saw that special with potential and desire for it to be good in the first months, i go away and it completely transforms into what i believed it could be, i really do regret not being able to play this game right now, but i am certain from what we have been experiencing it only is getting better from here on, who know what might be next, and i love that.

@@noahthecrazy1632yeah but that doesnt mean taking away flanks from maps was the right choice, we were kinda starting to see that trend / pattern in S2 and it wasnt good in the first place so why did they suddenly think it was a good idea now? (Especially when the beta maps were so cool 😭) Whats the point of having such a cool and fun gimmick like being able to swim in ink but not being able to use it because every wall is uninkable? Also trust me balancing isnt this or that hard, and its especially even EASIER for the devs because they have access to data that we dont along with tourney sets and everything, they really have no excuses, dont get me wrong the balance IS definitely improving, but way too little and way too slowly, youd think they wouldve fixed the maps by now after 5 seasons but they still havent…, and lastly if dota 2 a much more complex and vaster game to balance than splatoon CAN and actually IS balanced then i fail to see why splatoon cannot be. They need to fix: maps which ive already said, and sub-weapons / specials which are mostly most of the reasons holding back the kits / main weapons from being good, obviously theres some main weps that also need buffs (like goo tuber and rollers and brellas… [especially brellas thx to the garbage netcode]) but its mostly the horrible sub-weapon and special-weapon balance holding the kits back along with the maps obviously lol.

Brellas have already been fixed, now they just need buffs. The problem isn't that they're broken anymore, just weak. Also, sTent has just proven that the main weapon might be better than we're giving brellas credit for, maybe it's just the kits

Its just because tacticooler wasnt very good back then. In the same buff that make inkjet OP, they also increased tacticooler's base duration and special power up gear curve, to a point that certain weapons (n-zap), can charge their next special before the effects of the first cooler ran out. Without this buff, it wasnt very reliable against any specials.
