Basically.. Making a Sentence.. for me is not so easy.. Because it is (somewhat) different from German... sometimes... But for Speakers of other Romance Languages that should be not that much of a Problem I guess... So what is difficult about learning French, also depends on the Language(s) You are alllreaddy know, I guess..

I think if your mother tongue is already a Romance language, French isn't hard. It still requires work, especially with orthography and pronunciation, but the shared cognates, rules of grammar like verb conjugations, feminine vs. masculine nouns and adjectives, concept of subjunctive, usage of Latin script, etc., aren't foreign concepts to learn at all.

@@tonylanguagehd1050 As an English native I feel like French surprisingly easy due to the massive amount of french vocab we have. I'm still a beginner but atm I've found french much easier to learn than German. The hardest part is the pronunciation, whereas I found German pronunciation very easy to pick up. I've been learning for 22 days (every day) and I can understand maybe 30% of this video due to the silly amount of cognates. I can't produce the things I understand in the vid, but I comprehend it when hearing it + the french subtitles. Such a cool language.

True, but in my experience the French aren't always very cooperative about this. Some act like they no longer understand your sentence because you chose the wrong tense or used the infinitive of a verb instead of conjugating it. But of course not everyone is like that.

I'm still early days in my French learning, but I haven't found too many things difficult. However, I also have a background in English Linquistics and a natural curiosity about words, languages, and how they work. While English is a Germanic language, history has given English a lot of French and Latin and so... I think that's why I've found it easy thus far. And I used to pretend to be a French noblewoman at Renaissance Faires.... so maybe that's all helped? lol

Oui, le français c'est difficile parce que, pour moi, j'utilise une appli de langue étrangère et j'écoute beaucoup de vidéos sur KZfaq pour apprendre la langue. Et tout le monde parle clairement et assez lentement pour que je puisse comprendre. Cependant quand je regarde une série ou écoute les personnes dans la rue (comme Easy French), tout parle très vite, parfois marmonne leurs mots, et utilise beaucoup d'argot que je ne connais pas.

As a Brit, for me the hardest thing about learning French was without doubt the pronunciation and getting to grips with all the silent letters on the written page and when and how they should or should not be pronounced. I also speak Spanish and Italian fluently and without question in terms of pronunciation these 2 are much easier as it’s literally a case of “say what you see” when you read the languages. However, while they _did_ tell me that pronouncing Italian/Spanish would be much easier than pronouncing French, the thing they _didn’t_ tell me was the much more extensive use of the dreaded subjunctive in Spanish/Italian when compared to French. In French it took me a long time to get my head around the 2 main subjunctive tenses used in conversation (particularly as a native English speaker, where the use of the subjunctive has more or less become extinct), but that was nothing compared to the time it took me to get my head around the far more prevalent use of the subjunctive in Spanish/Italian. Ultimately, how difficult/easy _any_ foreign language is (leaving aside the usual school/college/university book slog) depends on how young you were introduced to it and how much you were exposed to it at a young age. The younger the better. If you were born to a native English-speaking mother and a native French/Italian/Spanish (delete as applicable) father and the non-English father spoke to you mostly in the non-English language, just as much as the mother spoke to you in English, then these languages wouldn’t be difficult at all! That goes for _any_ learning of a second/third/etc. language: the key is early exposure to it through simple conversation. No grammar books necessary! One thing that always amazes me is that there are people who bring up children in a bilingual household yet, for whatever reason, they don’t bring up their children as bilinguals! 🤷‍♂️ Surely being in a bilingual couple is _the_ ideal opportunity to bring your children up speaking 2 languages fluently.
@Ivenyyy
@Ivenyyy 5 ай бұрын
No grammar books necessary ? It think that depends on what level you would like to achieve. If your goal is to only communicate using simple, or even sometimes wrong, sentences like children do, then yes exposure is more than enough. If you want to achieve C1 or C2 level then grammar books are necessary ! I would even add that it's mandatory. I mean even native speakers spend years in school learning their language and in most cases you can actually see the difference between someone who graduated highschool and someone who didn't. The vocabulary is richer and they make way less grammar ans syntax mistakes.

@Ivenyyy 5 ай бұрын
@@titteryenot4524 You didn't even answer my question. You said that you didn't have to learn grammar in order to speak English fluently. But yes you did, during the many years you've spent in school. You may not remember it since it was so long ago but you DID learn grammar through textbooks and doing all sort of exercises. Ta-da 😂 The grammar in English isn't that complicated so probably it wasn't as intense as it is in countries where it can get crazy hard like France and Spain. In France, the first years of elementary school all we do is grammar because that shit ain't gonna magically make its way to your brain. 😂 As for the "loads of people" you're aware of, well that is your personal biased experience but it doesn't represent reality. People who didn't graduate highschool have lower language skills, that is a fact. Of course there are exceptions but that's what they are, exceptions. And I'm not confusing anything, you're the one who first talked about C1-C2 level which are levels from the CEFR (common European framework of reference for languages) which evaluates ALL FOUR skills : reading, writing, oral comprehension and expression. You cannot be C1 or C2 unless you validate all four so I don't understand what you said about me being confused. Of course speaking a language and reading it are two different things, that's no the point. To pass the test you have to be able to do both. (+ writing and understanding)

I find it is extremely hard to lern french as it is far different from my mother tongue Korean. But I've been learning English for about 10 years, and it helps me understand french for it is pretty similar to english when it comes to grammar, spelling of words etc. it appears that french and english share almost the same logic of language. For me as a Korean, it is easier to learn Japanese or Chinese than it is for those from european countries.

For me the most difficult thing is the grammar, memorising all the rules and implementing them. As to the pronunciation, I pick it up quite well, but what really helps is the guide/explanation on how to position your mouth, tongue, etc, in order to pronounce the sounds (you can find it in various textbooks or online). Do it many many times and voila, it sounds good!

I am a Native English speaker, and I am learning French via Duolingo. The gender rules get confusing, and the verbs are confusing. The hardest thing is I have no one to communicate in French with. I'm gonna try that Spotify option the lady gave.

Bonjour, Pour apprendre la conjugaison correctement, je peux vous conseiller un livre : Le Bescherelle. Tous les écoliers français possèdent ce livre pour apprendre à conjuguer les verbes.

En début c'était aussi beaucoup compliqué pour moi de compter les numéros en français, mais maintenant je trouve ça très logique 4x20 = 80, 4x20+10=90

Native speaker here. The girl speaking about her friend from China learning French had me scrambling for the subtitles. I couldn't believe she had referred to her as "une jaune (a yellow one)", when in fact she said "Yijun" but pronounced in a very French way. :)

I would say yes and no... It _is_ difficult _to speak_ it but it is actually _not_ so hard to understand French at least not _on a basic Level_ (at least not to me)... :D But to understand _higher Levels_ of the Language is hard again, I would say.. But to actually speak (and write in correct) French is very hard.... :D (I guess)

I appreciate the clarification. Here's the revised version: Je suis Azerbaïdjanais.
