very true point, i believe everyone should aim for perfection in their work but expecting it is somethin only fools do. just do the best you can and improve a little each time, never will be perfect every time but can definitely make it look perfect even if it isnt

I drive myself nutty trying to get stuff perfect. Seem right when I get towards the end of a project, something always happens. Never ever perfect.....

You've got me laughing...I think the phrase is "perfectly imperfect". Commiseration here is grande, because nothing can make you feel like a failure faster than making jewelry. It's nice to know others feel the same way. I just had a brainstorm (for what that's worth). After you've marked your claw placement, and started with your saw, if the danged burr wants to skitter off one way, if possible, do a little, then turn the work around so it draws in the other direction. Maybe it will help to stay more centered on your saw mark. Just a thought. I'm gonna give it a go on my next setting and see if it works.
