I was early 20s when he was in his heyday and whenever one of his videos was released, it was on all of the major networks in the evening and we would all tune into it. His pelvic thrusts was just part of his movements and we didn't think too much about it. Now, there was one video that got some pushback of when he seemed to be grabbing his crotch a lot and I think that was the "Black or White" video, the long version nearer to the end after he's turned from a black panther into himself and then has all these dance moves. But, really, his talent is unmatched and he left us with so much..

😂 great reaction, guys, yes! I was a teenager at this time, and im glad you asked. There was no sliding into someone's DM's, no profile with filters. We had to do things differently to stand out from our mates. This is what we did. we hung out in groups at night. We danced in private in our bedroom cos we were too shy to do it in front of anyone, you was specially mocked doing michael jackson imitation dancing 😅 So yeah, we had to stand out . 😅 as you can see she is smiling most of the time, cos this wouldnt be the first time knowing each other. Its just context your missing from a time you don't know which is fine and perfectly understandable.

I learned this about his Thriller video, and it looks like they used a similar technique here. Michael was kind of known for walking/dancing off screen during walking scenes. So the video director made the "girl" walk to the beat of the song, and MJ only had to stay within 6 feet of her, but was otherwise free to do whatever. Watch again, especially around 2:23 onward. She's walking to the beat, MJ is dancing around her.

U can tell Micheal was into color schemes and silent sounds. He was very artsy. My favorite Michael songs are 1. Smooth criminal (movie version, not short version) 2. Dirty Diana (very 80s rock) 3. Leave me alone (about the press/ paparazzi) 4. Speed demon (movie version)

4:26 it’s not Michael paying attention to the snares and other instruments. It’s the musicians paying attention to Michael and hitting that beat when he made a movement. Watch the video “This is It” where they show the behind the scenes of him prepping for his last concert he was going to do. When I first saw his videos in the 80s I thought it was so cool how well he moved to the beat. His timing was impeccable. 6:33 Tatiana Thumbtzen she and Michael used to date. She said they broke up and she got fired by his manager after she kissed MJ on stage that wasn’t planned.

I can't believe y'all have picked a favorite.. it's hard to pick a fav of MJ.. but mine would probably be Man in the Mirror. The message was so amazing. I grew up in the 80's but I was more in to my Hair Bands.. still loved Michael.. I'm not tone deaf and I think MJ and EP are the GOATS of music. my opinion.. btw EP is Elvis Presley. lol Elvis could sing any genre of music .. incredibly, but Michael wrote, sang and choreographed his music.. such talent. And nobody moved liked Michael.. Elvis got banned from TV for moving his hips in the 50's.. they'd a locked Michael up back then.. lol.

Such a great song & video. The BAD album was amazing but because THRILLER was so massive it was viewed as not as good. But this album had a ton of hits, including this, "Bad", "Another Part of Me", "Man in the Mirror", "Dirty Diana", "Liberian Girl", "Leave Me Alone" and of course "Smooth Criminal". The album is bad ass! MJ always did similar moves even in the Jacksons. He advanced a lot of his dance style over the years, incorporating break dance etc. Tatiana is the girl in the video. She is a model. LaToya Jackson also makes an appearance in the video. Dance moves like that will get anyone laid. Check out MJ live doing this song along with "Man in the Mirror" on the Grammy's in 1988. Amazing vocals and dancing.
