I understand the other side of the aisle that don’t like this product. The other side that don’t like the product because they want what they want and don’t like the fact that this wasn’t a standalone system to compete with Steam Deck, switch, etc. Let’s not forget that Sony was the leader in handheld console innovations from the PSP- PS vita era. Yet most of the market allowed for the vita to fail by not buying into what Sony was doing at the time. I think it’s fair and logical for Sony not to go all out again considering the PS vita was a great idea but had very bad ROI for them. Plus the hacking and modding of their PS vita is another reason why they are staying away from full tablet features for the PS Portal. This doesn’t scream “evil corporation” to me. It states, “test the waters and see if we get a good ROI from the market with this prototype, and if successful we can go all in on a true next gen handheld to compete with the current competitors. For now I will buy. Not only because I’m the target demographic for this product (husband and father that doesn’t always get the TV), but also because I want to support Sony’s future plans for this product (hopefully PS premiums streaming), and also a potential successor to this prototype that would include all the features everyone on the other side are demanding (PS4-PS5 on the go, no Wi-Fi required, internal storage, more app accessibility). Many user have laggs and issue and this doesn't have anything with internet speed. This is since your router sucks. You need to buy some premium router or port forward on your router. Sony should put some manual how this should work, since many user have the same problem.

I have a question if you can help. If you don’t have a tv to plug the ps5 in, can you use this portal to navigate the ps5 after I plug it in the power source. To be more clear, can I plug the ps5 in a power outlet and just use the portal as my display and use my WiFi

Nice review, I agree this thing is a waste of money. Theres so much other stuff you can buy for $200. Even as a PS5 die hard it’s pointless. Most people have a tablet and you can connect a dualsense to it.

i just can not believe they didn't release it as a Stand alone PSP, and let it be open for homebrew like Snes emulators ect.. it would have been the most awesome hand held ever made, it would have been delicious. but they had to mess it up. they must know that it's completely useless and no one will buy it. what a waste. So a backbone for 100 bucks and a phone more expensive with a smaller screen is better than a 8inch screen with included joypad (portal) Naha people just lies here. If Sony had made a psp2 with PS5 capabilities for 700 bucks people would cry because it's to much money. This device is so good for just 200 bucks so people can still play PS5 wile sharing there tv or want to chill game in bed.

What I do is if your TV's a smart tv. You can Bluetooth your headphones directly to your TV. Without having to use your portal sound at all. Which is much easier than having to worry about this round. But that's only if you're at your house but you're out somewhere. There is a headphone jack in the back

Ppl keep forgetting its a PS5 accessory a day they never said anything else. For what it is the price is fair shxt the PS5 pro controller is $200. Ppl are just mad because they want a Vita 2 but it's safe to say Sony not going g down that money pit again. I've had it and have been playing g at home and work and the experience is better then with a phone or tablet so for me that's a win.

It's a cool device but if u don't have young kid's then you probably won't see a need for one....

For the ones saying what’s the point, I have an iPhone or iPad and can remote play there…I was doing the same thing on my 2018 iPad Pro and sometimes via my iPhone. I got the portal on Wednesday and played it on my downtime at work (decent WiFi available there) and it was definitely a smoother experience! Now I often play laying on my couch or in bed and it runs like butter with no hiccups or problems. Is this for everyone?? Definitely not but personally I don’t see the amount of hate it’s getting, if it’s not for you then move it along. Also not fan boying this I do find it frustrating they didn’t add Bluetooth capabilities but hey it’s gen 1 and testing out the waters let’s see what this evolves to cause believe me there definitely is the potential to grow for this thing.

have you ever used the ps vita ? i guess not you must off moved during the ps4 era the vita when hacked you can use blue tooth natively without hacking that it but when hacked you can install plugins too use wireless controllers and many non compatible blue tooth headphones or speakers i give the portal a 3out of 10 and the vita a 10 out of 10

Why do people want devs to waste there resources on handheld games? there were VERY few psp/vita games that were actually good. Also people underestimate how much the controller/screen brings to the table. I want to feel comfy playing my games..not hands cramping etc. I think the only fuckup was bluetooth.

After playing ps portal since launch, I think its pretty good. It does what it is designed to do really well but I think £150 would have been a better pricepoint due to the modest feature set.

You can use your headphones that you already use to on the console. The caveat, you can only use them in the same house that the PS5 is in. All I keep hearing is... It's $200 dollars..That aint shit. People have pairs of sneakers that cost more than that just sitting in a box that are hardly worn.

If you are considering a purchase a PS Portal, I recommend giving Ayn Odin 2 careful thought before making a decision. Odin 2 offers significantly more features and performs much better than the PS Portal.

It’s a great device for $200 that gets adults what they want out of a portable device. We’re not running around in public playing video games that often or ever. If you want to do that, there’s the switch. Keep it simple for portable stuff, keep the advanced gaming stuff at home.
