Wow! That was a rock "n" roll crossing to the Bahamas! Your Range 25 handled those waves nicely. Glad y'all caught something to make Shashimi...y'all enjoyed that. Those were some beautiful places that you visited and look forward to more places that you're going to be visiting.

nice trip , just a question. you try to save fuel goin that slow? you could go a little faster at least 3500 rpm and will eliminate some of the rocking movement.
@expeditionseanest
@expeditionseanest 4 ай бұрын
I think you may be confusing our boat with a much bigger vessel. At 3500 rpm we would have been beaten badly, spray would have made visibility poor and at that speed out fuel milage would have gone from 2.4 mpg to .9 at its best. Meaning our 95 mile passage would not be possible with a 99 gallon fuel tank.

If the gulf stream current is great for getting to Bimini in a day what is plan for returning to Florida agaist thec current? Sail northwest and then hug the coast southward?

I would add a fishing net and hook remover. You are going to stick hooks in your hands the way you do it, not ideal in many circumstances. Boat looks great, friends had a smaller Ranger and liked it as well
@expeditionseanest
@expeditionseanest 10 ай бұрын
Reg yes, safety is important! Especially in the middle of nowhere! We don’t use nets for tropical saltwater fish. They are too powerful and will tear a hole in your net. You just have to learn where to put your hands . Michael has worked on deep sea fishing boats and is actually a professional fishing guide. If the fish is big enough the gaf works great. Lots of experience but accidents can happen to anyone! Thank you for your comment and concern.

He is obviously competent. But you are in a risk/reward situation, especially as you travel further from hospitals, etc. We have a remote cottage in Georgian Bay, have seen everything, am much more aware of managing potential harm. Not using a net just adds unnecessary risk, IMHO. We put together a trauma kit because of that (quickclot, Israeili bandages, tourniquet,SAM splint, suture bandages) that I strongly recommend you consider too. @@expeditionseanest

What was your average speed for the crossing?
@expeditionseanest
@expeditionseanest 3 ай бұрын
You must consider the sea state to answer this question. We were quartering into waves that were roughly 3-4 feet . Our speed without current was 6 knots. With current 8 knots.

So do sharks ever follow you in the boat, waiting for a person to fall into the water, ready to eat you alive? Also, what about the pirates? Have they ever tried to kill you?
@expeditionseanest
@expeditionseanest 2 ай бұрын
We do have sharks that are curious but we have never been attacked. There are no pirates in the Bahamas that we are aware of.But we are careful in Miami and Nassau as crime is much worse there.

Dude, you need a spot light or a light bar instead of a human on the bow!
@expeditionseanest
@expeditionseanest 3 ай бұрын
Phill , you are so right. The spot light we had was good but the crab trap markers were hard to see except from the bow. Erik was only up there for a short time and was wearing a harness but if we were to do it again we would not leave a place like this in the dark.
