I’ve used the ready prepared freeze dried meals, that you pour the water in. Glad this video didn’t say it was toxic! Breakfast sounds a good idea! Thank you for a completely new topic!

I make cream of wheat with milk and add flax meal and strawberry preserves then freeze dry that so all you have to do is add some hot water and you have a yummy creamy breakfast! I also make a delicious chicken enchilada soup that rehydrates perfectly! Again, all you need is hot water and you have an instant meal! Thanks for checking into the safety of using the bags, I've always wondered about that! Keep up the good work you two, we appreciate it! : )

I am getting old for hiking, but taking my freeze dried food cooled quickly afte the hot water. I took some foil insulation and made a large square, sealed on three sides with insulation tape and left a flap at the top. I would put my hot mylar bag in there and let it do it's thing. When not being used for the food it was good for a dry butt on the wet logs. BTW my freeze dried rice rehydrates quite quickly, usually quicker than the meat or veggies.

If you have the bags which don't have the stand-up bottoms you can put the bag into a pot or plastic jug to keep the bags from falling over. I have fastened the edges of the opening of the bag to the sides of the pot with those metal binder clips to hold it open - no using my hands near the boiling water when pouring it in.

I've got some with oatmeal mix, but the ones I'm happiest with are the little pasta (shorter cook time) from the Hispanic aisle, chicken bouillon, dehydrated onion, garlic, carrots and herbs. When you use the right amount of water it's like a pasta salad. If I make it again I'm going to leave the carrots out though because they are still crunchy. ❤️👍🇺🇲

Goodness, what a fantastic idea! Just what I was looking for. I would use instant rice with bullion and maybe separate chicken and dehydrated mirapoix for a soup. Thanks for this family sized MRE style emergency option!

Wallaby MRE mylar bag works well for us. We test rehydrating some chili and it was wonderful. The opening is along the longer side of the bag which makes it easy to eat or serve out of if you are sharing. Hot water added directly in the bag.

Did Andrew Tice have any information on plastics leaching chemicals when exposed to heat?

Home boiling water temperature is different than hotel. kitchen, restaurant & eateries. Pour out the whole packet into a vacuum reheating glass or stainless steel instead of the mylar. It is still plastic.

Please excuse my ignorance, but if I already have a pot of boiling water, why wouldn't I go ahead and add the food directly to the pot to cook? In what instances would it be beneficial to pour the water into the mylar bag? Great to know that it is safe to do so!Thanks!

Saves space, dishes, and fast cooking for backpacking or camping. Also in an emergency not as many dishes and you can eat right out of the bag.
@TheProvidentPrepper
@TheProvidentPrepper Ай бұрын
Absolutely! This is only if you need to use the bags. You can boil water in a small container/tea pot and add it directly. Great point!
@organizedchaoslife
@organizedchaoslife Ай бұрын
@@janmyers2902 Ah, ok. I can see how that would be helpful when camping/backpacking. And thinking it through, yes, in a power outage situation if you could reserve your pit just for heating the water, then less water would be used in cleanup if you pour water into mylar bags. It's making more sense now. Thank you!

Is there a rule for how much boiling water to put into the bag based on how much food is in there?
@TheProvidentPrepper
@TheProvidentPrepper Ай бұрын
It all depends on the food. Some will take more water than others like soup compared to the rotisserie chicken.

I love your channel, but going to the "expert" who is trying to sell you his product is a terrible idea. It's like asking a pharmaceutical company, "Is this drug / vaccine safe for me?" Bottom line is that all plastic (including the mylar lining) leaches chemicals over time, and heat drastically increases the rate at which plastic leaches. I will never pour boiling water into mylar bags if at all possible.
