I just spent 13months in Mexico.....Now in SoCal....I can honestly say Mexico just FEELS safer to me. I feel more relaxed & less like something silly may happen. Mind you, I am Hispanic & not an "avg tourist" looking guy. I also walked 100s of miles & did not see one incident. My experience. Cheers

I believed the US propaganda for most of my life (I’m 49) until taking a trip to PV three years ago. Couldn’t believe how beautiful Mexico was and how dumb I felt buying into the lies. There’s crime everywhere and you just need to be smart. Fast forward, I’ve been to Bucerias/PV five times in the past two years and can’t wait to return. Now I spend my days correcting my friends who say I’m crazy for always vacationing in such a dangerous area to which I reply, look where we live…..next to Portland, OR.

While I have not been to Mexico, I will agree that Americans will excuse the mass shootings, the obsession with guns, or the bombing of the Federal Building by a white American, or other crimes. For some reason, the ignoring seems to be their way of their continued and ignorance of "the USA is the best country in the world" And I bet they have never lived nor travelled to another country to see other cultures and a better quality of life. Brainwashed Americans.

Well said and informative. I’ve been to a few different beach areas in Mexico (PV, Bucerias, Huatulco) quite a few times over the past 20 years and have never felt unsafe. Using common sense, no matter where you are, goes along way when it comes to safety. I live in Saskatchewan Canada where, in 2021, the capital city of Regina had 70 murders, the highest homicide rate of all Canadian provinces at 5.93/100,000. Despite that, I’ve never heard of a travel warning for Saskatchewan!

Beautiful places with friendly people and great weather! I plan to move there and one of the best reasons as you mentioned in the video is to avoid the fallout of possible war coming into the US mainland either external or internal. And bonus on the MX healthcare system as well as cleaner food. Almost universally people report their food allergies disappear. Thanks for the video!

We live in the heart of the historical city center and not in a quiet suburb like we did in the US and we feel much safer here. The news is so deceiving about crime in Mexico. I'm from the US, living in Mexico for three years. I've never been victimized by ANY crime, nor have I been ripped off because I'm a "Gringo." I've never been approached by a drug dealer. I've never been made to feel unwelcome in this beautiful country. If you live along the border or the cartel corridor, it's different. I feel a lot safer here than I would in Chicago, St. Louis, Baltimore, or Memphis! I don't live in a gated community, I live among the locals. The people are gracious and friendly, and the culture is amazing. It's certainly the best move I've ever made!

I just visited Baja California for the first time and was very nervous due to the things I heard in the news and especially after what happened to those surfers. The worst thing that happened to me was getting ripped off by a taxi driver in Tijuana. I accepted it because I got back from Ensenada a little later than expected and didn't want to walk around at night. The people in Tijuana were friendly, the people in Ensenada were REALLY friendly, and I walked all over Tecate with no trouble from anyone. Also had a Baja dog stuff himself through a gate to chase me but turns out he only wanted the fries I had. I was in no physical danger at any point nor was I violently mugged, threatened, etc.

Bravo! Excellent research. Very informative. Of course, there are dangerous cities that I will never visit in Mexico, in the US or elsewhere for that matter. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Our son lives in Mississauga (Toronto) Canada and every time we visit there are daily criminal attacks including deadly shootings and stabbings. This doesn't stop us from visiting our son whenever possible. We are are naturally vigilant, remain aware of our surroundings and use of common sense when moving about. With regards to Mexico, we walk in many residential neighbourhoods when we feel that it's safe to do so. However, we prefer to be back in our apartment before it gets too late at night and we avoid shady neighbourhoods. We rarely walk the streets after tienda closing times (10 pm) and live like the locals when it's dark. For example, we stick to well lit streets with people moving about.

I’m looking to move to South America at some point. It’s relatively safe in most places. Keeping your wits and not acting a fool will generally keep you out of trouble. I also think that learning the language helps gain some respect from the local community. I’m learning Spanish on my own as a third language. Just that effort of trying to communicate with them in their language can go a long way.

I live in the state if Colima Mexico, recently found to be the least safe state in Mexico. Look, just dont do drugs, dont hang around with cartel members and stay away from the known areas they frequent. We feel very safe here. Due to the cartel element it is very easy to avoid being a victim. Whereas crime in the USA seems totally random. You can be shot in school, in a grocery store and in a parade in the USA. That randomness is not an issue here. For the average non-cartel m we mber Mexico is more safe than the USA.

People watch too many stereotypical movies and shows about crime in Mexico which can be true to reality but people should know they’re only telling stories to attract an audience which is why we always see the bad side of the country and not the upside.

Great video. What Americans ignore is the fact that all the cartels have hubs in the US, "warehouses" even in Montana. Atlanta has Sinola and is the third largest warehouse for the entire US. No one seems to be aware that these cartels are right next to you but hey- Mexico is unsafe! The cartels are in the US because there is a market awaiting them: drug addiction and they get their supply of weapons. Mexico doesn't supply them with weapons- the US does. Americans and their rationalization of their own crime is laughable. And ignore mass shootings that are an everyday occurrence: Due to gun violence in 2023: 40,000 people! And not all due to cartels. Go figure the ignorance and "America is so great".

For sure. The drugs, guns, slave trade, is very profitable for the politicians on both sides.

@@MovingToMexiCo Agree. And the fact that our healthcare will never be resolved because the big "pharms" lobby to our politicians. Guess they don't want to give up their "bonuses". I worked for a huge pharmaceutical conglomerate and I can attest to the lobbying.

The answer to the question is - No it's not. Panama is a much more safe, much more democratic and stable country, and uses the US dollar as its currency. Its a modern country with progressive ideas and a joy to visit and even retire there for thousands of American expats.
