Shade cloth over the top will lower the heat.

Shade cloth is not enough. In my area the high desert of california it reaches 120f. I need shade cloth, ventilation, and greenhouse misters.

Thank you for the info. I’m gearing up to build my own greenhouse and wasn’t sure about the heat of summertime growing inside of it. This will help me incorporate more and bigger fans and vents to help with it. I may even have to use some sort of evaporative coolers too but will have to do more research. Every year my garden is raided by wildlife so this is why I’m wanting to move some of the crops indoors to help protect against that. Deer, raccoons, and rabbits are plentiful here and they live my tasty garden.

I just finished designing and building my own one. It depends on the sun and ambient temperature but it does get hot quick. I use some large 16 inch radiator fans, along with smaller fans inside to move air. All powered by solar, internal movement fans on all the time, vent fans turn on if the temp gets more than 95 degrees

@@JasonEngman thanks for the info. I was hoping the fans would be enough because if I have to do roll up sides it defeats the purpose of the greenhouse for me. I’ll just have to have double the recommended fans that’s for sure.

I’m only going to use the greenhouse in the shoulder seasons and using shade cloth which comes in different sizes and percentages of shade. I also go in and spray water inside on the walls to quickly drop the temperature on super hot days. I would probably have an easier time if there were ceiling vents, it only has a door and a window opposite. Will use a fan this year also. Growth and germination shut down if the temps are in the 90’s F or above. When all works well the greenhouse is a real blessing.

Tarp over top of greenhouse to reduce heat. Self watering system in your grow tubs. Will make some difference.

Thanks for the very helpful videos. I'm in the process of assembling my Planta Sigma and seeing ow you did it helps. One thing you might like to hear is that mine has some hooks to keep the doors and windows open, so it seems they did listen to you. I intend to install a thermostat-controlled fan and I also ordered 2 roof vents.

You did such a good job explaining, I really appreciate it. We have an interesting set-up being high desert heat of 110+ degrees in summer. We're using a steel mesh grid with 1/2" openings over all of it to keep out varmints, I.e', squirrels, kangaroo rats, ground squirrels (chipmunks), bunny's, and the large moths that bring in the huge, AND disgusting, ginormous green dinosaur tomato worms with horns, but not too big to keep out the bees, then we're using 40% shade mesh over roof and sun sides and sheets of plastic on the high wind side. Floor also meshed even though all my plants will be in large pots and buckets, I have had gophers eat through the plastic pots to get to my agave's and eat the plant to intoxication. Your temperature guidance really clued me in on the importance of good temperatures in a greenhouse. I have also subscribed. Thank you, pretty lady.

Such an informative video! Thank you for taking the time to give us the ins and outs of your greenhouse, and for answering my question. When I am finally able to get a greenhouse of my own I will definitely use your greenhouse videos as a point of reference. Looking forward to your next upload.

We built a greenhouse with roll up sides. The primary function was to stop the yearly hail from destroying my harvest. In my zone 3 the shoulder season wasn’t being utilized but now we got a very early harvest of spinach and snow peas. I think a shade cloth overtop would really help you in your situation if you wanted to grow in it.

Hinge that window on the top so it is an awning then use 2 drop shelf brackets to hold it. Or center mark that window on the verticals drill it out and screw it in place on that center axsis so it louvers.

Bon jardinage!

I viewed your construction cost video, you mentioned of intending to install roof vents, though the greenhouse company does not supply these as an option? ... if not, that's a bit unusual! I had a sliding door on my Halls greenhouse and two automatic roof vents and no problem with overheating. I've been looking at some models and noticing many have a superior bracing structure, thus helping to better withstand the occasional super nasty wind event, I'm sure though yours is plenty strong enough, what make is it? You have a lovely very pleasant easy to watch nature about you. As an avid gardener myself, I look forward to following along with your gardening adventures! :)

You could create a latch but putting a moveable hook on the outside and a latch on the outside of the door! Or wedge something in the henges of the door so it can’t move or close!

Sounds like you’re almost guessing along the way. Easy solution for the flapping. Window or door. Get you a latch in the other side of the door when you swing it completely open and latch it on the other side. Put something in front of the door so that it stops the door from moving is another way. How about throwing some UV protecting tarps over the top and roping them down so that the sun isn’t beating on the greenhouse as much. Maybe install some gutters on the side of the greenhouse and have barrels to collect the water and make a drip system on a timer so that your plants are constantly getting watered so you wouldn’t have the dried shrub problem. So many things I could do with that green house to make it function durning heat months.

My greenhouse was up to 130° a few days last year. I was able to bring it down within 70-80, but I didn't like the bill, so I just don't use it in the summer lol

FANTASTIC VIDEO! THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR GREENHOUSE AND YOUR EXPERIENCE SO FAR! IDEA FOR YOUR "WINDOWS?" TO KEEP THEM OPEN . . . MAYBE GET A FEW WOODWORKING CLAMPS--THE SIMPLE ONES THAT YOU "SQUEEZE" TO OPEN AND THEY BASICALLY PINCH SOMETHING . . . Maybe start with 2 on one window to try to make sure they do not damage the greenhouse in ANY WAY? We are just getting started and puchased a small greenhouse made from aluminum with the corrugated plastic windows and we are SHOCKED by how HOT it gets in there. We are currently growing hydroponically; but, the heat is a HUGE CHALLENGE. We weren't expecting it; maybe because we are TOTALLY NEW TO GROWING? We also live in Central Valley California where they grow all kinds of things to feed millions . . . So, we didn't imagine this was a concern? We are s l o w l y figuring it out little by little. I watch a LOT of KZfaq Video's for information, knowledge and inspiration! THANKS SO MUCH . . . I LOVE that we can share from ALL OVER THE WORLD!
