I bought 100 foil bags from eBay for about £10. I make a home made curry and put some in the bag, then use a cool iron to seal it. I'm basically getting a really nice curry that I can reheat when camping - or eat cold if I absolutely had to - for about £1 a meal.

Short answer, no. Long answer, no, absolutely not. A lot of these meals are aimed at the sort of people who pay £20 more for the 'tactical' version of whatever gear they buy, and the makers can see them coming a mile away, despite thier torch being painted black. It has no great calorific or weight advantage over similar meals that are less than half the price, but its what the pro's use so they have to have it.

Here in Scandinavia the Real Turmat is a bit cheaper, about £8.50, which is't cheap but not too expensive. I highly gotta recommend the brand "Blå Band", their dehydrated food is great - their "Wilderness stew" is one of my all-time favourites.

Well done for saving dozens of other people from wasting £15. I'd hate to think what it would do to my IBS. Normally I watch your cooking in your videos late in the evening and go to sleep starving because the food looks so good but I don't feel hungry tonight after seeing that stuff. I'll wait for my slimline bit of bacon, sausage, eggs, mushroons, beans, tomatoes and toast in the morning.

We pay the equivalent of about 6 pounds here in NZ. I always put more water into the packet and give it longer than it says on the packet. The brand here is called "Back Country Cuisine" I really enjoy them. I have food dumps all through the mountains and use them for extended trips and emergencies. The dehydrated foods last for some time and I can have up to 6 packets in the food dumps. I was once stranded in the forest for 5 days due to a terrific storm; I lived on the dehydrated food supplemented with tin food (I was near one of my food dumps) and was glad to have had it. I really think that they are overpriced and the only reason that I get them is because they are more convenient than tin food and lighter. Tin food in a food dump will "blow" after a few years. ATB Cheers From the mountains of NZ 😀😀

I would normally have a 24hour British army ration pack but you just can not get them at the moment. 9 times out ten I prepare food in advance and heat them through in a jet boil or pan. On Raynet events i go for the steak and all the trimmings done camping gas burner. Thanks for the Video as always

Be careful, this meal is not a dehydrated one but freeze dried. It’s a different process completely, retaining all vits/minerals and longer lasting and because of this is better for you. It cost more because the process takes much longer, up to 24+hr and the end product is top class. As always you pays your money and takes your choice. Like cars, all cars do the same thing but you can pay for a Ford Ka or a Roller😂😂

Having said that, I will still buy a spare to test somewhere I can go get Maccas so I am not eating something I don't like with no alternative. No, you can't taste it for us, or tell us whether we will think it's worth the money, but your opinion is still worthwhile, thanks for letting us know if we even want to try! Dan a quick tip, 370ml of boiling water is approx 370g in weight (unless you want to be really precise, different calc for temp & purity of water ;) ) so as you are at home just put the packet on the scales, zero them and weigh the water. See how it compares to the markings on the packet. Cheers

It’s a tasty meal I have had a couple of them, however dehydrated meals in my eyes are only useful when space and weight are issues. For example I did a 5 day bikepacking trip in France a few weeks ago and took all the food I needed to get through the trip. I didn’t want to have to rely on shops being open, or on my route. Space is an issue on bikepacking trips or hiking, so they can be useful, but for everyday camping I really don’t know why people but these! Just have ordinary food. If you can have a fire embrace the best way to cook. I roasted a lamb joint the last time I had a fire.

You can pick them up cheaper than £15 plus you can buy bulk and save money. It's just preference, I want as little weight as possible so I go for Real Turmat, never felt any of them overpowered with pepper. I think the ready cooked pouches taste more like 'real food' than dehydrated ones but I just look at it as weight versus fuel... Like I said before, dehydrating your own means it's lightweight and you get EXACTLY what you want.

For that reason alone I stopped buying them. The drytech/real Turmat ration packs are excellent. Good snacks and probably the best isotonic drinks out. You make them up in their own pouch. The peach flavour is the dogs.. Very nice and does your muscles a favour after a long day up the hills.

Real is in my opinion the best producer of freeze dried camping food, by a good margin. I understand 15£ feels a bit steep in UK, here in Norway where they are produced they usually cost around £10. so add a few quid for shipping etc I understand the price. But again, things are more expensive over here, and importing expensive stuff will of course add to the price.

£15 is a lot of money for a dehydrated meal, no doubt. I guess you’ve got to look at what the manufacturer is providing for that premium price. These are about 7.50 GBP in Sweden with the current rates, they are made in Norway, my guess is you got screwed due to export cost increases caused by brexit. These are my go-to meals when going the distance as long as i've got water sources along the way, then these save weight and they taste really good for the price, especially compared to the "expedition food" brand and "Summit to shite". In any case, these "Real turmat" are not 15 GBP meals and i would not buy them at that price-point either. Thanks for the review!

Never mind McDonalds I can go to my local Greek restaurant or local curry house sit in and eat two courses for less than 15 quid and have a fresh, lovely hot meal sat down with a nice glass of red wine 🍷. Paying 15 quid to be hunched in a tent cold, eating what is essentially a McDonald's in a bag a convenience food. It's hardly survival or wild. Just think what you can buy instead of that like 2 or more sirloin steaks which would taste a lot better.if you prefer dehydrated meals buy a dehydrator and the silver bags like I’ve done plus a couple of dehydrator books.the only downside is the price of electric.have fun in being robbed 😢

damn, thats pricey. could make a good batch of chicken or beef stew in a slow cooker for that price, which is a meal now and foil bag up portions for camping 4 or 5 times

That was disappointing, for £15, I was hoping when you opened it, a genie would pop out and grant you 3 wishes, think your channel is brilliant, and way enjoy watching your videos
