Is it worth it- Milwaukee Tower Light?

For years and years if you wanted good light on the jobsite these halogen work lights were pretty much your only choice. They got super-hot, so hot they had to have a cage around them, and they had tiny little cords. Worst of all they had these expensive bulbs the broke and burned out constantly. Well not anymore- I just bought this Milwaukee M18 Rocket Dual Power Tower. This LED light puts out 2500 lumens. It can be set up for low head room places like this crawlspace, or extend all the way up to 7 feet tall. This tower transforms the entire room filling it with a warm neutral light. It runs on M18 batteries and will start flashing to give you a warning as they get low. It’s dual powered so if you don’t have any batteries you can just plug it into an extension cord. ‪@hausplans‬

Absolutely worth it! Makes a great light for mobile automotive as well. Yes these lights are indeed awesome! I have the M18 & M12 both which is nice because m12 is smaller so I can use them in more compact areas. Prior to getting these lights however I took my old halogen light tripod and took the halogen lights off and added a couple of LED work lights that were meant to sit on the ground and face up and mounted them to the stand. Those were great for years until these lights came about.

There's several reasons why halogen work lights are just a standard. Here are some reasons. Compared to other Lighting Technologies at the time like fluorescent or hid lamps was the startup time. Halogen and incandescent lights had the quickest startup time. Basically the second that you turned them on they are as bright as they're going to be. Compared to fluorescent lights that have a certain length of time before they at full brightness. One major thing on why halogen work lights are still being used is because of a thing called CRI or color rendering index which basically means how good you can distinguish colors in the lighting condition. Halogen lamps have a CRI of 100 which is the best you can get. For comparison the sun has a CRI of 100 as well. Which makes halogen work lights extraordinary good. For comparison a LED has a CRI of around 80 this number is pretty frustrating though and a fluorescent light has a CR I ever around 85. Incandescent lights also have a CRI of 100 however halogen bulbs last four times longer than incandescent lighting technology. Also not related to the topic but incandescent and halogen lights can easily be damned with no issues. Hope this comment gives you a different Viewpoint of halogen. Yeah LEDs are in just about everything these days the older Lighting Technologies do have their time in their place.

Milwaukee’s ‘true view’ lighting is definitely noticeably better than regular LED lights to me. They claim I think about 85 cri at around 4k warmth. Big difference between the lights on my dewalt tools and the lights on my milwaukees.

These lights are the best! I work in the dark often times and these things are so handy. They can really take abuse/dirt pretty much whatever. I have used them in pouring rain and as long as u can manage to keep the battery somewhat dry they will last for years. The only thing you need to keep an eye on is keeping the handle hardware tightened and a lil grease or lube on the part the handle slides up and down,if you’re going to be using it outdoors a lot. Milwaukee will even send you replacement hardware for the legs etc I’ve heard for free. Good buy bud!

Home depot had a deal, buy 2 batteries and get a free tool. I picked up this light as the included tool and use it all the time at work, camping, in the backyard, etc. It's super Convenient to have.

I got the multi position head version of this in a kit. Very glad I got it. Mines also a charger so I normally keep my depleted batteries by the light, while it’s plugged in. I have a small hand work light, a battery led version of the halogen, head light, and the rocket light. I’m glad I have them all but really love the rocket light, I’m debating on getting this version too, for pathway/supplemental illumination

If I had to do over I would’ve bought the three head version that you have that also charges the battery

Definitely worth it. Imagine the possibilities: 1. Working in tight spaces that's dark 2. Emergency lighting incase of power cut. 3. Camping/outdoor light possiblity 4. No need for external power sources and you can easily work on electricals while the breaker is completely off It's absolutely a cool toy to consider adding to the collection.
