Yes! As a fellow budget player, getting reprints like this is a dream come true. I always wanted cards like Heroic Intervention, Utopia Sprawl or Sword of the Animist but now we can get them. I'm so happy! What deck(s) did you pick up? I pre-ordered Aura of Courage but sadly it isn't here yet. I also wanna pick up the Dragonic Rage precon because go dragons!

there's a good change I just buy this deck to rip it apart for my own voltron style decks. So good!

Also, the rakdos deck has almost perfect manabase and ramp (the 2-mana rocks!!). That seems absurd in respect to previous years precons

Yeah, I was so pleased with all of the old untapped lands in the planar portal deck, that have never been printed in my magic lifetime and were at the "eh, not worth it" level of price. Now they come packaged with the deck I wanted to play!

Agree 100%. If you plan to run the face legend as a commander, you got 2 functional cards for 1. So much better then the pile of oversized cards I will never do anything with.

Exactly! I put Adrix and Nev in my aesi deck for extra tokens and just use the thick card for quantum quandrix. It’s so convenient!

They’re way better but I love the silly giant cards so much haha.

They’ll probably print a better ulrich in the midnight hunt set. While werewolves are cool. I really really didn’t like the “if no one cast a spell last turn thing” it should have just been a mana ability or something to transform

To be fair, I gave one of these to my girlfriend yesterday (whose has never opened any MTG precon before) and she instinctively tried to open it from the top... So yeah, It's happens.

From the cheaper 20$ decks, I would recommend Land's Wrath from Zendikar Rising. Lands Matter is a great entry strategy into commander, because the playstyle fits the slower format and many of the cards you'll get to upgrade it are universally playable in a lot of different decks, so even if you end up dissolving the deck later on it's very easy to pivot to different strategies or build around a different landfall commander like Omnath for instance. Compare that to any of the 2019 commanders for example, and you'll see that they feature a lot of cards that are really only playable in their specific niche strategy. Among the 40$ decks, I'd consider one of the Strixhaven decks, Adrix and Nev and Osgir are both good commanders depending on what you like to play. Tbh none of the decks from Ikoria are really doing it for me (maybe Kalamax, because it contains Pako // Haldan which are great flexible commanders) and Commander 2019 is even worse (because of the specialization on one mechanic). Commander 2018 has some great decks, especially Nature's Vengeance for its land theme, and Subjective Reality if ETB shenanigans are your thing. Any decks older than this aren't gonna be available without a significant markup, so I wouldn't recommend them. At the end of the day, any commander that excites you to build around it is gonna serve you well and which one is ultimately the best for you depends on personal preference. This is just my personal recommendation for what decks I think make for a good starting point into the format.

I would say pick up whatever precon speaks to you. The more recent years (2018+) are better as they are of a better price than 2017 and previous which have mark ups. The ones I would recommend looking into are: Aura of Courage (Dungeons and Dragons) Lorehold Legacies (Strixhaven) Quantum Quandrix (Strixhaven) Faceless Menace (Commander 2019) Dragonic Rage (Dungeons and Dragons)

I’m upgrading mine currently into a +1/+1 counter but with politics sub theme. My friends suck at politics so they are no fun.

I don't know about the US but I got pretty lucky with some websites here in Germany, where you can even preorder a bundle of the commander decks. I think I paid about 20 - 25 Euro or around 25 USD per D&D Commander deck :D

@@dif4797 They have not that big of a selection as other but the stuff they have is cheaper at times. I guess because of trader onlines best price guarantee stuff like decks won't make a big difference :)

I enjoy watching CEDH play, just don't play it personally. But Prosper is the precon I'm going to pick up and upgrade, and I'm excited to see how CEDH players max out his potential!

Some cards you'll want are _Thran Power Armor_ , _Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist_ , _Puresteel Paladin_ , _Kodama of the _*_West_*_ Tree_ , & _Solaflora, Intergalactic Icon_ . If you're looking to pop in any planeswalkers _Nahiri, the Lithomancer_ & _Ugin, the ineffable_ and otheres that work with auras and equipment in Bant would be solid choices. If you can afford her, _Avacyn, Angel of Hope_ might be another good inclusion to protect your board state.

I especially like that they keep me from shuffling my commander into the deck.

I just wish that instead of the thick card or oversized gimmicks, they gave a non foil and a foil of the commander. Or even a non foil and a foil etched like from Commander Legends. I feel that way the cards would get a lot more use.

I sold my thick Twincaster to an online marketplace. Couldn't figure out why it existed. I still Donn't know where my oversized Otrimi went, I think I straight up binned it

I was introduced to it via commander, and even just two months ago I built my first modern deck, being Hammer Time. And now, it’s ascending to tier 1 level! Your videos were and are great teaching tools for anyone looking to dive into this beautiful card game.

That’s what I came here to say. It’s down right insulting to say it’s “lower tier” and refer to them as planeswalker decks. (Clearly not a planeswalker deck). Right out the box with just a few upgrades it can win pods easily.

I started Magic about a month ago and Planar Portals was the first ever commander deck I bought. I asked the clerk at the game store if black/red was a good color combo since those are two of my favorite colors and all she said was “They’re the colors of death.” I asked her if that means it’s good and she just goes “… they’re the colors of death.” Prosper will always have a special place in my heart because holy hell do I love playing this deck.

These new boxes and packaging they started with strixhaven is an improvement. The boxes are actually very usable and fit a sleeved deck with the tokens and life counter comfortably

How is trying to crush down all that cardboard into the bin suppose to be fun? I would pay extra if the packaging was small and with every purchase WotC planted a tree.

intricate packaging is only fun if there's a lot of things in the box you're buying. if these had decks, dice, boosters etc all in one box it would be fun to open, but one deck and a life counter you're throwing in the trash could just come in a tiny box and make everyone happier.

Which of the venture cards allow that? I get the bouncey Zombie can go infinite with some cards, is anything else worth it?

@@martl8615 I don’t think there are any that really go infinite, it mainly comes from just having multiple things that you can trigger each turn. Attack triggers, ETB’s, death triggers, thanks to the deck having a recursion theme it isn’t that hard to ensure all of your enablers are in play.

It went pretty well! Game #1: my buddy won with Galea (we kept calling her Gale lol). Game #2: I won with Prosper. I played with the esper deck game one and wasn't too crazy about it, but I loved the value that came with Prosper. Definitely a deck I plan on building.

@@ngonimutezo6670 I would say they were about the same, the cards with effects built around dice felt a little janky but added a fun twist to the game.

Yep, I play Jeska's Will and Dockside in my 35$ krenko deck, and by god, when I hit those two, it's like 40cc of concentrated "I can't calm the fuck down" is injected straight into my boardstate. It's such a high lol

I've always hated "battle lands" because every time I hear them I think "Battlebond lands"
