Tailoring your own is definitely the better option if you know what you're doing. And if you don't know what you're doing, then the kit probably isn't going to be much help. Most of the pre-made kits tend to be lacking in one regard or another.

The target audience for the kit seems to be those with more money than time. For them it's worth paying some serious coin for off the shelf mundane gear in a Gucci box. $100 and a 5 gallon bucket with lid would be a great start. Then toss in the remaining $95 in gear and you're all set. Oh, maybe get a survival book as well. You know, just in case.

I have to agree. I do the 5 gallon bucket systems in my pantry for non perishable food and rotate them out. I can get a couple weeks of food in one bucket. Then like you said. Hiking bag and stuff the gear. Fire starters, water filtering etc. and one could very easily survive in the wild for a while. Hell Ive done it on e hell of a lot less.

Right on! 100% on point. As a former FMF corpsman I'll tell you that you can build your own med kit for under $20 at Wal-mart or target that will be far superior to these pre-packed kits. With the exception of the tourniquet of course. Grab those on sale at North American Rescue.

Great video! The contents of the box were good stuff, I mean there are boxes with crappier gear and higher prices...I agree just too expensive... My usual recommendations to my friends is just "buy stuff you want in your box or bag but use them"... By the time you're proficient at using them you'll have a great bug out bag or whatever.... But the skills you'll have will be the real tools.

Another advantage I see in your bag vs that box. Portability. Ok what happens if you have to hoof it. That box will be a pain in the but to lug around. You have the bag, with shoulder straps. Throw it on and go. Trade off with someone to give yourself rest. That box was all about branding. Yeti and Uncharted pasted on everything. Give me a hiking bag any day and I can stuff the crap out of it and survive a lot longer than that box will provide. Great, honest review sir!

Very good video Bro, I always say show the people the truth, these boxes are nothing more than cash grabs, most of your survival gear you can pick up at the dollar store, you can make your own shelters out of what nature has laying around , fire is easy to make and there are cheep ways of getting or making your own fire starters, you can make your own MRE'S at home with a vacuum machine , and just remember get wool blankets or good sleeping bags, you only need shelter if its raining or snowing, other that that you CAN sleep outside , you wont melt or die

It's a pretty box but I prefer to make my own survival kits with items I have actually used or will be using in the future. You have to train with your gear to know if it's solid, works for you or if it is needed in your kit. Buying a kit like this and toss it in the closet would be a fail in a real crisis.

Your video was very informative for me, and was presented well(what follows is a opinion only of the survival kit not the channel or reviewer). They are branding this as basically a 72 hour kit for 4 people, but water is so terribly important. I live in Arizona, and can see a person buying this "Off the Shelf" kit for their 4 special people and possibly bad things happening. 4 people in summer desert needs a lot(!@#$ ton) of water--Injuries, Health, Age, Medical conditions increase those minimal needs. And finding a water source may not even be possible in some areas. I understand weight is a issue for kits, but there should be enough water for survival of 4 people 72 hours without resupply/gathering/scouting(at least if they call are it a 4/72 hour build)? Guessing this is a vehicle or home kit as I don't see anyone lugging a Yeti case around, so the water bottle is a adorable/solid canteen but not enough. As a outdoorsman and retired Paramedic from rural Arizona this kit appears lacking in a glaring way concerning water in regards to desert. Hopefully kit specifically informs person to supplement for the location of use and time of year(bug repellant anyone?). I'm not from the Cold north so I will leave that observation of the kit to neighbors way up North. Just a humble opinion of a grumpy old man. Your review was legit, I'll start watching this channel. Peace all, happy prepping from Arizona.
@ShadeSlayer1911
@ShadeSlayer1911 2 жыл бұрын
I think the lesson to take away is that no one kit is going to suit all environments, situations, or locations. That would probably be impossible. So even if you buy a pre-made kit, you have to at least modify it to fit your own specific needs. A person in Canada is going to have to worry about warmth a lot more than a person in Arizona, and a person in Arizona is going to have to worry more about water than a person in Canada. A single kit isn't going to cover both people equally well. For as much as I like these pre-made kits, I often find that it's better and mor cost effective to put one together yourself. You can fit your own personal needs better that way. Plus, everyone should be tailoring their kits not just to their environments, but to the specific trips they're going on.
@Harrington2323
@Harrington2323 Жыл бұрын
They should have a "warm" and "cold" option. Not only water but also the beanies are suboptimal. Like you said for desert you need minimum 2 pumps, 2 or 4 bottles and some water purifikation tablets. Some hats with shade for the neck and sunscreen 50.
@seilah8

I also loved the box itself, looks really sturdy. They could cut costs if they didn't need to brand every single item. At least not in an expensive way. Also, the way they branded the multitool was in a way that I think it was the most expensive, and unnecessary too. They could have just put stickers on it or used a simple laser surface engraving. Totally agree with you, way overpriced. Liked the channel, subscribed.

I have a truck box as well that stays in our jeep at all times its packed with more food water and ammo

*Everything 4 People need to survive 72 Hours:* Clothes they are wearing, preferably appropriate to weather. 2 20oz bottles of water each. Thats actually MORE than is ABSOLUTELY Necessary but 72 hours is really not that long and unless you are caught in extreme weather of some sort and assuming you will be provided water after 72 hours the human body really doesn't need ANYTHING to LIVE for that period of time. This is why Skills will always trump Gear no matter the situation. O.o

yeah i have just never been a fan of premade kits like this... to keep the cost down and to make sure they still have a high margin of profit they cut so many corners in quality and selection of items. you could put stuff together for cheaper and for much more, but at least it would likely be gear you know and trust and mixed with stuff you should already have (eg hats gloves etc). for folks who have nothing and aren't into preparedness yet or who are just starting and overwhelmed by the cost of alllll the things... it might be an okay buy to start with and then heavily supplement, but yeah... anyway, thanks for sharing. i haven't seen your 4 person bag video, i'll go check that now ;)

Totally agree on price. The comment I see often is that you are paying for someone to plan and assemble this kit, which has never won me over. They plan this once and then spit them out on a production line, your buying in bulk and that usually affords you a discount. In my opinion you would do better buying someone's bug out bag list on amazon.

I would say go to Harbor freight by one of their pelican style cases and go from there. The problem I see with most off-the-shelf 72 hour kits is there not the best quality for as much as they charge for those things. As far as food i would put MRE‘s or even Mountainhouse meals. As far as putting something in a rolling case Rubbermaid make some pretty good pack out containers they may not be the most weatherproof but you can weatherproof the items inside

Gucci survival kit, surprised it doesn’t come in different colors, with the logo available in shiny metallic. I do like the box, and as you said, money wise and practical survival, it is much easier to setup you own kit, but “you don’t know what you don’t know” is their market share . Other issue is; I wouldn’t want to hump that box around if I need to move from the vehicle AND this only works IF I’m in the vehicle or maybe weather disaster, short term kit. BIG drawback is the water requirement when eating the “food” bars, wow… More issues but I get what it was designed for, prior Mil background with survival and field operations skews my opinion. Thanks for the info, knowledge is always a good thing. Will check out your channel. Be Safe out there

Love the box. I would skip everything else and build my own kit containing 12 freeze-dried meals or MREs. Those Datrex bars are great for supplemental calories but would be terrible for feeding a family of four over 72 hours. One good, hot meal per person per day goes a long way in terms of energy and morale.

I honestly believe that yeti stuff is pretty indestructible. I got hit by a car on my bike and my water bottle was dead on where it hit and apparently it flung out into the air and landed on the tarmac because someone grabbed it for me, and it has a few scratched as one tiny little dent at the bottom. That water bottle has been through hell and back that's just one example that more so extreme to get my point across. Those things are tough.

When I first started "prepping", I didn't know anything. I bought 3 expensive bug out bags for me and 2 of my sons that live with me. My oldest son already has his bug out bags for his family. Looking at the Uncharted box you reviewed, I know I have much better stuff for less than that box. Not counting the bags that I bought. If I knew then what I know now I would have done differently. But all in all my bags are much better equipped if the need arises for me and my sons to have to bug out. Honestly, unless things in my area were real bad, I would just bug in. I have plenty of extra stuff to support us for quite awhile.

It seems like a good layout, especially if you don't want to create your own kit. $700 though you can buy the Yeti Go Box and fill it with much better items plus you can cover your redundancies, which this box seemed to lack. You'd definitely want to add a few items when you receive this. I'd like to know what's inside their FAK. I didn't see a TQ and that would be the first thing I'd want in there for this layout. It does seem that most aspects are covered here though but I'd still much rather build my own kit. The Yeti Go Box, even at it's price, is a phenomenal idea, just make sure you invite a 5th person on your journey to carry it. If I'd use the Yeti Go Box for anything, it'd be in the back of my vehicle.

One of the things that breaks me up is that these companies don't take into consideration mobility ability. I know some people will say " But they have back packs..." try hauling that 4 person bag you have if you are suffering from injury or infirmity. A Nanuk 935 is a good size box that could easily hold all this stuff and it can be towed on the wheels or carried. Just saying...

Great Video! You should put together a real $700.00 for two people. In the same style as this. Including a box. Not a yeti, but a decent one that can act as a cooler as well. Use very dependable gear to give the user a better than average chance at surviving a whole week. Not just three days. And if it gets good feedback from the viewers. Sell it on your channel or webstore! Just a suggestion!

Saw the yeti and was hoping this would be a premium across the board item kit, its nowhere close to where it should be.

$700 for the box is significant. Technically the box will be in an auto or some type of mobile vehicle. The majority wont be lugging this box around. So being bear proof ? Isn't quite necessary if you live in an urban environment but i get it. I really don't see $400/500 worth in this box but that may be every persons individual opinion. Lots of branding i guess they could put more in the box if they spent less on the branding but i also get that. Enjoyed the vid.

you can likely make your own for 1/4 of that price, and you get to pick and choose what you prefer vs those "ok" quality Item

Kitbashed Survival did a review of Uncharted's Seventy2 Pro. This is a much better buy, but... this is a Yeti plus about 1.8 Seventy2 Pros. It isn't a "base camp", despite the tube tents and the shovel and ferro rod trying to convince people this is for outdoor survival. The water filtering capability is woefully low- they should have put in a second filter and a second bottle to go with the two squeeze bottles, plus two cups since this is for four people. I think they should tell you you need more food. That flashlight sucks- I got one like that in November. It just fell apart on me a couple days ago and the switch not only won't work, it won't stay in place. Can not support, no matter who's brand is on it. The shovel is probably find for soft soil, ,but not rocky, or as a pry bar on debris. And for the price... look, the multi doesn't have to be a Victorinox or Leatherman, or even a Gerber or Sog. Ozark Trails (yes, Walmart) has a $40 tool that has the build quality of a Wingman and the toolset of a Supertool, so there is no excuse at this price. I do like the size and the quality of the box. I think the box could be improved on. This is a size I like- I'm also 5'11" and "brawny". It holds a lot, and if I'm smart it won't be too heavy for me. Normally. If my knee blows out again, or my retired mother has to move it, not happening- this is the size where wheels starts to be an idea. Here's what I think in total. Case good. But I can get stacking, modular boxes from Rigid and Dewalt that are as robust and have base units that can be rolled and are at least as water tight as Yeti, for less money. Its a good kit for city folk- overpaid and under trained cityfolk who aren't getting out of the city, just going to a shelter were there is more consumables waiting. Price isn't bad for what you get, but Im just not sure what you get, taken in whole, is that great.

The only reason I can think of to warrant needing this case is if you live on the coast and are anticipating a tidal wave. Does it float? How much does this weigh? Also, thanks for the excellent and honest review.

If I'm making a 4 person bag or box I'd give each person their own stuff like their own sawyer straw, flashlight, and bottle as well as plenty of actual food. For $700 this is a complete waste of money. There are plenty of boxes out that are just as good as the Yeti box and cost half as much and hold twice as much supplies.

Nice breakdown, I think there is a market for something like this but its not for anyone that knows enough to set up their own kit. It's like the kind of thing you would send to your kids when they have not shown any interest in preps and then they marry a bank manager. At least they would have the basics right....
