The irony of shaming Luka for being ball dominant while Brunson has a higher usage rate and is more ball dominant. Somebody get Brou a stat man. Btw, Luka in that lower usage rate, gets far more assists and creates more points off passes than any other player. It’s annoying how much these analysts don’t actually watch teams and players they comment on play.
@AC-ns4gu
@AC-ns4gu 15 күн бұрын
Usage rate has nothing to do with how long you hold the ball. It only takes into account how many possessions you finish with a fg attempt, turnover or assist. Time of possession is the stat that actually matters when discussing ball dominance.

The point is, Luka had help, but how is help going to help you if you're not gonna let them have the ball some more? Why was Luka still leading the league in time of possession with Jalen Brunson playing with him? How about utilize the strengths of players around you and enhance their strengths with an actual off-ball game instead of turning them into spot up floor spacers in order for you to have as much space as possible to run spread pick and roll all game long while dominating the ball with the highest time of possession in the league?

@@youngjuice92 No son, I did watch, just as I have been watching since back when Larry Bird and Magic played. I have comments from back then talking about Brunson being the most productive "2nd option" of the entire playoffs and Luka not giving him the ball enough with his league leading time of possession both in the regular season and the playoffs. You do realize this information is on the NBA's official site, right? They have tracking data, Luka's time of possession in the playoffs that season was leading the league, way ahead of guys like Ja Morant and James Harden and Chris Paul, and literally 180% more than Brunson's. Btw, the Mavericks have also been the lowest or near lowest in team passes/g for several years now. Wonder why? Because when the ball is so heavily dominated by one player, of course it can't be moving, as logic and common sense dictates that. So no, he did not give up the rock, he was still dominating it too much. Btw, in the playoffs right now, he's still dominating the ball, having a time of possession 161% more than Kyrie. That can work for the 1st couple rounds, but that's almost never gonna work in the WCF, and certainly not in the Finals. As Kobe said, "I don't think that style's ever gonna win championships." As Tex Winter said, "I rejected the idea on relying only on a point guard, who must make all ball handling decisions: I think, ultimately, that a good opponent would pressure and destroy a point-guard oriented team."

False, in 2021-2022 during the regular season there was a stretch when Luka was out with injury for a little over 2 weeks. Brunson barely averaged 19 ppg in that time with no Luka. I think Brunson owes a lot of his current success to playing with and going to school on Luka. Brunson isn't a super athletic guy, but he's found his groove playing with a tempo and style similar to Luka's. He admitted to having very little confidence when he came into the league. Imagine if Dennis Smith had been the Mavs' point guard. Brunon would have had only very athletic point guards to play with and against, and he wouldn't have developed the muscle memory that he did copying Luka's moves.

So its Luka fault now that Brunson only got the chance playing on his "4TH SEASON" with the mavs when Hardaway got injured and its also Luka's fault that Brunson never was an impact player for his first 3 seasons with the Mavs and was benched during his 3rd season because he was unplayble in the playoffs. It was also Lukas fault that Mark Cuban/front office lowballed him during the extension negotiation. How ironic that yall are not saying anything about Brunson's usage rate and how the way he plays with the Knicks cause it was the same way Luka played with the Mavericks when Brunson was there because of lack of help. When Brunson pound the ball for 20 seconds never passing the ball and shoot a though shot its sensational but when Luka does it he is a ball hog and never make his teammates better. Yall media are 🤡s

Isn’t Kyrie having one of the best seasons of his career with Luka? Now Brunson has a great season in the JV league and Doncic was holding him back? PJ and Gafford also breaking out next to him? Give me a break
@davidhill7071
@davidhill7071 15 күн бұрын
Luka wasn't holding Brunson back, but Dallas' play style sure was. The everything has to run through Luka style makes guys just sit and wait for catch and shoot opportunities. Or, like Gafford and Lively, get theirs from screen and roll with Luka. Kyrie is going to get his bcoz he is going to force his opportunities to create off the dribble. J Kidd can't stop that. With Brunson and Dinwiddie they didn't have that leeway. Brunson won 2 of the 3 games when Luka was hurt in 2022 firstround against Utah. He was also the 2nd leading scorer for the mavs in those playoffs. He showed what he could do. Dallas was just so hung up on getting an already established 2nd superstar. They fumbled the bag letting Brunson get away. Could have had money leftover for another piece.

Rob is 100% right. We saw the same thing with Russell Westbrook and Victor Oladipo. I don't think Westbrook is as good as Luka nor do I think Oladipo was as good as Brunson is but likewise we saw a guy who was actually much better than his stats said he was while in the shadow of the superstar who then blossomed on other teams. Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge has this problem and is why Aldridge left

What do I think? First of all that's a bad opening question. Indictment. Really? Brunson is an extremely talented undersized guard and is where he needs to be (to be the best version of himself) - in the Eastern Conference. Despite his incredible run, Brunson would probably not be an All Star had he stayed in the Western Conference. Just an opinion.

Carlisle is far more at fault than Luka. He wouldn’t play Brunson. Dallas did offer him that deal midway through season 4 and by that point he wasn’t signing that deal. Dallas got to a WCF with those two, it worked just fine. They screwed up but that was on Carlisle and Cuban.

Yes. Holding the rock for 16 of 24 seconds is TERRIBLE for winning. Nobody else can get into rhythm - unless they start hot - which typically bleeds over to a lack of effort on the defensive end… especially if they’re losing. Hence Jalen Brunson. Hence the reason I say LBJ had help but mismanaged them in 6/8 finals losses. Cant blame bad performances on a player when they total time with the rock is like 2 mins… out of 24/48 mins

Brunson wasn’t this good on Dallas. Luka is their star and their starting point guard. Brunson wasn’t going to shine until he could be starting point guard which wasn’t going to happen in Dallas and Luka didn’t hurt Brunson, they play the same position. Duh. This is a dumb take.

Chris doesn’t watch the Knicks or Dallas. Brunson plays great off the ball. His catch and shoot numbers are great high 3 pt percentage. He can get off the ball and score run like a Ray Allen, Reggie Miller. Or even back door plays unfortunately Randle is hurt and the Knicks don’t have another player who’s a great on ball player

I love Kyrie.. but we should still have Brunson. Luka was just too much of a ballhog. Kyrie at this point in his career don’t care abt anything but winning. So, he’ll score 9 points, drop dimes & play defense. But you can tell Kyrie is going out of his way to comfort Luka, which, if you’re THAT GUY, nobody has to lessen their game for you.

Again, Jordan shot mostly 2s just like Kareem and they're amongst the all time scoring leaders... lebron and Kobe shot way more 3s than both Kareem and Jordan, let that sink in...and not only that, both Kareem and Jordan have 2 of the most unstoppable moves in NBA history, the hook shot, which only wilt blocked when Kareem was young, twice in a game, DAMN, and Jordan's patented turnaround, because that's what it is, fadeaway, over just fading and shooting... LEARN THE GAME YALL

so PJ Washington is looking like scottie pippen in dallas next to Luka, Gaffords great, rookie Lively is like Dwight... all cause of how Luka is slowing them down.. Derrick Jones jr was almost out of the league and last game he had 19, game before 17. all on catch and shoot from Lukas passes, or cuts or secondary drives - again from primary Luka actions and all his years in the league he couldnt hit a bucket to save his life, Dante Exum was playing great during regular season and he was playin in europe last year, he was 49% from 3 this year on mostly catch and shoot from Lukas passes, his last stint in the league he was18% from 3. All of that cause Luka made those guys worse somehow? Mavs team is winning with defense - with Luka and Kyrie playing big minutes. Mavs are winning with crap games from both Kyrie and Luka mostly. Luka is hurt and limping but theyre still winning. I love to watch you guys, but you are just not watching the games, you have narrative from 2 years ago and youre sticking with it, dont care about whats really going on. I guess watching basketball is too hard these days... Even then it wasnt true - Luka dragged Slovenia to win Euro championship on his own lifting bad to mediocre teammates above their ability - winning against Serbia and others who had much better rosters.

We talkimg abut a bench player 8 pint per game, 3rd season nominated to 6th MOY and 4thnseason for a first time starter he got MIP votes and him and luka got to the conference final. How is luka fault that jalen brunson took 6 year to develop in the player he is today??? That is normal nba progress time line.
