I jumped the turnstile once. An officer stopped me but I was underaged so they couldn’t give me a ticket. That was back when the subway functioned. Now there’s regular delays and cancelled routes. I don’t blame people for not wanting to pay almost $3 for bad service. Sometimes I pay $2.75 only to realize the train has been rerouted and won’t come to that station. So I have to leave and reenter somewhere else for another $2.75.

You can't do that in a black neighborhood they have a room in the station, just to catch the poor people. There were 2 standing in my station everyday this week...smh

@42 jade people will always be crazy no matter what. you cant fix that. the problem is if crazy people have guns then there is a problem. we get it, guns don't harm people unless they are used by someone. yet there's lots of people out there willing to harm others. so if nobody has no guns or atleast only pure stand up citizens have guns, crazy people will have to use a knife or kick their way to jail. it's the only solution. and don't tell me about good people with guns can stop bad guys. where was the good guys in all these mass shootings? that approach is like active war front. or failed state. look other countries make sure guns only belong to military men and police. and may be noble men with good stature in society can have guns . and may be being a stand up guy with good morals can mean something. the only thing the government has to do is get rid of crime and that means investing in poor communities and education because crime is consistent with low income. all that said I dont think people should give up their guns knowing there is criminals out there with guns. if I was a gun advocate I would say ; look, there is crime and I'm gonna protect myself.

There were only around 300,000 apprehensions at the border wall last year, and the border patrol’s own estimate is that they are already 80% effective at stopping crossings. Thus, a wall would only be able to have an impact on stopping some of the remaining

We were blowing up about it all along. During the campaign, and every day since, we've been blowing up about it. If we're angrier now, maybe it's because he's going to usurp the Article I authority of Congress to build it. The constitution is crystal clear. Congress decides where the money goes, not the president. If he doesn't like what Congress offers him, he's free to veto it, and Congress is free to attempt an override. We can not give Presidents the authority to declare some bogus emergency whenever they disagree with Congress about how they allocate our tax dollars. The day we allow that, we no longer have a Congress, and we'll have a president with unlimited power.

The devil is in the details. Details that I don't know, and I'm guessing most of us don't know. I'll give you an example from my own city. An insurance company wanted to locate their headquarters here, across from our train station. To get them here, we would have to expand the station, build a parking garage, and seize dozens of historic buildings under eminent domain and demolish them. And we'd have to pay for ALL of that. On top of that, we were offering such a sweetheart deal on tax breaks that it would have taken us literally 40 years just to break even on those investments. All for jobs that would almost certainly go to commuting out-of-towners anyway. They'd take the train in, take that same train home, and spend their money there, not here. We opposed it, and we won. I don't know the numbers on the Amazon deal. If people were opposing it just from some ideological perspective, like, "Gentrification is BAD! Tax breaks for corporations are BAD!" Then they were wrong to do so. If they opposed it because the numbers added up to a bad deal for New Yorkers, then good job - I'm glad they shut it down. The bottom line is that no one here who has not actually poured over the details of this deal and crunched the numbers is qualified to offer an opinion. Ideological posturing doesn't help people. Sound, pragmatic public policy is what helps people.

​@@hostileaks4495 yeah the jobs would be good for sure, but the 3 billion dollar tax writeoff is not good enough. They will also end up getting well over 3 billion dollars in subsidies and it creates a trend for other big businesses which in the end will hurt nyc. These businesses should be competing by themselves, amazon is one of the most wealthy companies in the world. They can afford to pay all of their taxes and just this one HQ site write-off would provide enough taxes to support massive projects for the state. Think about how many schools you can build with 3 billion, or how many people you can support through medicare. Yes, the jobs it provides would also be tax payers but you should be getting both slices of the pie, employee taxes and the business tax.

There was a lot of opposition against Amazon since they sidestepped business regulations, would increase housing prices, displace people already in public housing in the area, increase traffic in already crowded subways right in the middle of the city, and Amazon's anti union stance bypassing local laws in a Union town.

All those people probably would have liked the project. I hope it comes to my state. I don't think besos should be paying for everyone's Medicare even if he had a personal wealth of 100 billion. Just keep providing jobs and communities will grow.
