Emmanuel Acho, LeSean McCoy, Joy Taylor, and Ric Bucher discuss whether Kevin Durant’s legacy is unfairly criticized in the NBA. Joy weighs in on KD’s situation and explains he has reached a point where he has realized he only needs to live and play for himself. The group then debate what KD would have to do to quiet his critics.

KD is absolutely NOT unfairly criticized. It's all fair, much like with every other superstar. Both on and off the court is in the line of fire. It comes with the territory. Behavior towards media is also criticized. He claims it's unfair because he dug himself a hole too deep. Had he not gotten snippy at golden state after two rings and then continued to be so, more than likely the criticism wouldn't be nearly as bad, but it still wouldn't be unfair.

I think it's blowback from the LeBron/media aura. Where everything he does has to be scrutinized with the finest toothed comb. Nobody but you guys in the media, your friends not ours, roast him for leaving GSW. We 5 him because he said he wanted to build and lead his own team. His own words, nobody told him say that. But yet choose Kyrie to run with and let Kyrie run the show when he said he wanted to run it, which was why he was there. It's simple. He took the easy way out. Let's not forget he had the ability to have a say in personnel in OKC and he decided not to be loyal and jump ship to the team that bounced him out of the playoffs the previous year. He was getting left behind in the conversations and as fragile as his mind is, did the most desperate thing he could think of and had an easy trip to the Finals for validation. That doesn't sit well with fans, he tried to copycat LeBron in order to increase his legacy but it did the exact opposite, it questioned his legacy, not to mention the train wreck that the Brooklyn Nets became when the franchise gave a player who's never been a leader and has no team building acumen all the power they could. That's why he's criticized. It's not questioning his ability, it's questioning is his superstar status legitimate or not. He's a great player but does he belong in the conversations of the greatest in the modern era..

Every great players in the top 15, and 10 get criticized all the time. That’s how we separate and rank these players. KD replaced Harrison Barnes on the 73 win Warriors team. Which made them unbeatable. Remember that KD Thunders were up 1-3 vs Golden State in the western Conference Finals and KD ended up choking in the WCF against the Warriors. The next season he joins the team that beat him in the previous year in the playoffs. If you can’t beat them, you joins them.

How many great teams win without good qb? Look at 2012 Chicago Bears. No one says his teammates were bums without him, football is a team sport, but Qb is the centerpiece. It takes players like Brady, Montana, Mahomes to win repeatedly. Before Brady helped Bucks become champions, all the media talking head said it's all Belichick's mastermind and you can put anyone with Patriots and still win, now are more in agreement that Brady is a big part of that legacy.

KD is an all time great player, but he’s kinda stuck in the top 15ish range (14th or 15th) until he proves that he can win as the leader, when LeBron won his 2 chips in Miami, his legacy wasn’t cemented yet. He had to be the leader AND best player to cement his legacy and leapfrog other greats. Same with KD, if he did what LeBron did in Cleveland and LA, he may climb the all time great ladder significantly. We know KD’s struggles without GSW, 2013 WCSF vs Memphis was a bad series and shot 36% from the field and 67% from the FT Line. 2016 was the 3-1 series chokejob against GSW, and then last year in 2022, KD was terrible against Boston and got swept?

KD haters try to diminish the great things he’s done, went to the finals in his early 20s, was in the western conference finals basically every year he was healthy on the Thunder. The West at that time was far more heavily stacked than the East. KD has been the best player on every team he’s been on and he’s played for a few great teams

The problem is we are in a era where top 10 players and alphas move from team to team where this didn't happen much 30 years ago. It's the players prerogative and I am not a fan but it's the time we're in now. When you're arguably the best player in the league, you should attract the best role players to you, but like I said that was our day. He'll be ok. Great individual talent, not much of a team leader as is the case with many of this generations best players.

Its clear they wanted to take the easy way out and recruit him to the team. If you're saying that KD didn't want to work for the ring, well neither did they. Otherwise Steph, Klay, Draymond, and Iggy wouldn't have showed up alongside Kerr to convince KD to play for them. So yall can sit here all day and say that the Warriors were a great team. Obviously they didn't think they were good enough to run it back. Well never know whether KD wouldve tried to join the Warriors on his own because the Warriors approached him first
