I think that thixotropic nature of stack lead white can be seen to great effect in the skies of the great Dutch landscape painters Ruisdael, Konnick etc. I’ve tried to duplicate that translucent fluidity, but have struggled to come even remotely close. Excellent vid again and happy birthday Tatiana!

Great video.! How do you clean up the lead and keep lead soaked rags and paper towels, etc., out of the trash, which would go into landfills? I’d be interesting in trying lead, but I want to do it responsibly. Maybe you could make a video on responsible cleanup? Thanks again!

@Kdogpiper last time I was dropping odd spent batteries and light bulbs at my local hazardous waste drop-off, I asked about artist paint waste. Yes, they are gleeful to takenold tubes, rags, etc from lead paint and any of the heavy metal paints. But this varies from place to place so ask at your local drop-off to see what they accept.

@@RublevColours I’m really enjoying the characteristics of the paint. It’s completely different than titanium paints. I could write several pages of comments on the nuances of the paint. It will take me awhile to really feel like I’m taking full advantage of its capabilities.

There's medical records of lead material being absorbed through the skin, i dont think making it a powder makes it safer in the first place from that, i like to be specific when it comes to toxic material rather than speaking generally, and the fact oil passes through our skin makes it worse, i've heard of people even using gloves would end up with paint on their skin so that's the minnimim precaution. Symptoms come out as stereotypes of aging up, mental and physical degradation long term... making it easy to go under the radar and as Lead progressively gets banned there isnt medical interest to dive in specific research as it from experience they know Lead is dangerous and to stay away from it if possible. Being a user of titanium white along artists like Steve Huston, James Gurney, Morgan Weistling etc... it hasnt been found to be a troubling color to paint with at all... after all when it comes to art, there's no rules but just tools. Not to start a fight but to be honest about the missinformation and lack correlation of claims to what's been proven about the subject of lead, putting on front its just a bias and you can perfectly mix and paint with titanium if you know what you're doing...

As a portraitist I respectfully disagree that Titanium can be used in place of lead white. They are completely different; even straight out of the tube the visual differences are striking (lead is warm and pearly, almost like cake frosting). Titanium white is a great paint, but nothing beats lead-based whites for painting flesh. Zinc has its place too, but it’s brittleness makes it unsuitable for alla prima or any impasto techniques.

Seriously ? titanium white the worst pigment in the world, spoils every color. Tit.W. is nasty and blunt.

@James Williams i think i just care about health more... what a shocker. They all fracture. Eventually they'll only be kept in its original light by digital media... which for something with its true value coming in the visualization of it, shouldnt be bad. Speaking of which, if a painting doesnt keep its visual excellency in a properly taken photograph, perhaps we should reconsider calling that excellency only an expensive trick if it truly "cant" be enjoyed any other way. And excellent example of an excellent painter who does not care for the most fine perfect conservation methods would be Steve Huston, the artist keeps high resolution photos of his paintings of which i dare say his skill and visual mastery always comes through as true, without an issue, in photographs.

I can do an entire painting without getting paint on my hands (unless I touch something on purpose) artists need to just stop being sloppy, or just wash your hands the second you get paint on them if it happens.

I use wolnut oil and safflower oil in my lead white as a binder often I use poppy oil . I use this oil to avoid any yellowing problem with lead white . But it takes very long time for drying . Now I want to use some fast drying midium which is liquin original . l use it in a very little amount in my painting . But I am dont know that should I use lequin original in my lead white ? The liquin original can make my painting yellow or it can creat any problem with the lead white?
@RublevColours

You will experience less yellowing with lead white if you use lead white in linseed oil to accelerate drying time and apply the pant in thin layers.

Can lead pass through your skin if you touch it? ....if you have sleepless nights for using lead white paint.... get tested.... maybe simply avoid lead white all together.
@bozmundarts2614

Apparently so, the issue is lead poisoning is slow, but it also accumulates... specially in oil paint form because the lead particles are grinded smaller, i'm trying to do medical research on it because some guy saying "naaaah its safe it doesnt go through skin" is absolutely trust unworthy, its insane how people take opinions without actual medical research in their hands...

@@bozmundarts2614 So what did you find? The holy grail of oil paint right now is to find a safe alternative for lead white paint, that behaves like lead white, and is non toxic. Maybe barium/titanium white? I guess no abstract expressionist painter has used lead white.
@bozmundarts2614
@bozmundarts2614 2 жыл бұрын
@@etienne7774 well, i certainly found out that people need to discern between the size of pigment powder being unnable to pass through the skin, and the absorvant qualities of the material itself being used, because lead has record to be asborved by the skin which makes it dangerous and absorbable wether as a block or powder.
@bozmundarts2614

@@etienne7774 but we have a possible alternate of a pigment! I just havent bought and put it to the test yet. When titanium white took its place in the industry of oil paint, apparently painters would have put to the side a semi transparent neutral white called "lithopone white" which Williamsburg sells it as "Porcelian white" and Senneliers pigments offer the pigment itself! I am most excited to get my hands on it and run it through some tests for reliability, why well because there isnt a lot of information surrounding it, and maybe i'll make a post about it somewhere ^^
