I’ve watched this video before and felt a lot of admiration for her. Yes, America is expensive but it’s a great teacher of life. This lady is working for an American firm. If she had a South African job she might have been living from pay cheque to paycheck as well. She is now teaching us all what to do. ❤🙏🏾

I visited South Africa from the US a few years ago, for Americans SA is indeed very inexpensive. Citizens there kept telling me that I could buy a nice house in one of the nice coastal towns. Only problem is that crime is so high there that literally everything has to be secured. Most of the residential areas I saw contained houses which were surrounded with barbed wire and some had private security which patrolled the neighborhoods. This of course is anecdotal, but from what citizens told me this seems to be a normal thing in SA. I hope that changes soon, looks like it could be a nice place to live. I certainly enjoyed my time there. When I landed in Johannesburg (after a 16-hour flight from Atlanta), the SA customs lady never said a word to me, just opened my passport, looked at something on her screen and stamped it. From there I was free to roam, getting in was very easy.

The exchange rate favors us, but I wish more American companies were there to offer more job opportunities to help them. There are nice areas with security in place.

Are you sure because other African Americans living in South Africa never been robbed saying crime is high in America, one thing i know is that I can walk anywere without mass-shootings and policing shootings between SA and USA whos the Boss in crime
@avestuart
@avestuart Жыл бұрын
@@lebohangthebe-hp4gw Yes i'm sure. I live in the USA and have visited South Africa. I've also looked at crime stats and South Africa still tops the list in terms of overall crime compared to the US. Corruption in SA also tops the US according to stats. This is anecdotal here, but I've heard many stories from residents in SA who've been extorted by police officers during traffic stops. While taking Ubers i've been warned by drivers that there are "police stops" around various areas and that if we're stopped and they find out i'm an American they will demand money. Many have told me that they've called police after being victims of a crime and police never showed-up. That by-and-large doesn't happen in the US. Every single resident i've met in South Africa warned me about safety. Everyone is on edge there. It's just what it is right now. Further, according to stats my chances of being involved in a police shooting here in the US are fairly low. My chances of being involved in a mass-shooting are also fairly low. Yes they do happen, yes we have a problem, but still we don't have the problems which are currently plaguing South Africa. All you have to do is look at the numbers. I feel like posts such as these devolve into a "my country is better than your country" debate. I'm not really here for that, both countries have their problems. However, stats still favor South Africa in terms of overall crime and that's just a fact right now. Can it change? Yes, it can. Will it do so? Yes, I think it will. All I know is that I had a great time there and i'll return.

The shared historical similarities between the USA and RSA have produced similar identities in both their citizenry and their spaces. You are completely correct, when we view African Americans, we are always marvelled about how your social, economic and human identities resemble us. South Africa is the most industrialised country in Africa and the USA is the most industrialised in the world. South Africa however has a far greater cultural, ethnic and natural disposition than the USA so there are other offerings that South Africa has that no other country in the world and this is the value proposition

Our minimum wage is around R3000 per month if I'm not mistaken - that is around $1 per hour.. if you have matric/work experience or additional qualifications then your salary as a starter should be at least double that amount. The industry that you're in also obviously makes a difference.. IT industries pays the highest salaries on average. Cleaners in the corporate world earns around R12500 per month for example. Waiters might earn R3000 per month fixed salary but they get 10% tips so they can easily make up to R6000-R9000 a month in total. A strange concept for me is that some Americans work 2 or 3 jobs at the same time just to survive..here you are able to survive on one salary (without kids).

I live in that reality where I work 2 jobs whereas in South Africa I only had my 9-5. I probably make 4 times more than I used to when I was in South Africa, but because of the ridiculously high standard of living in the US I end up paying 3 times more in rent, utilities, insurance, food, healthcare, tipping and literally just existing.

Our minimum wage amounts (different per state) leaves our citizens one paycheck away from homelessness especially when they don’t qualify for welfare. Having several jobs at a time keeps that from happening (unfortunately this is the route many people have to take).
@user-bi8wp6wy3l
@user-bi8wp6wy3l 9 ай бұрын
The minumum wage in the US is very low and a reason why tipping is required for people to make a living either that or they have to work more than one job. In Australia our minimum wage is high enough that people can live without relying on tips. The minimum wage in Australia would be the equivalent of R38,000/mth people on the minimum wage usually earn more than that as they also get paid penalty rates for working on weekends, public holidays, doing shift work etc. The minimum wage in a country should reflect the cost of living if you tried to live in Australia earning the equivalent of R3000 per month you would have to rely on govt.welfare payments to survive.

As an Aussie I lived and worked in South Africa and Mozambique for 3 years. I worked for an Australian company in Mozambique I was paid in USD in South Africa I was paid in AUD. The last time I was there in 2019 the exchange rate was R11 for A$1 so for me living in South Africa it was very cheap, Unfortunately for a lot of South Africans being paid the minumum wage in rand it is not.For the wait staff in the complex where we stayed I was actually being paid a day what they earnt in a month . When I was there in 2018 things seemed to be going along OK when I went back in 2019 the power was going off for a couple of hours maybe once a week. Apparently this was shedding and I believe that it may have gotten even worse since then. South Africa is a beautiful country with a rich mix of cultures there is so much to see and do but you also need to be a little more careful at times with your security, Definately worth a visit you should go if you ever get the chance,
