Except for the fact that mounts cost money, there are several itsms in the cash shop you will need for quality of life, and that no one plays the older content. Also the only part of the community that does content is apparently very toxic. This game was already bad and had extreme pay for convenience on release and still is.

I also have had long hiatuses of a year at a time so I can relate to how difficult it can be to come back and relearn old and learn the new mechanics. But with a few friends or just starting a new character is usually been a happy reunion.

they reset /revamped the skill trees maybe 4 times within the past 13 years, i'd say...not a big deal

Indeed, the game is full of issues, it is an old MMO, most of it hasn't been updated since it got released. I do play it from time to time just to lose myself in the world and lore. There are some add-ons which can help with quality of life but not enough to do it properly. I guess the low number of players and subscribers does not give the devs enough hope to do more with it. It can also be due to engine limitations. If it would have a remake like WoW did that would be amazing, also there was supposed to be a LOTRO 2 developed by Amazon , but I think that project got lost.

It is indeed a very old style MMO. It comes with the good and the bad. Technically it's aged and all the problems of old games are there. But it's full of stuff we loved; story, lore, exploration and choice as there's so much content you can pick and choose how you want to progress. Most importantly for me, this game is about the journey, not the end game when "game gets finally good."

In their defense, they never promised it until progress began in the latter half(?) of last year. Their current plan is to release it this year (as well as the new launcher, two/multi-factor authentication, and 64-bit servers).

@@Caerulean its not about if they promised or not, fans demanded it for years and nothing happened. That being said, there really is not a point in playing this very dated mmo because it was dated even when it came out. There are far higher quality mmos to spend your time in than LOTRO. Guild Wars 2, Wow, FFXIV, ESO. The only reason I can think of to play this game is if you love the world of LOTR and dont like the other higher quality LOTR games that have been released. Not to mention the terrible lag the servers have and probably will always have.

@@twall4381 I think you're unfairly holding it to the standard of more financially successful MMOs and I generally disagree with the notion that there is no place for 'lesser' or jankier games when higher-production quality games are available; it's like saying "Why play older, indie, or cheaper games at all when AAA games exist?" None of these games are exactly the same, and LOTRO is not only different because of LOTR alone. I'm not saying your reasoning for playing other MMOs is wrong; I'm just saying it doesn't invalidate other players' reasonings for playing LOTRO or any other 'lesser' MMOs for that matter.

@@Caerulean your argument may work for single player games, but for MMO’s you are wrong. These games require massive amounts of time and dedication and people want their investments to pay off, they do not want to play a game that does not respect your time, feels janky/ is horribly updated and is full of shitty microtransactions. I played this game when it came out and about 2 weeks ago and Im just letting people know an honest and unbiased opinion from the game from the average mmo player, not the average biased LOTRO player. I dont really have to keep this going because the player bases speak for themselves and this one never even had a big one at its peak over 14 years ago.

@@twall4381 I had a feeling you would point out that it's MMOs that are the topic but I'd like to bring fan and private servers of various small or dead MMOs: you're saying they are all essentially wasting their time and should abandon their favorite MMOs because there are "better" MMOs to play instead? And that, for example, the recent granting of an official license to City of Heroes' fan-run servers is no cause for their players' celebration because apparently, by your logic, they should just move over to the "better" MMOs, just because their game falls under the same genre? And, for another example, Project Gorgon should just shut down? While we're at it, let's make a new law that prohibits smaller-than-AAA companies to make new MMOs because they're all gonna have the "inferior" product anyway. It's like asking "why do people like covers of songs when the original or the most popular renditions are so much better anyway?" It's all subjective 'cause enjoyment is subjective; let people try things they want to try, and if they leave due to dissatisfaction, then that's completely valid.
