Watched Bird play defense in a 1986 game - he not only did a very good job on his man but sometimes acted like a free safety to do a quick double team. Nothing like Luka.

Bird made the All NBA defensive second team three times. He averaged 6 assists with relatively few touches, he wasn’t a point-forward. He had incredible stamina and cardio. The years Larry Bird was relatively healthy from 1984 to 1988 he made 42% of his 3 point attempts-in a time when they rarely shot or practiced it. Bird’s 3 point FG% in the 3 point competition the 3 years he won it was: 1986 76.7%; 1987 53.3%; 1988 56.7%. Had it been practiced in HS, college and the pros Bird’s 3 point FG% would be off the charts. His career stats would’ve been 33 pts, 13 rebounds, 9 assists had the 3 point shot been what it is now.

When Luka has 2 MVP's in a row and stalking that third- wake me up then. No wait thats still not fair look at who Larry had to beat out to win those MVP's. BTW Bird was a very solid defensive player Luka pretty much sucks on D

Larry won 3 MVP on a row. Moreover, in 1980-89, before double heel surgery and before bad back got him, his lowest MVP vote was 4th, in his rookie year (1980). After that he was 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, MVP, MVP, MVP, 3rd, 2nd. Plus 2-3 times 2nd defensive team.

I really can't stand & can't believe the talk of Luka being better than Larry. Larry done A LOT more in his 6yrs than Luka has. Larry already had 2 rings. These new cats don't have the drive that Larry had. #birdgang💚🐐🍀

Luka is great but Larry was a beast he never quit or wined he got mad and willed his team to win. Those who were to young to watch him just don’t have a clue how he played and put fear into the entire league.

Talk to me when Luka has 3 Rings, then the debate can begin. Larry not only had the talent but a killer instinct few have ever had. Ultimate competitor, could dominate in any decade.

Average? He's easily one of the top five players in the league, hands down. Bird's defense wasn't anything great either. Same for Magic. Neither one could guard a strong offensive player.

@@NBAHistoryCLNS he did make second team, 3x, I believe. He was a solid help, off the ball defender. He just wasn't very good guarding strong individual scorers. Magic similar, too. Maxwell and McHale always took on the other team's top scoring forward.

Luka won’t be as good as Bird until he gets in better shape. Stop flopping and crying. Stops trying to draw fouls more than shooting. And learns leadership. And he will never be as tough as Bird. But no one is. And the Mavs didn’t quit until Kyrie quit with 6 minutes left. The Mavs were outclassed from the beginning.

This is the last channel I thought would be stupid enough to even suggest Luka was better than Bird. He isn't. He never will be. Ridiculous comparison. They're both white. Luka is going to last maybe five years more. His body will break down more and more. I would take Dirk over Luka any day.

Maybe at this point. However, Luka does Far more than Dirk Ever did. Dirk was only exceptional as a shooter/scorer. He was very ordinary in all other aspects of the game. Luka is outstanding in most areas outside of defense.

I think that Jokic Is way better than Luka and more sinilar to Larry. - more efficient - Better post player - better rebounder - better defender - better leader (more stoic, less emotional with refs) - better conditioned - better off ball player - more effective playmaker (allows teammates to get in rhthm) - better floor raiser (Luka missed the playoffs in his prime and his team is rarely high in the standings)
