I have noticed a white sort of liquid when using these sponges? Is that the actual sponge disintegrating or a cleaning agent added to the sponge? @DanHiteshew-oneandonly4 жыл бұрын
There should not be any additives such as soap or cleaning agents. It's possible you're seeing tiny bits of the sponge itself but it's an inert material so it won't react with anything and it's not toxic.

These things do dissolve as they are used. You’re correct in that they’re like sandpaper. But wiping algae off glass is unlikely to break it down. On that note, a regular sponge should work the same. If it doesn’t and these work better, then some of this thing is dissolving as you use it.

logically, if it works as a sandpaper - it will scuff/haze acrylic tanks. ALSO, if it deteriorates then it's contaminating your water with the non-biodegradable particulate abrasive matter. you think thats safe for our fish? OK Good luck... Poor fish.
@Criterion5154 жыл бұрын
It's obvious you don't have a lot of experience with these sponges. The LAST thing I would do is cut them into thinner sponges. They really don't last very long, and they disintegrate into almost nothing. You basically use them until there's not enough left of them to hold on to... which really doesn't take all that long with normal cleaning. I have used them for algae cleanup, with a small piece rubber banded onto a chopstick. It will release a fine particulate into the water, like a cloudy consistency, no chunks. I found it a bit odd for you to recommend something without actually having tried it yourself.
@loavesfishes62684 жыл бұрын
Criterion515 he did try it and liked it. And I have been using them for quite some time, and have been cutting them into smaller pieces with no more issues than occur when I use them whole, so I find your comment about his “obvious” lack of experience with the product a little off the mark.
