Wayne Rooney 2004-2011 was a top 5 player in the world. It's tragic how underrated and disrespected he is. From 2012 onwards he started slowing down and his levels kept fading because he was already a 35 year old at 28. His body was never going to hold up due to a mix of genetics, early overplaying and bad lifestyle. His humility was also a big factor on why he never got the plaudits, he was always willing to play the supporting act. Post Ronaldo and Tevez, Rooney kept Man United at the top singlehandedly. As for England, his career was completely wasted with no help around him once that 'golden generation' failed and phased out. And despite all that he still has his club and country scoring records.

Fergies last 7 years as a manager isn't spoken about enough. From 06/07 to 12/13 Man United won 5 out of 7 Premier League titles. The 2 they didn't win, they lost 1 by 1 point to Chelsea and the other to Man City by 1 goal, which was scored in the final minutes of the season. 1 point and 1 goal away from winning 7 titles in a row!! Arsenal were in the Champions League final the year before (05/06), Liverpool were in it 06/07, and Chelsea were in it twice 07/08 and 11/12, winning once and losing once to.. Man United. Highlighting just how strong the Premier League was at this time. Man United were in 3 Champions League finals winning 1 and losing 2, to arguably the best footballing club team we have ever seen. The year Man United won it, they beat that same team (Barca) in the semi final. Throw in 2 League Cups, a Club World Cup and 4 Charity Shields in there for good measure. Insanely impressive for the greatest manager of all time and shows how good Fergie was at rebuilding squads
@cbc899
@cbc899 Жыл бұрын
@Anand you could say the exact same for the way the league has been the last 6/7 years. The standard was so low that Leicester managed to win the league 7 years ago. A team who just about escaped relegation the year before. The premier league has been dominated by Man City and Liverpool, both getting record breaking amount of points, which to me highlights a lower standard of competition rather than anything else. Both teams were great but City fail in the Champions league year after year. They have made 1 final. Liverpool are a bit different, but they have that European pedigree behind them that City don't. The league has been a 2 horse race for the last 6 years. Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea and Spurs have never really been a threat. Even the year Chelsea won the Champions League they scraped 4th. Very similar to Fergies last 7 years but I'd say that it was actually slightly more competitive then

If we would have this discussion in Italy, with italien experts, Zlatan would be considered one of the true greats. The level of success he's had in Italy is beyond comparison; two league titles with Juventus, three with Inter, two with AC Milan. The only one, together with Pirlo who's been voted best player of the year three times as well as best foreign player five times! Two times golden boot winner ... I rate all the strikers you mention in this episode but for me, having followed football since the late 60's, Zlatan is the best of all of them. Yes, I'm swedish, but I appreciated all the greats from different countries. His peak, for me, was at Inter. He was unplayable during those year. He's developed from a skillful, dribbling wizard and entertainer into a goalscorer (Capello) and then into a playmaker. And he's 6´5, mind you. He came as a 35 year old to England, maybe that's the main reason he's not appreciated as he should be as he wasn't at the peak of his powers, another reason could be his persona and off the field antics. For me, he's one of the most talented football player I've seen. Thank's for the discussion ...

What you have to do with rashford which would be groundbreaking, is put him on a performance contract … if he performs like he is now then he should get the big bucks, but if his form goes back to how it’s been for the best part of 3/4 years then he should get a regular capped wage. This could set precedent over all clubs and stop these players dropping off when they hit the big time 💰💰

The way to secure contract renewals, without breaking club pay structures, is paying a separate loyalty bonus to those players who agree to re-sign, rather than leaving. Consider how much United will have to pay to replace Rashford if he leaves on a free. North of £100 million. Pay Marcus a £25m re-sign fee and £250k a week. He's a £100m player. Economically, it's an absolute no brainer and a model that can be replicated to one degree or another, with every player whose contract is coming to an end.

I agree with a lot of opinions of Steve but I havent known anyone more biased and sometime borderline hate for certain players , hence Harry Pinero is a refreshing change. Steve have compared Ole's man management with Sir Alex management , which i think is the biggest disrespect to Sir Alex. Ole was one reason for one of the most entitled dressing room. Martial came out to tell how he was being forced to play with injury and because of that he haven't recovered but Ole never brought it up and that gave a lot of people to hate on Martial. Actually Steve have said once when Martial was on a good run and was scoring goals, he said he is not happy with Martial's output and what not, and now just recently he said Rashford may have not so good numbers in other aspect but what matters is goals. Even blind person can see the bias by Steve. I think he doesn't get called out often. Thanks for bringing in Harry. Also Joel - you are epitome of deluded arsenal fan, one good season and you are saying that Partey is better than Casemiro, same Casemiro who have won 5 CL with top notch contributions on winning it. Almost all the stats Casemiro outdo Partey but you say Partey is better than Casemiro. For all deluded arsenal fans we are comparing two players Casemiro and partey not two clubs so who won what with this club shouldnt be a question and if we are comparing clubs then well Arsenal and ManUtd are not even comparison.
@dafunkyshit
@dafunkyshit Жыл бұрын
Any Arsenal fan that thinks Partey is better than Casemiro is utterly deluded. Just because your team is 1st in the league doesn't automatically mean every single player is the best in the league. All you need to do is look up the stats on fbref. Almost every stat that is compiled there shows that Casemiro has been better than Partey in the Premier League. The only ones Partey outperforms Casemiro in is in certain passing metrics like progressive passing and pass completion percentage, and I think he dribbles the ball a bit more frequently per 90. Every single other metric, which includes all the defensive metrics (tackles, interceptions, blocks, clearances, aerials won, ball recoveries), plus goal output, assist output, expected assists, expected goals, goal-contribution actions, shot-contribution actions, passes into the final third, crosses into the box are all favoured to Casemiro.

Ability-wise, Zlatan is a top 5 striker of all time. Insane technique and skill, especially for a man his size. Scored goals everywhere, won trophies everywhere, a joy to watch. People use the fact that he didn't win a UCL against him, but I don't care. Neither did R9 or Maradona. He's better than 90% of the strikers that have actually won the UCL, so it doesn't matter to me. That's more circumstance and luck than anything else, and teams win UCL trophies, not individuals. I'm not saying he's in the top 5 forwards ever, but his ability, longevity, trophy cabinet, professionalism, fitness, goalscoring record and the fact that he did it in pretty much every top league in Europe puts him in the top 15-20, easy. There's man out there that actually think Harry Kane is better than Ibra....hahahaha. I don't know what the fella in the middle is talking about when he says the teams were successful without him because they were successful with him, too. Diego Milito and Eto'o won the UCL with Inter, but are they greater Inter players than Zlatan? No. No one remembers Milito lol. Like I said, it's more circumstance and luck than anything else. Zlatan never got to play with a team that competed for Champions Leagues for more than 3 or 4 seasons in his career. If he didn't leave Barca because of Pep, and instead stayed one more season, he would have his UCL winners medal and no one would say jack. People need to stop looking at numbers so much and look at the actual player and his impact.

As a liverpool fan, the dip is multiple things has klopp made some silly decisions, yes, but what manager doesn't. But if liverpool are generating the second most in the prem as reported and we are only getting somewhere like 200 mill to 300 mill do us for 3 years 4 years espicially with inflation its impossible we need to to be getting near enough that almost every summer at this point.

Genuine question for Joel, who would you rather have in that Arsenal team right now for the rest of the season, Partey or Casemiro?
