Hello everyone
Its crazy how even Mexicans in the US struggle with this topic. Some never visit again because of the media and what it tells them. I always tell them it never the way the TV describes mexico. of course there is some sketchy areas that I will never enter or wonder in. I woulndt do that in many places in the US.
I went to school in down town Guadalajara I walked a few miles a day just to get to schoo through the entire plaza tapatia. I hanged out there had fun ate food , took the bus back home, about a 20 min ride, public transportation. I really never worried about the things the US brings up on the news, to this day I feel the same way.
I know this is a short clip and it might not remove all your fears about visiting and living in mexico but I hope it helps a bit.
God bless

Great video Vic. It's like anything else. There are parts you wouldn't want to be at at any time of the day or night. Very dangerous barrios that I actually lived in . Same goes with the U.S. Lot's of neighborhoods where no time of the day is safe. But like someone else already mentioned in the comments, it's less likely that your gonna randomly get caught up in a violent situation in Mexico like you would in the U.S. On the same token, there are times where I feel very safe in my neighborhood in the states. True, their is violence in Mexico, but not to the extremes the US media and some stupid right wing politicians would have you believe....(and I'm a conservative, just not an extreme one). Sadly, many people have bought into this narrative and just spout whatever they're made to believe. The same people that have probably never even been to Mexico other than some border town. Thanks for this video Vic. Keep it up.

I live in San Jacinto, California and I was visiting Zapopan in Jalisco and stayed with relatives there. We aren’t in the downtown area and kinda seems like more like a town? My Spanish isn’t perfect so when I was told these stories, I may be slightly inaccurate in some details when recounting them maybe? I think I got the main points across and stuffs though. I wrote a lot so hopefully I don’t have many grammar errors or accidentally use the wrong words and stuffs. Yesterday I was told that my two cousins and some friends were driving out at night time I think and apparently they arrived at a speed bump before someone else or something like that and the car that didn’t get to the speed bump first got to the side of them and pulled out a gun. The driver didn’t notice but one of my cousins noticed the gun and immediately told the driver to go backwards (my cousin only noticed the gun because they weren’t doing anything else like using their phone, reading, something, etc. and if it weren’t for that they might have been shot.) I think they told me that the driver hesitated a little bit because there were cars behind him but he went backwards anyways to avoid being to the side of the car with the gun. My cousin then told the driver to turn around and drive the opposite direction of the car with the gun and they did that. The guy with the gun then turned around as well and started chasing them with the car. They were able to out run them because they believed the other car got a stoplight and cars were passing or something like that. They were all safe and unharmed. A few days ago my aunt told my mom, who told me me, that a few years ago from now there was a safe house somewhat near them where they found some captives and dead people and I think they told me that they maybe got taken or kidnapped or something like that. I don’t remember if I was told that this (A safe house being found near them) happened two times or just once but yee. They also told my mom that a few years ago, everyone was sleeping in the house (me and my parents weren’t there, but my grandma was) and out of nowhere they start hearing gun shots out of like an automatic rifle or something, and they heard someone screaming to help them. All my relatives were unharmed but if they heard gunshots and screaming it was definitely near by. They called the emergency number and hopefully they were able to help the poor person but yee. Where we are, it is also more likely that people will run you over if you aren’t careful in the street. My parents once told me this story about how they were trying to help my great grandmother cross the street but this car was driving and it didn’t appear to slow down or anything so they had to hurry her off of the street otherwise they would have run them over. This other time I was in Tijuana and there was a taxi on the middle lane of the road and we were talking to the taxi near the stoplight when it was red and then the light turned green and the cars went even though me and my mom were still next to the taxi and out on the street and one car’s side mirror almost hit me. Im unsure that if the car’s mirror would have hit me, if it would have been enough to have knocked me down and caused me to get ran over by the cars behind him at that speed or not. Where I live in the US, if I was in that same situation, the cars definitely would have waited and not moved until we got in the taxi. It also seems that people in motorcycles can be more reckless and may try to dangerously weave in and out of traffic and squeeze through narrow spots. Or dangerously switch lanes and stuff. One of my relatives said that they don’t seem to respect the drivers in cars so you may want to watch out for those guys Other things to watch for is that like in the US there may be people trying to scam you by faking injuries but they will also try to scam you in other ways too. When we got to the airport in Mexico (a few weeks ago) we went to the first money exchange thingy we saw and they were offering 13 pesos per dollar (at the time it was 17 pesos per dollar and now it’s 16.75 on google) and it seems like they are trying to rip tourists off who don’t know the value of pesos and stuffs and then later on we found a much better deal at 15 pesos per dollar which was a much better deal. They probably don’t trade at the exact value of dollars to pesos because they have to earn money somehow but you definitely have to be careful about stuff like that. There was also a time (Or maybe a few times and I forgot about the other occasions) where we went to a taxi and they gave us the price in pesos and my mom asked how much that would be in dollars and I don’t remember the exact value but my mom said he lied about how much dollars that would be in pesos and gave a higher price than he initially offered in pesos. He was hoping we didn’t notice that the amount of pesos he was asking, was not equal to the amount of dollars that he said it was worth. Of course, this place isn’t all doom and gloom and there are a lot of beautiful things about here like more food options, and other stuffs that everyone else has said. I knew this place could be dangerous like the stuff with cars but I didn’t know there would (although probably rarely) be some people with guns and stuffs. Some places will be less or more dangerous than others of course.

I’ve been here in downtown Guadalajara for three weeks with no issues, but as a white guy, I’ve been warned over and over not to walk around at night. I’ve mostly taken that advice because everyone says it. I’m also the only white person here in the historic district, and I've loved how people only speak Spanish here. No one bothers me except beggars, and when I speak Spanish, the smiles are amazing!

Hello I am disabled and in a wheelchair, I have seen you building houses and was wondering, since it's so difficult to find wheelchair accessible housing, is there a way to do wheelchair accessible housing without the huge price tag that I have seen over there, I find it highly unfair that the housing market for wheelchairs is extremely expensive just because I need a ramp or wheelchair lift, some of us like me don't have the money for it but need most of the things involved, I have seen housing where everything is smaller for the wheelchair user and it had elevators but it was extremely expensive because of the area it was in, I would just like a simple house where my wife and I can live where things aren't too steep or expensive and I can feel some independence so my wife doesn't have to work so hard to help take care of me, I have been praying for the right words and also hope this finds you in the shalom of YAH.

@@yeshuaismyredeemer My wife and I are looking to move over to Mexico due to my deteriorating health, we have been looking at housing for the past few years and praying that ADONAI would guide us and provide for us as always, we want a house that is wheelchair accessible and from what we have seen most of them are super expensive, we would like to buy a house but we are on the poor side of things, I am losing my health due to the food and I am praying for a miracle, we have been looking all over Mexico for housing but ultimately would like to live in a more wheelchair friendly place where we can live in shalom, we would like to either build or replace certain things in some of the houses we have already seen but I would prefer a custom build, unfortunately for me they seem super expensive.

If you want to make people feel at ease, tell them about all the cámaras in the area that you were in. Plus the offices of el pelón are right there. Try something stupid anywhere in that area and you will be swarmed by armed men super quick. The only thing that I will say is that if you are walking downtown Guadalajara very late at night, stay on the well lit streets. Like any big city, walk down a dark ally and you just might find some ladrones. Otherwise the worst thing is walking past some drugged out kids or some homeless people on the street. But not to worry, Guadalajara has people out every morning early cleaning up the streets and human poop that you may come across.

I think you bring up a very important question. I think it’s something I should have talked about. Although there is many woman that walk alone at night, and seems to be safe, I still don’t think it’s that safe for woman to walk alone. I don’t know if it me or genuinely unsafe. I have 4 daughters. I feel this way in the states as well. But in Mexico I think it’s a bit more unsafe for woman to walk alone. However if woman are in groups my safety concerns are lessened by a lot. I always have my daughter walk or hang out together. Maybe the best judge for this will be a woman in Mexico.
