Elections are weeks away in India and opposition parties are attempting to take on the seemingly unstoppable juggernaut of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is seeking a third consecutive term.
The opposition claims that Modi’s success rate has very little to do with his governance - but more because scores of his political rivals have been arrested or charged on questionable grounds. They say it has kneecapped the opposition and gamed the political arena in favour of the governing party.
In this episode of The India Report, Sreenivasan Jain examines whether these actions are - as the Prime Minister claims - part of his crusade against high-level corruption, or an unprecedented campaign against of the opposition which is deeply dangerous to India’s democracy.

As an Indian, my concern is more about India and its declining democracy rather than about a news channel in other country and that country's governance system. There is a grain of truth in what Srinivas is reporting. Ruling party, with the abuse of State agencies, is trying to eliminate its political rival parties. This is unacceptable.

I haven't had much time to watch Al Jazeera recently, but I've really been missing the EPIC NDTV anchors, especially Sreenivasan and Ravish Kumar. It's great to see Sreenivasan on Al Jazeera; his reporting is always top-notch.

Does it is ok that a Arabic students give advice to English student about Tense and it's types although he himself doesn't know it profoundly. Modi himself was many a time arrested , but never proved guilty in the court. So does democracy dead that time too. And if was not dead that time, then how come this time, if out of 5 or 6 prominent opposition parties, if one party leader was only arrested( and not convicted) can end the democracy in India. Wait for the court to Decide. Germany started giving advice to India. Does they do the same with USA. It is clearly that they want to show their parentalism behaviour to India which I guess they require. And mind u, if he was innocent, then it will only take few days to prove his innocence

So Aljajeera had time to come to Kolkata but didn't have the time to report the Sandeshkhali incident where TMC Muslim leader Sheikh Shahajan was accused of institutionalising molestation against women in that district. I am from Bengal and TMC is possibly the most corrupt party in India. The former education minister Partha Chatterjee went to jail for a teacher recruitment scam after 20 crores of cash was discovered from his house. This party also notoriously captured polling stations and killed Congress, BJP & CPIM(left) workers in 2021. This is shameless journalism.
