Is Modifying Your Suspension Really Worth It???

In today's video we are going to tell you everything you need to know about modifying your truck's suspension. We will be going over all the custom work, pros & cons of each, test driving, and lastly towing capacity. For customization to the lowered truck we added a Belltech Performance Coilover lowering kit, Nitto 420V tires, 20 inch Forgestar wheels, and a MBRP Catback exhaust. For the lifted truck we added BDS 4” lift kit with FOx Rear shocks, 37 inch Nitto tires, and 20” Method racing wheels! Onto the pros and cons of a lowered vs lifted truck. Cons for a lifted truck include roof clearance, higher center of gravity, and fuel economy will be slightly lower. For the pros of a lifted truck, it looks EPIC and the upgraded tires are better for off roading performance. For a lowered truck it's the opposite. You get a better center of gravity and better gas mileage. We took both of these trucks on the same driving route and the lifted truck got 19.56 MPG and the lowered truck got 22 MPG which is not that drastic of a difference. We also weighed both of these vehicles with the lowered truck weighing 4,320 and the lifted weighing 4,880.

I'd love to see a 0-60 time between the 2 trucks. Stalk for stalk just pure suspension to see how that is affected as well. Besides that you answered alot of questions I had. Thank you for the awesome video!

I don’t know why but, when I saw the lifted black truck, I thought of the “Fall Guy” truck from the early 1080’s. That was one of my most favorite trucks. One cool setup on that black truck.

Biggest difference going from a leveled f150 to a maverick is how easy to access the bed. I usually dont used the bed of f150 for groceries etc just because how hard to reach in and trust me, they will roll to the very front.😅 I found myself using the bed of maverick a lot more. Probably also because i don't have a huge super crew back seat like the f150

The fuel consumption difference is roughly 10%. That over a year is a lot. You would be delighted if Ford upgraded their engines and improved economy by that amount.

@tccustoms Can you improve water fording just by installing a lift kit like that BDS?

Yes. When doing a lift kit, you are increasing the height of the engine, trans, transfer case, etc. which will increase the water fording capability

The lowered truck will get slightly etter mpg. But youd lose all the savings in the work done. The lift will atleast allow you to get over larger obstacles. Also lowered truck cant haul as heavy due to clearance under load being to low. Unless you want to ride around on blocks of steel for suspension.

There’s different levels of lowered. Mild, moderate, and extreme. Extremely lowered is where the wheels are halfway covered by the fender wells. I think that is dumb. I personally wouldn’t do moderate lowered. I do mild lowered with at least a 2 inch bigger rim from factory rims, where I still have clearance to pull a trailer if needed. It takes out that hideous factory look and makes it even on the front and the back.

I use my F-150 for towing a 6,300 lb travel trailer. I don't see any benefit to changing the factory engineered payload or GCWR to have a “cool” looking truck. I bought it for what it can do.

I see plenty of people on the forums who have lowered their truck and tow similar things without issue. May necessitate airbags to keep the rear from squatting but other than that many are still happy with the capabilities of the lowered truck.

Okay did I miss something are they both four-wheel drive? Are they both same engine? Are they both final drivetrain ratio? What exactly is the comparison?

Everything is the same with one exception. The lifted truck is 4x4. The lowered truck is 2wd. Both vehicles have 5.0L. Both vehicles have 3.73 gears. Both vehicles have identical OEM options.

The lifted truck mpg won't be accurate because you did not recalibrate the speedometer for tire size

Because it’s better in every way. Try it out. Don’t do a full squat. Do a mild lowering and put at least 2 inches bigger rims on than the factory rims. If you still prefer lifted after doing that, then you have something wrong with you.

I know my F-150’s AFE bias was off by some margin from the factory. I had to change it down since it typically read near 2mpg better than what a fill up showed.

Trucks are getting pretty tall these days from the factory. I put 2wd front shocks on my 4wd model to lower the front down about an inch or so, and removed the block in the rear for easier bed access. Still hauls and tows normally and I can still clear most pavement related things as mine doesn’t often see dirt.

100% lowered all the way. It just rides better lowered. My friend has a lifted truck and I cannot stand riding in that pavement princess jerk your neck off your shoulders while hitting bumps truck.

No good information provided. Is it worth it to lift a truck? Don't watch this video because they'll just confuse you. More like an ad than an informational video.
