HP I always like what you do. I like the HX stomp with pancake plugs. I also like it at the top of the board with to straight plugs to speakers. I also like my TIMELINE to the right of the HX STOMP and BigSky to the left bottom row on my pedal board has a MIDI switcher and 3 dirt pedal and a mini EXP pedal. The form factor of this is to big and its nice as a stand alone with maybe a Looper pedal. LOVE YOUR WORK you are great keep up the good work.

Great overview, as always! It's true - you can get great sounds out of it, and the presets suck. The HX Stomp IS my pedal board. :) I do send patch changes to it over MIDI, though, so I don't need the extra switches, but for those who do, this version is cool. The lockable volume knob on the back is an improvement. I think having this as a Stomp alternative was a great idea.

Great video!!! Line 6 is has admitted they made a mistake with the pod go with some units being shipped out. The QC has not been good with a certain batch that was shipped out. Line 6 is refusing to rectify the situation, and wants to charge me more to fix the the defects in the product they were initially responsible for. I was told all the issues I've described were "known" issues with some units that have been shipped out. They said they would remedy this if I was not at fault for any damages which they know I am not. This makes me want to avoid line 6 and switch to a competitive brand. That is unless they choose to rectify their mistake. Thanks for the video.

It's clearly not for everyone, but it's a great solution if you need a Stomp and a midi switcher on your pedalboard. I recently started using my standard Stomp to control my 200 series Boss pedals via midi and the extra switches of the XL would hugely expand the capabilities of this setup. BTW, really looking forward to a review of that Harmony guitar. Looks sweet.

The HX Stomp is £399 most places. The XL appears to be between £639-£679. Unless it comes down it is way overpriced for a few extra switches

I just love the regular HX stomp on my board as my virtual amp+cab when playin on headphones but also as a multieffect platform + HoTone FS-1 Ampreo switch directly in my tube amp... Henning, in the beginning of your video you are talking about a video you saw someone programmed the irridium into the HX stomp. Could you tell me please which video is that?

I am fine with what the HX stomp using a mission foot switch and a pinstripe DISO. I also use the wireless Bluetooth adapter with an ipad that gives me even more control. the form factor is PERFECT for my needs. With the 3.0 firmware update, just wish we had more DSP power…

I came onto this vid in a gas attack, I wanted to see if the XL was more powerful, more DSP but I think it's the same... I'm sure I'm using my hx stomp as a noob 😅 but since I got a couple of switches to change my in song sound (lead, boost, dist etc) and the n3 for preset up, I added a 2 ext switch controller for n4 tuner and n2 preset down and I can use all my setlist in this way (which I make with literally 5 patches), this video clarified me i didn't need to go bigger

As a guy who isn't allergic to technology messin' wit our guitars (or nostalgic enough to be a gatekeeper of the valve - specially since there are SO MANY OF Y'ALL OUT THERE there's no way neither vintage hand made old school valve amplification nor old school analog effects are going anywhere) i'm... kinda sold? the full helix is very costly, as is the axe fx. i knew about The HX Stomp but, much like Henning explained, i was one of those who wasn't fully sold, maybe the lack of buttons made me immediatly think of less options. i went out looking for the Fractal AM3 a.k.a. the smaller AxeFx (later Neural came along with their futuristic floor unit thingy, but that one i did not fully understand?) but who would've thought that a couple more buttons just sold me on going back to saving up for the HX Stomp XL. Plus that "connect it to the fx loop and use your valve power amp" aspect got me thinkin' of some ideas. Cool review and even cooler sweater, Mr. Pauly.

I added a small midi control to the HX Stomp but is not so easy to navigate so the XL makes sense.

They should of added an analog amp channel switcher like the HX effects.

If you really need that, I'm sure there are some MIDI-controlled channel switchers that you could use to control your analog amp from the Stomp (XL).

I get what you are saying but, with 4 snapshots, it is literally not the same software… ;) That being said, I’d expect the forthcoming 3.1 update will bring 4 snapshots to the regular HX Stomp.

Ok.. you are my go to guy on gear and guitars etc.. And I'm in need of a smaller portable processor. I travel w/ work a lot and I've been using Amplitube since Amplitube 3, but I'm tired of carrying my laptop, interface etc... Just looking for something that doesnt' take up as much space.. How does this compare to Headrush gigboard and how does this sound directly through headphones?

That unit has some fine DNA but no Expression pedal??? I guess that’s out the back panel ( or a pod go). Oh the big helix is on my dream gear list. Tiny touch screen training for fat finger freaks available soon from a lesson site near you. Noodle is awesome 👏🏽 🐩

Since I already had a Morningstar Midi Controller for my Axe FX. SO, the XL didn't make sense. The 'baby' HX Stomp did.

Couple questions. Can you make a bass sound like an octave up or like a 12-string bass like Jermey from Pearljam , also can you detune a specific string like drop the E string to D ?

but.... if the XL is 150€ more... its about ~700-720€... why not get the HX LT for 800€ or invest 1000€ in a used full hx, where you can you can use the full processing power?

My #1 problem with the Line 6 gear is the difficulty getting amps dialed in. The Iridium is not only simple, but it only has a few knobs and you’re done. The fact that there’s and entire cottage industry around building patches says a lot.

Good point. Really comes down to what type of gearhead you are though. If you like to spend a lot of time tone tweaking then the Stomp is a great choice.

Was the hardest sound he played a preset or his own creation? Because it sounded digital and basically sucked. Don't know if the unit is capable for lively classic metal sounds like Friedman, hot rodded Bogner or JCM800 stuff`? Think of John Sykes or Jake E. Lee leadtone.

I still live like in the 19th century using my pod hd500. The time has come to get a new board and one if the main question for me is can you set bpm in delay mode? Like when I need 82 bpm quarter note delay I don’t wanna be trying to foot tap it. So, does this new stomp xl has it?

as a helix floor and stomp owner... I think this device is a marketing disaster... if your going to make a perfectly good product twice as big, maybe even twice as heavy idk... why not give it an extra DSP? Yamaha should hire me as a marketing and design guy... the first thing i would do is ask them for two more hands.... so i could give that idea .... "4 thumbs down!".....

When you can get a Boss Gt1000core for the same price, which has all the power of a Boss GT1000 and has 24 blocks and some super dooper advanced amp modelling tech..then I have to say..you would be daft to get one of these things. 8 blocks man.

Boss GT-series have sucked since time began, and will continue to suck. I have no horse in the stompbox-thing race, but I would never get another boss object that does more than one thing, aside from maybe a Katana.

I’m looking for a modeler but I’m not sure which one is best for me. I use a Marshall DSL20 combo, and I want something that I can use effects with, as well as sometimes bypass the preamp of my real amp and use models of other amps with the cabs off. Is this what I’m looking for or should I go for something else?

I've been playing with my Helix Stomp again for the last couple days. Most annoying interface ever. Great for routing stuff and static snapshots I guess but my blood pressure climbs trying to get it setup and I get frustrated. Back on the shelf it goes, sadly the new one doesn't sound like it makes sense for me.

I don’t understand why line6 would really put out a product like this. Doesn’t this render the pod go basically useless 😂. Like the hx stomp xl can do more and is pretty close to the same price as a pod go. So unless u really want an expression pedal on your unit does it even make sense to buy the pod go anymore?

My only thing with this is there isn’t xlr outs I use the big boy helix and it makes no since not to have xlr on the hx

It has balanced outputs, you can get XLR outs just using TRS2XLR cable. Unfortunately it hasn't ground lift function, thats why I use it with DI box. But even with DI box it's smaller and lighter than big brother.

Exhasperated sigh, comedy raised eyebrow.. sorry line 6 it’s not for me, I think I’ll keep investing in companies like morning star and other small companies who have been generating a small income by manufacturing solutions for the original hx stomp, I happen to like there inelegant solitons. Appreciate the sarcastic blurb as I am sure do they. , really glad henning was honest and read that. Man it must be tough having customers who believe in your product and have invested in your concept and platforms, then you have to listen to them when they try and explain that some of them don’t understand the design decisions you made. Hopefully neural and potentially universal audio, kemper ... this list goes on will be more patient with there customers, moving forward
