Short answer: Yes Long answer: Yes, it is.

Short answer: yes. Long answer: yes but side order is still really good.

I love both DLCs, and while overall, I think Octo Expansion is slightly better than Side Order due to the story being more meatier, I feel like this comparison is unfair due to 1: them having different subgenres and 2: the era they were made in! 1: Octo Expansion is a collection of challenges, while Side Order needs to be a bit more linear due to its rogue-lite nature. While I wished Side Order had more color chips that would heavily alter a weapon, I feel like comparing it to OE is unfair due to them being different genres and kind of game mode, making their respective gameplay loops different from each other. 2: Octo Expansion came out at a time where the story modes weren't great and lacked innovation, so it set the bar significantly higher. Same thing happened with people's expectations, so Side Order [and to an extent, ROTM] may have felt underwhelming as some people felt like it had to do it WAY better than OE.

My opinion (feel free to roast me): Not even close. Long Answer: Side Order felt underwhelming and undercooked. It's fun and a step in a unique direction, but is way too repetitive for a Rouge-like. Dialogue starts repeating way too soon, the story was frankly just kinda bad (Order sucks as a villain, the Dev Logs have the same issues as the Alterna Logs, and lack of proper characterization for 8), the actual level settings were bland (Don't give me the "It's supposed to be bland" just because things are black and white doesn't mean the level settings have to be dull). Several elements felt like last-minute additions, such as the shop, keys, and Final Pallette, and on top of that a good 70% of the levels are just plain boring. There's a couple good unique ones, but the limited goals and most levels just being copy/pasted in different modes sucks. It felt more like a proof-of-concept than an actual full campain to me. Pros: Music, Acht is decent, bosses are pretty fun. Good diversification to gameplay. I hate saying this because I was HYPED for Side Order, hell I already 100%'d it, but it's a downright disapointment compaired to Octo Expansion. That's not to say I hated it, I enjoyed it still, but I very marginally prefer Alterna over this too (which has very similar problems to Side Order unfortunately)

I really disagree with the bosses. Octo expansion bosses are not good at all compare to side order. That opinion is really base on yourself. Everyone else has fun with the bosses.

according to InkPedia, Agent 8 are 14 in Octo Expansion and 19 In Side Order. (AND PEARL IS 26 IN SIDE ORDER WTH)

Both are pretty forgettable in my opinion but octo expansion has a little more impact. And certainly wasnt backed by nearly 2 years of hype(Not on my part) that it didnt live up to

It is… but it’s also not. Because imo side order has better enemies, better bosses and better gameplay then octo expansion. But I will admit that octo expansion’s story was a lot better than side order’s. but honestly octo expansion and side order are both amazing DLC’s but side order would probably be better if it wasn’t a rouge-like.
