I recommend you to read one piece and not watch the anime. The manga is 1091 chapters and the anime is 1074 episodes. Which means it has bad phasing and tons of fillers. The Manga is the best thing out there while the anime is a huge disappointment except for some great highlights.

That is the beauty of Oda's vision for the One Piece live action. He said himself that this was for the people who don't have the time to read the manga or watch the anime. This is a gem for One Piece fans old and new, and as a long time One Piece fan I'm glad to see both mediums together and enjoy the live adaptation that broke the curse.

I was always of the opinion that live action adaptation were pointless. How could they meaningfully diverge from the anime without becoming a worse version? One Piece changed my mind. This series has been going for 30 years. The author and story is different now. This adaptation allows them to rewrite and condense this massive story into its most important elements.

Love how they fell in love with Zoro so fast without even seeing him go all out yet. This is by far the best live action adaptation so far. And to do it in episodes with the very creator saying what changes are allowed and what’s not to keep it as pure as can be. I have tears seeing this and the love that went into it. And it turned out amazing. God if only we got this with the cowboy bebop live action. I would have partied in the street.

I love how you guys immediately got hooked on Luffy’s charm. They did a good job translating his personality and so that made me ecstatic to hear. I agree that if you love pirates, it’s just so fun. I’m so glad you guys found it so compelling right away.

The show has done an amazing job of translating the feel of the manga and anime to live action. Jeff Ward's portrayal of Buggy is awesome and Inaki Godoy so embodies Luffy. The people working on this are all huge fans of the manga, and Emily Rudd who plays Nami cut and dyed her hair to look like Nami once she heard this show was being made because she wanted the role so badly. She's a huge weeb. Also the name of the Marine is Vice Admiral Garp, he mentioned his name when he answered the transponder snail.

I love how the actor who plays Luffy so well that people who have never seen the anime can pick up on how happy and go lucky he is in the anime by the real life actors acting. Just goes to show how good the live action really is.

As someone caught up with the anime and manga and a long time watcher, this adaptation was done WONDERFULLY ❤ the casting was amazing and they really showed the essence of each character 😭😭 it’s such a good choice with how they paced things and also really interesting in how different and similar it is to the anime/manga

I’ve been a huge fan of One Piece for years, been reading weekly as Oda drops chapters for years and I’ve been optimistic about this since I heard about who was in charge and that Oda was involved, so I Binged the live action to show support and can say I genuinely enjoyed every episode, it’s different from the manga and anime but very faithful at the same time and a great new way for people to get involved and invested in this amazing/legendary story.

Thank you for watching it!!! I've seen the anime more times than I'll like to admit in the past 15 years?!?... (when I started watching it) I'm 3 episodes in and I think it is amazing! The anime and manga currently in the 1000's so it's obviously not going to be a 1:1 adaptation. So far it has kept the tone, heart and soul of the source material. Seen someone watching it without manga or anime reference is just great as I was not sure if I was just biased from excitement and the cast been so nice in/out the series.

Great reaction, you guys! Thanks so much for enjoying this version of my absolute favourite anime series of all time! Please don't feel badly about making this adaptation your first experience of "One Piece". From what I've seen of the Netflix series so far, it's doing justice to the manga and anime. Despite the various alterations to the storyline, it's staying very true to the spirit of Oda-sensei's story, and his characters. Although, knowing what's coming, I can't help but wonder how they're going to depict all that wild and crazy stuff in live action. Nami's outfit hasn't been altered. What you see is her original style of dress, pretty much exactly as it appeared in the opening of the manga and anime. She doesn't switch to the bikini top until much later in her career. Looking forward to the next with bated breath!

From what I heard, the creator of the manga (not the anime) not only had creative direction on the story, he had full and final authority on casting the main characters (the ones on Luffy's crew).

I love the set, the cgi and the fight choreography. The dialogue doesnt hit sometimes as much as the anime but its a solid first episode. It has the potential to be one of the best live action adaptation ever

Whoa I didn't expected you guys to do it, the anime is amazing, the only bad part is the pacing, they try to not get too close of the manga material so its kinda slow, the show did a good job in mixing everything in a good pace! But besides that I think the anime is still worthy to watch because of so many reasons, anyways.. glad you guys enjoy it, you have no idea, the world building, storyline and mysteries around this.. it have really good comedy and approach alot of mature topics at the same time, my favorite piece of fiction ever.

Your reaction is a perfect example of why it is so important to actually care about the source material for the show that's being made. Even without watching the anime, you were able to tell just how much heart and soul was put into this adaptation. The creator handpicked the actors and it really shows. I think for a new fan, the twists and turns and being introduce to the characters first hand is a really nice experience. But for one piece fans the nostalgia of getting experience their firsthand introduction to the world of one piece once more in a different take and getting all the hints and Easter eggs the production has scattered around the show is also a great experience .

Yeah I think this is the best show on Netflix right now. And is faithful to the One Piece manga/anime (the Creator of the One Piece had to approve everything, so you know this is going to be good.) All of the outfits, including Nami’s and everybody else’s their outfits are all canon and things they wore in the story. Also, this show has a higher budget than game of thrones per episode. Best Netflix show of this year

So glad to see non-fans reacting so I know how people feel about it without the bias I had going into it. Personally I loved it but I also felt much more connected to the moments and characters than you would so I can't tell how hard the big moments really hit and whatnot. oh and btw Nami's outfits match her outfits in the anime. It's not until way later that she starts wearing the bikini top.

Honestly I think this is probably the best way to get people into the series. As much as I love the anime it takes a long time to really wrap most people in. It's good from the get-go, but slow paced and the early episodes lack a lot of what makes it so good later on. I am really looking forward to not having to tell people to give it a chance up until episode 45 because that's when it REALLY gets good. I don't think this is as good in the best moments as the equivalent anime/manga parts, but it's good enough to get people interested for sure.

This might be controversial to some, but I think I had more fun and enjoyment from these episodes than start of anime episodes the story belong to. Maybe seeing the characters I love interacting in another way makes it more fun but frankly uptil 2 episodes I am having a blast. BTW its also more adult version of One piece.

It's not that controversial. The manga/anime started when Oda was still a brand new writer and artist. It's only natural that after so many years he can come up with a better way to start the story without losing any of the main bits.

"BTW its also more adult version of One piece" Yes, kind of, but the main point is being a lot less exaggerated, which is VITAL if you want a live adaptation to work. And most people (also a huge portion of the fans as I see) said it is very good in its own frame.

The world of One Piece is a character, difficult for us manga readers to gain this living world. The live action is a good reus of the 1st arc of the series in the manga.

It was fantastic! I have been reading the manga for like 15 years and this was so well done. There are some small gripes overall and some things I wish they did differently but really just drops in the water for how much I loved this.

Don't worry, One Piece fans wants to see reactions from not One Piece fans too. If you want to watch the anime it will only take you a year to catch up depends on your speed.

I had doubts after the Cowboy Bebop remake, but having Ian McShane alone as the narrator was a huge plus. Also, Luffy’s actor being a fan of Oda’s work is also a massive step in the right direction.

There are a lot of changes here in the live action but it suits really well for an 8 episode series. The pacing is also much better than the anime. I like it a lot. I am glad that this live action did justice and fulfilled the purpose of attracting new viewers.

@@whasiannate I think edge of tomorrow based on light novel, not manga. Alita live action was american production if i'm not mistaken. And i haven't watch drops of god. But what i mentioned is japanese production. One Piece live action is Japanese/british production even they don't speak japanese. Also Eichiro Oda in it.

@@whasiannate One Piece live action is produced by Kaji production, Tomorrow studios, and shueisha. it's Japanese and British. I mean is, One piece live action don't speak Japanese, but it's made by Japanese/British production. The movie or series that I mentioned, Japan took part in making it. But Edge of tomorrow, i didn't mentioned it because japan didn't took part in making it. Is not it? Sorry if my English is not understandable, I'm from Indonesia, btw.

I did the same thing, I just watched the whole season today in one sitting, never seeing it in any other media. I think that gives the viewer a more open mind because I'm not worried about trivial details like a voice, hair, clothes, are which storylines they follow or omit. Having said that, I really did enjoy the story, action scenes, character designs, and pacing. I'll def be tuning in for season 2 and beyond!

for us one piece fans this adaptations is a 10/10 not because it doesn't have flaws, it has a lot of them, but it has so much good that it doesn't matter that much

What's good about it? Everything is off even tho they almost matched the looks. It's just cosplay and bad acting. It would be good if they actually followed source material and had better acting. Lol Oh well.

Not really versed in anime beyond Studio Ghibli and Last Airbender, but after watching your channel for a while, your love of anime is apparent and infectious. Love your reactions to movies and series I've seen - always insightful and entertaining. I need to start watching some anime so that I can watch your past reactions. I just watched the whole thing and even someone like me who already knows what happened and already in the latest anime episodes kinda wanted to go back to the earlier episodes for a refresher i think most of the ones who never watched the anime would certainly be curious enough to finally try it
