Started learning last week. I think polish is the most beautiful language in the world so to me personally, it is worthy the challenge regardless how hard it is

my Polish mom failed to teach me and my siblings Polish while growing up but i think i will finally learn it for her. maybe travel there again in the future. she took me and my sister to Poland to see our family there not too long ago and we met 2 different types of people. 1 kind kept telling me i should know Polish or should have learned it by now, and the other couldn’t understand why i would want to learn Polish of all languages. thank you for these videos they really help!

As a Ukrainian-learner who grew up in a russian speaking household I quite obviously find lots of these stuff (grammar, vocabulary, sounds) very similar and familiar - yet at the same time different, unique and most certainly - fascinating! English is also difficult. For example, to make the plural of 'woman', you change the 'a' to an 'e' - 'women'. But the only change to the sound of the word is in the first vowel, the 'o' which has remained an 'o'. So you change one vowel, but it is the unchanged vowel which is pronounced differently. Crazy!

Because of this video I am excited to learn Polish. I speak German fluently. I was born there and went to school there to grade 3. My parents were American German language professors. I have Multiple Sclerosis so I have been trying to exercise my brain. Because of German I understand genders of nouns which aren't in English and German has very long words at times and pronunciation of the language seems difficult for English speakers. I don't have that problem. So I've been looking for a challenge which I think I've definitely found. I loved your explanation of the language and am looking forward to it. I've been to a few European countries but not Poland, so why Polish? I was watching Squared Love ,a fun movie, on Netflix for the second time when it occurred to me that I love the sound of Polish. That is important when learning a language I think. So yes this will probably be extremely difficult, but I'm looking forward to it! Thank you so much for providing these lessons. Hopefully I won't be your worst student, but nobody will know..🙂

Język polski ma prawdopodobnie najtrudniejszą gramatykę ze wszystkich znanych języków. Posiada on tak dużo czasów, przypadków, aspektów, form, sygnatur, rodzajów, trybów i stron, że można zwariować od samej wiedzy o ich istnieniu. Co więcej, każdy czas, osoba itd. posiada inną odmianę czasownika. Jestem całkowicie przekonany, że nawet jeśli prawie wszyscy Polacy potrafią je odmienić, mało kto będzie w stanie powiedzieć ile ich jest bez kilku minut zastanowienia. Co gorsza, kolejność wyrazów w zdaniu w języku polskim jest zupełnie przypadkowa. Właściwie, wszystkie książki do gramatyki języka polskiego zostały zakazane na całym świecie z powodu wielu, pojawiających się przypadków obłędu, żłobienia oczu i wymiotów na cenne podłogi w księgarniach. Są na świecie tylko dwa kraje w których nie zakazano ich sprzedaży. Węgierski rząd pozwolił sprzedawać książki do gramatyki języka polskiego z powodu podobieństwa języka polskiego do węgierskiego. Dyktator Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe nie ma pojęcia o istnieniu Polski, dlatego nie zakazał ich sprzedaży. Niestety, szaleńcy, którzy chcą zamieszkać w Polsce i zdobyć polskie obywatelstwo muszą przebrnąć przez przynajmniej 42 tomy z podstawami gramatyki języka polskiego. To tłumaczy niezwykle wysoką ilość odmów przyznania polskiego obywatelstwa.

Great video, Pani Monika! The title is perhaps better for the KZfaq algorithm, but it doesn’t do justice to how helpful this video is. It’s an excellent overview of the Polish language that allows learners to know what to expect when studying Polish. Just knowing how the words have different endings or transform is so important because we can realize that these are all just different forms of the same word rather than thinking of them as separate words. Do you do group or private lessons on Zoom/Skype?

As a English person i had to learn about compound words this helped me to understand some of the fundaments and thrn work out the rest i dont think i will ever be able to speak oerfect Polish xx

This was a wonderful lesson, i really appreciate your explanation being simple yet not basic. I had problems with consonants sounding same appearing together, for example - Włocławek, Włochy. Still haven't figured out how to same both letters clearly. Plural numerals is another problem. Nevertheless, your lessons are great and helps a lot!

As a Bulgarian, I completely agree that defining a language as “difficult” to learn is a very flexible definition, because, for example, to me, the hardest thing is the cases, just because in my native language such things do not exist, but everything else is there, which makes it even fun to learn. However, every new language has its challenging aspects but If you are willing to give the maximum, then you can learn anything and in no time. In my country, we say :” If there’s a will, there’s also a way”. (My appeal to everyone not to give up, before they’ve tried only because they’ve heard that it isn’t easy)

Before watching this video, I was approaching this language differently. I've been living in poland for 2 years and, carried some ideas about the language of course. However, those rumors and secondhand thoughts about the language is not true actually. People criticisize Polish mostly for process of changing all words. And for me its the hardest part actually as well. But after learning the rules, as you indicated in the video, its not that much hard. Because the process of itself also contain in different language in a similar way. For example I know Turkish and English and for me, that "cases" thing is kinda similar but in a different way. Verb aspect thing is alike english tense thing but in the sense meaning. After comparing those features with your current knowledge about the languages, the only thing which you need to actually is memorizing and implying the rules to new things. Of course like every language, it has some special things which you need to understand and learn

I have only been learning Polish the past few days and finding it good and enjoyable to be honest. My boyfriend has visited Krakow a few times and can speak troche po polsku. Hope I got that right.🤗. Hope to take a trip over to Krakow next year. Everything takes time to learn but loving it.

Very good summary. But I would add one more difficult feature for English speakers: DIMINUTIVES OF NOUNS. Examples: pies - piesek (dog - little dog) szklanka - szklaneczka (glass [of tea] - little glass) okno - okienko (window - little window)

I'll put it this way for me. I studied a semester of Russian in university. I'm trying to learn Polish now and I find it substantially more difficult than Russian.

I am a native Turkish speaker and I started last week and it isn't that difficult as I tought it was gonna be, it probably has to do with turkish and polish having a lot of similiar sounds to it.

Guess im the only one who find polish not difficult (maybe because of dutch which already has harsh sounds), the only thing for me is writing but thats with every language even my written english is bad 😅🤦‍♂ But polish to me makes sense. It all comes down to certain factors like she said in the beginning, on of them is motivation Its only difficult when you want to be a perfectionist, the goal is to understand and communicate not to be a teacher (unless you ofcourse want to be teacher of other languages then you have to put twice the effort ofcourse) But for the rest of us that just want to talk like with friends etc its not hard, we dont have to push. Gold starts raw and will be polished in the process, thats how i view learning a language.

In German you also could say: "Markus und Anna lieben einander." So the verb isn't at the second position. 🤷🏻‍♂️ In Questions the verb often is at the beginning: "Fahren wir in den Urlaub?", ebenso im Imperativ (Tryb rozkazujący): "Gib mir das Buch!"

All the Slavic languages are hard for people who speak Germanic languages. Polish has the Latin alphabet in it's favour (with some weird dots, apostrophies and squiggles over/under letters) but i'd say it's likely easier than having to learn a Slavic language that uses the Cyrillic alphabet. For someone like me that has only ever known English, Polish words just look like WIFI passwords to me 😆

I think the most difficult thing is "pronunciation" in Polish. If you don't know the words you can not read. It's classic but so correct "sh/ch/j/c sounds all time side by side and this is gettin hard your mouth also 😄
