Paul Kagame, Rwanda’s leader since 1994, is facing only two challengers in the latest presidential election after courts banned his most prominent critics. Yesterday, the "Land of a Thousand Hills" went to the polls to vote for a president who will serve the first five-year term, a shift from the long-standing six-year terms in Rwandan politics. Kagame's reelection could signal political stability for his region but will likely continue to attract global scrutiny due to accusations of human rights abuses and alleged support for rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo-claims he has denied. Today, we delve into the election process and its implications for the East African Community (EAC). In the studio are Tolit Atiya, an analyst and political observer, and Sarah Bireete, a political analyst.

Smart people learn from winning teams, they don't just sit and watch themselves criticize a continuous winner.

You people mind your business, we choose to be united, to protect what we built and we choose to be peaceful, democracy is not abusing each other as we have seen in your Country, it is not destruction of what you build like what is happening in Kenya etc

What is wrong with our analysts? Even those I trust don't seem to be analyzing within the proper context. You can't define democracy solely from an American perspective and then expect to provide a realistic view of Rwanda. Claiming Rwanda is closed is insane! Rwanda has chosen unity over tribalism. If you are an analyst and you conduct your analysis without considering this, then ...you are intentionally misleading people

Sophisticated analysis from highly educated analystists. However, i disagree with you. What is wrong with a candidate scoring 99 or even 100% in a national election? Since that phenomenon is not in theory and has taken place in Rwanda, how about objectively studying it, instead of dismissing it as a fallacy??!! At first, you sounded like real scholars, but later in your debates, your biases sounded contrary. You are the people who suppress the advancement of knowledge!!!

I don't see you guys having in your minds that 99.15 shocking democracy. It's a wrong perception. Remember Rwanda is a unique country for that reason everything is going to be unique to everyone ,especially those who are not Rwandans because you have a wrong definition a bout Rwanda and Rwandans.

Rwandan democracy is the best. Our democracy is not changing leadership. We choose to vote who has some thing to do for us. We know where we come from and where we go. Our choice will not depends on pleasing international community. Our choice will be focusing on the journey to development

I really don't understand the analysis from the two invited guests. Rwanda is Rwanda it has its own way of doing things that shocks other people. Sometimes it is important to know and understand where Rwanda came from and where it is going. Rwanda went through a terrible Genocide against the Tutsi that resulted into the death of 1,000,000 people. The Democracy in Rwanda is unique that is why other people end up saying that it a staged one. Go to Rwanda and reach out to people in all corners of this small nation and ask the citizens why they turned up in such huge numbers to vote for The incumbent president. Democracy in the books don't work for Rwanda, it is home grown solutions that solves the home grown problems. That is Rwanda for you. Analysists can say what they want but can't change the way Rwandans chose to deal with their home affairs. Rwandans chose unity they saw what divisionisms caused 1994. Paul Kagame is loved by almost everybody in Rwanda people in Rwanda have a lot of confidence in his leadership because he fulfills what he promises the people and he does it in time without any biasnes or nepotism.
