Constant chatter floods social media about the uncertain times we are living in-but when is the future ever certain? Instead of worrying about your finances, job security and future plans let's take a look to see what the Bible says about prosperity, faith and kingdom impact.
Charisma News sat down with Senior Leader at Zion Christian Fellowship Jim Baker, to talk about switching your mindsets when it comes to prospering in any season. "It's always a good time to trust God," Baker says in the interview.
Psalm 20:7 says, "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we will remember the name of the Lord our God."
Are you overwhelmed from looking at your bank account? How about the news cycle? Baker says to challenger yourself to take a look at what you are feeding your mind.

One question that has always bugged me is this. Why did Jesus say do not take with you a money bag or do not worry about what you will eat and he sent them on the mission field. Why didn’t Jesus have a time place to rest his head he quotes in the Bible. From reading the text it doesn’t appear neither him or the apostles lived a lavish wealthy lifestyle. That’s simply the outcome I gather after reading the scriptures. They were mostly persecuted and martyred and in and out of prison. It just doesn’t sound like they were prosperous in their finances and it had nothing to do with my stuff. Seems more like yes god will meet your needs but not so much your wants. He knows what you need and I think most of us pray with the carnal mind confusing needs for wants.

Oscar, Jesus told his disciples to "not take anything" but now we are hearing a gospel that says "acquiring stuff - money and valuables - is okay in order to follow God's purpose for your life. I'm going to stick with the instructions Jesus gave rather than the updated version of the prosperity gospel.

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”” ‭‭John‬ ‭6‬:‭26‬-‭27‬ He’s upset or clearly not happy that they are seeking him. He’s angry - Jesus is angry that they are seeking him? Why? They were seeking him as useful - for the money, the bread, the health, the prosperity. He’s useful to my stuff. I heard this preached by John piper my spirit really bore witness to this being truth and so for many years I have allowed that view to shape my view on prosperity but having learned about Andrew Womack and Jim Bakker my spirit Aldo bears witness to this also being the truth.

At about 8:10 Baker gives a definition of prosperity. It can sound really solid but it totally misses the the points Jesus made about prosperity. Baker says "prosperity is having more than enough resources to fulfill every divine assignment God has for you and enough left over to help others fulfill theirs". Once again it only sounds good at first glance. This definition focuses a person only on EARTHLY prosperity. You know, that place where Jesus warned us in Matt 6:18 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

At about 6:15 Baker quotes someone else "...money is the root of all evil". He then supposedly quotes 1Tim 6:10 and again says "money is the root of all evil". That is incorrect. 1Tim 6:10 reads For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. It's the love of money that is the issue not money itself. To me it sounds as if Baker is teaching that it is OK to run after money IF you give an appropriate amount to help the church or others. I don't believe that is what Jesus and the apostles taught.

At about 7:20 Baker says "In the kingdom more money equals more impact". That is absolutely NOT true. On the surface it can sound compelling but it really isn't. Jesus didn't train his disciples to follow that mantra. In fact he did the opposite. To start building his church Jesus instructed them to "take nothing for their journey including no extra clothing nor money". I just don't believe that Baker, and others who teach the same, are wiser than Jesus.

God did not need rich people to bring the Pentecostal outpouring 100 years ago and spread it around the world, he only needed normal people willing to give small amounts in offerings. He did great things with little. You are deceived if you think you need to be rich to accomplish something for God.

People didn’t give little, they gave with what they were happy to give. Jesus commended the woman who gave in the worlds perspective really little to the temple, yet it was all she had. She gave all she had. It’s the same thing with the kid who provided the loaves and fishes, he didn’t have enough in a worldly perspective but he was willing to give it anyway. It’s a matter of the condition of your heart. If a lot of people who had only little to give because that’s all they had gave, it still adds up. Bible also shows people should be providing to others as they can and not just using words. You still need the provision.

@@nessz885 The story of the poor widow giving everything is normally taught starting at Mark 12:41. The story actually starts a few verses earlier at 12:38 - 38 And in his teaching he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces 39 and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, 40 who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” So the big picture is this - first Jesus details some of the things scribes are doing wrong which includes 'devouring widow's houses". Then he has the disciples view the offerings so they can literally see for themselves the impact of the scribes erroneous teaching. Jesus has them witness the destruction of a widow's resources by the widow doing what the scribes had taught her to do. Bottom line - Jesus was NOT commending the widow's action. He was NOT holding up the widow as an example of how we should give. The widow was being exploited by religious leaders.

No it is not biblical. The prosperity gospel does not create disciples. When ever I see people prosper financially they fall away from God. God does not want us to covet the rich.
