Hi. Recent Purdue grad here. This is true and has been happening for 5+ years. I was almost in this situation actually with Cary. They don't care about the students. All they care about is how many they can get in a single year and how much money they can make to keep roads and buildings blocked and under construction for years to come.
@jam96233 жыл бұрын
Absolutely true about them!!! I am an online student and you are correct, they care nothing about their students, just money

Wow thanks for sharing these honest experiences guys! As an international student, I am applying for next year and have heard many great things about purdue, and that it also gives great aids and even full rides. It's the real cost of freezing tuition every year since 2013. They have to make up the money somehow and are doing it by admitting way more students. Purdue should do what other universities have done as a happy medium: tuition still goes up every year, but you pay the same tuition rate for four years (so it doesn't raise on you during your time in college). Your senior year tuition is the same as freshman year.
@notbryan59523 жыл бұрын
Apparently a lot of people in the military are dumb because they’re comparing this to barracks. You didn’t pay to live in your barracks, you actually got paid, these kids are paying $50,000 a year with the expectation they get a dorm room. I know the military is the only thing you know but come on. If you’re paying for something, you have an expectation that it’s going to be what you paid for. If this happened when I was in college I would of transferred schools. It’s tens of thousands of dollars, part of that cost is supposed to be housing. You’re getting paid and these kids aren’t.

Also, in the military, you are not expected to do tasks that require concentration in your high capacity barracks. You are required to clean and maintain the barracks, as well as sleep there, but any studying that may be required happens in a different room. Some people on bases may refer to the area they sleep and study as barracks, but these are the low capacity version, with 1 or 2 people per bedroom. It's not a lot of space, but it's the size of what a college freshman would expect to receive for the amount of money they paid their university. A more multi functional space must be a more private space, even the military understands this. I don't know why Perdue can't accommodate this.

I'm going to college soon so I can't say yet, but I think you eventually become so used to their presence you stop caring. Sort of like in the military when you're in those barracks for the first two months of training.

Housing doesn't need to be fancy, yet these colleges spend millions on a brick in the pathway. So what they need to do is build cheaper housing and the government needs to increase spending on education. The solution is NOT to raise prices in order to shut out poor students, which is what you are suggesting.

In Europe, not as many people have access to higher education. In Germany, if you don't pass the current test issued at age 10, you're basically locked out. As for studying, there's many places as well as the libraries, starbucks, study rooms, wherever you want kind of. The lawns, parks, other friends' places. A lot of places have single rooms for people or places where you have your own separate space behind a single door with a shared bathroom and kitchenette - kind of like a small one roomed apartment.
