It’s not just chocolate anyway. It’s a hint of chocolate as well as vanilla & the leavening is really quite unique as it uses the buttermilk and vinegar to react with the baking soda and cocoa to leaven the cake, making it really tender.

There’s more than a hint of chocolate in the cake. It’s definitely a chocolate taste to it after using cocoa powder.

@@darrylskylar8757I’m saying a hint as in it isn’t fully chocolatey like it’s not, at least it’s not supposed to be, a strong cocoa taste. There’s only like 2 or 3 tbsp of cocoa.

@@darrylskylar8757and also, if it was ‘just chocolate’, you’re assuming that red velvet cake & chocolate cake taste the same. They don’t - they have properties that distinguish them both. So one can prefer one over the other. Therefore, red velvet is its own flavour.

@@xolio1993 what are you talking about? All I said was their was more than a hint of chocolate. I never gave exact measurements and I certainly didn’t say it had a “strong” (your word not mine) hint of chocolate. Also when did I compare red velvet to chocolate cake? They are completely different cakes that use different types of chocolate. Yes red velvet has a chocolate taste but not similar in taste to chocolate cake.

There's somethinf special with red velvet cakes that I love, as mentioned its sooo tender and tastes different from chocolate cakes (for me) and I love the texture.

I bake red velvet cakes that everyone loves. While I do put cocoa powder in the cake, it’s not enough to be considered a chocolate cake. My red velvet doesn’t taste like chocolate.
