Each month, I track which sports cards you can buy for under $50. Well, these recent sales absolutely blew my mind. Why were the deals so great? Well, it may be a result of the National. With so many collectors attending the National and trying to save up funds for their budget at the show, it may result in even better deals in the card market. Let's take a look at 40 cards from the 1950s of some of the all time best players like Mays, Aaron, Koufax, Rose, and Clemente. Some of the all time best Hall of Fame players are selling for incredible prices, and it may make you consider going on a shopping spree while the prices are low.

Rather than saving up for the Natty, I believe what you’re seeing is simply supply and demand. There is certainly no shortage of these1960s cards, and nothing rare about them. Most people are struggling just to pay their bills in this inflationary economy. That means less money for cards that can easily be acquired at anytime in the future.

I just watched your opening minutes of this video. As someone who has consistently bought before, during, and after The National, I actually think prices go up. KZfaqrs hype up the National and people (in general) follow the hobby very closely during late July, whether they are actually attending or not. Just my opinion, big fan of your videos!

This is the Monday after The National and I’m catching up on some of your videos. I tried Ebay auctions for cards such as 49 Bowman baseball (Campanella, Ashburn), many 33 Goudeys, 56 Topps Jackie Robinson, 53 Topps Paige, 67 Topps Seaver, etc. All these auctions were closing during The National and I found very, very competitive bidding with sale prices at or above comps. I struck out on all that I bid on. I guess the word got out about trying to win auctions during The National and all those who didn’t attend were all trying to win Ebay auctions driving winning prices up. It was a nice idea, but apparently the word got out and I didn’t find bargains on the cards I bid on. Oh well, we’ll get ‘em next year. Oh by the way congrats on getting the Banks rookie. Great card!

Interesting that some of the auctions picked up. Earlier in the month, it seems like cards were going cheap. Maybe all the National videos had all the people at home inspired to buy some cards!!

As a political adviser once said to President Clinton “ Its the economy stupid “. I’m not calling anyone stupid. However, as much as we are looking forward to the National, I’m thinking the final consensus from dealers will be negative as far as sales. I don’t think they will do as well as in the past due to economic problems. It may be an opportunity for buyers or a stalemate on prices dealers need to get to support their investment attending the National. Its obviously a falling market at the time. It’s hard to say which way it will go. Regardless, the overall view is a buying opportunity for collectors. If supply out weighs demand prices will drop. An interesting question will be. Will a dealer take a loss on a card to not take a loss of attending the show ? Just a few thoughts, stay focused on what you want your collection to be long term. Concentrate on rare cards to add, as the more common base cards will always be there. Try not to buy anything you may see at a local card show. This is your chance to add something you don’t typically see. And good luck to all !

Great video! Not the focus of your video but I noticed that even some of the PSA 9's were a little off centered. Particularly with PSA you can't count on great centering regardless of the grade. Someone said that many of the higher graded cards that people are selling are the ones that aren't well centered. Interesting thought.

There are some fine deals out there, I wouldn't say best time ever, but it, will be interesting to see, however what the National will entail. As a lot of vendors are, probably looking to move higher end cards. I am going to assume the lower end cards will remain affordable, and the ''moon shots'' will still be ''moon shots'' or slightly less depending on how much room (also how much they put into the card) which then, could play a role when it comes to negotiating. We will find out. @12:04 Being an Orioles fan does make the hobby fun. For me. Mine is in, a higher grade, though. You ask a good question. A lot of these inexpensive cards, the grading, hasn't added much value. It's possible some of these collectors thought they would have received something other than it did. Am not entirely sure. Just speculating. But really good video. Hope you enjoy the weekend.

My Opinion: Excluding HOF rookie cards, you will always be able to find vintage auction bargains for two reasons: #1) A massive increase in the population of vintage slabs (especially mid to lower-grade) since the COVID boom; #2) There are a lot of vintage collectors who only collect raw cards. National, or no National, you should be able to produce this video again and again in the future as the production of mid to lower-graded vintage slabs greatly exceeds the number of graded vintage buyers.

This is the time… Lots of boomers tailing off, fewer gen Xers than boomers == prices go down. What happens when Millennials hit their 40s and 50s? With many more of them than gen Xers, do prices boom again when they arrive at their peak earning years and their risk tolerance for modern goes down?

At the other end of these auctions are sellers banging their heads against their desks. Ironically, I'm sure some of them expected to cash in on a Mays bidding frenzy after his death. Not so much. But these sellers had ample opportunity to know about auction performances in recent months. I shouldn't talk. I consigned some cards to Greg Morris and shudder to contemplate this weekend's results. Maybe it's a good time for the seller side of me to take a break and watch the market for awhile, snapping up auction bargains like these.
