Too Catholic and to rigorous kind of sound like good things now a days, comparatively speaking. Why would you buy a Catholic curriculum and not want it to be Catholic?

How can a Catholic homeschooling organization be "too Catholic?"??? I am a traditional Catholic; we attend the Traditional Latin Mass, follow Pre-VII traditions, and basically stay away from the modernization that has caused such a split in the Catholic Church. I use Seton, and other than a few differences, I love that every subject is centered around the Faith. I've homeschooled my six children for over 15 years; I've used Mother Of Divine Grace, Our Lady of Victory, Homeschool Connections, and a few of my kids even did their last few years on the states online homeschool cite. I don't think Seton is too Catholic, in fact, and in some aspects, it's not Catholic enough. Our Lady of Victory is very pre-VII and very traditional, which I love; however, I went with Seton because I liked their layout and how it's organized, plus I think the way they incorporate the Faith into the little details is a wonderful way of showing my children that our Faith is who and what we are; we are to live in this world not be of this world. I think Seton does an excellent job reminding us that teaching the Faith is the most important part of educating our children.

We used Seton for 10 years. At first, I thought it was to old fashioned, but it grew on me. I am so glad during those years, we used it. My kids love the Lord, Mama Mary, the Saints and all things Catholic. I feel so blessed. We moved on because things became to tough to teach in High School, so we joined a partnership and do things on line. Since we have the catechism down we know longer need to study that. In stead we study what ever pops up that week. Church Fathers, philosophy, apologetics, our own bible studies, and frequent the sacraments. If it were not for Seton I don't know if my kids would love the church as much as they do. You should be a spokesperson for Seton either online or in one of their magazines.

I'm so sad to hear that people think it's "too Catholic". We are in our 5th year doing Seton and we have loved it. I love that our faith is involved in every lesson! Sacred art! We would love to count nuns😁 I was amazed at my son's cursive doing Seton! So proud! Every lesson has been great! The stories in the reading is fantastic, also! I love that it expresses doing charity!!!!! Anyway, I can't say enough about how we love Seton!

Hey! Don't worry about the light or the kids! That's life! My question is, why does anyone complain about the Catholicity? I mean... If you're Catholic, you should live it. The name references in the handwriting could have been saints... or not! If children hate school it has a lot to do with the dynamics of the parent/child relationship. Seton can be monotonous, but no where on earth are we continually happy. Children have subjects they dislike no matter what school they attend. I appreciate your video!

Oh my goodness! This makes me want to dive right in to Seton!! :) I have bought some of their materials second hand and thought they were awesome. I was introduced to the history curriculum while doing the free online Charlotte Mason Catholic curriculum, Mater Amabilis. And I LOVED it. I, like you, am a convert and love how you said that it's helpful for us to learn at a child's level along with our children. It helps us grasp things that many cradle Catholics were taught in Catholic school or something their Catholic parents knew. :) I am seriously contemplating starting a KZfaq channel just to connect with you Catholic sisters! Thank you for the lint on your shoulder and gum on your magazine bc what keeps me from it is looking around and wondering how I could ever be polished enough!! I thoroughly enjoyed your video and respectful tone when explaining those of a different opinion. :) Blessings!!

I actually really loved Seton. We went with CHC this year and I kind of regret it. Seton suited our family much better and my kids did so well with it.... I found CHC soooo stressful to teach... I definitely didn't find Seton too Catholic. I actually cried when I opened the box and pulled out all of the beautiful books with all of their beautiful pictures and content and I also felt it helped our family to grow in faith... I am planning to go with Seton again once we finish up with CHC

I grew up going to public school where there isn't really much good talk about Catholics/the Catholic church, especially in history class. I went to a separate religion class on Sundays, which now doesn't seem like we got enough education about our religion. I think Seton does a wonderful job of incorporating religion in every aspect of their studies just by what I've seen in grades ahead and in what we've accomplished thus far in the pre-k curriculum.

Unfortunately, I have heard that " Seton's too Catholic" , and it's perplexed me ever since. I too am a convert and we came from being Protestant. We've also homeschooled for many years now. But in our Protestant days I never , ever and still to this day, ever hear " This curriculum is too Protestant." So the very fact that I hear people say that Seton is too Catholic just dumbfounds me. Why would you not want it to be Catholic, and Catholic in every way? You are teaching your children to love their faith. Lord only knows that our kids need it more than ever today in the climate that we live in.

Do you do every subject every day? I know you said handwriting is like once or twice a week, but what about the others? On Seton, I saw example lesson plans and saw day 1- day 5 and/or Monday, Tuesday, etc.... Do you ever double up to make like History M,W,F or anything like that? I know I can do whatever I want, but I'm wondering what works for you? Just trying to weigh options and gather experienced views...(anyone on here can add their input also)

Audrey S. Great question! I think it’s different for every family but for me this is how we do it... Daily subjects: Religion English Phonics Reading Math Roughly 3x a week: History Science Once a week (atleast for now because the kids are doing well on these subjects on their tests): Vocabulary Handwriting Art Music And then Spelling depends on each child and where they are and how much attention they need

Thank you for this review! I have been looking at the "Catholicism COmes to the New World" book for Gr. 4. My son has been using MasterBooks and loves it- he's not big on "traditional workbooks" but have found I would like to add Catholic religion and history books. I've found a lot of Christian curriculum out there is sadly anti-Catholic. Does the New World curriculum focus on World history or American history? Just curious as we are not American and don't need US History :)

StFrancis1982 I would just do about 10-15 minutes a day in the morning with working with the books. And then personally we watch alittle leap frog show and sing songs together. The most important part is a gentle rhythm to the day. And special things each day like Monday fold laundry, Tuesday go to the library Wednesday Bake bread etc. just little things to anchor the week and to help give you a sense of peace and accomplishment!!

Sharon Pinto hi there! If you want to enroll your kids with Seton it’s about $500 for each child. It’s a bit more for middle and highschool I believe. I have never understood people who said Seton is "too Catholic". Um, if you are Catholic, how can it be TOO CATHOLIC?? We are supposed to live our faith, and we are supposed to have it permeate each part of our lives. I have seen that many people who say Seton is "too catholic" are those who are not letting their faith permeate their lives, or they are not Catholics who go to Mass every week and actually live the faith. Also, when a person does not accept all the teachings of the church (or at least are working on understanding the tenets they do not agree with), they will say it's "too Catholic". What I would say is that Seton is traditionally Catholic, and some of the materials may seem dated to some people. I think that's more the issue. The stories in the Catholic readers, and the way the people are dressed are really different than what we are used to. At first, my daughter dismissed the stories as being too old fashioned, but when we started talking about the universal truths that they contain, she saw how timeless they actually were. I appreciate Seton. We have used it K - 8 fully enrolled. We tried Mother of Divine Grace for 9 and 10, and they just didn't work out for us well, and our daughter asked to go back to Seton. We didn't choose well, so we will be re-doing 10th with Seton. We are looking forward to getting back in the fold.

It drives me crazy to hear people trash on Seton. We don't use Seton for one simple reason, it doesn't fit with our educational philosophy as well as other curricula resources. I suspect that those who trash on it have also found that it doesn't fit with their educational philosophy and they may just not have the background in various philosophies to explain what they need.
