@@felipelombarde3346 He may specialize in them but that doesn't mean all of them are viable to use! There's like, five steel type lines in the entire game, Beldum Magnemite Aron Mawile and Skarmory. Unfortunately that just doesn't make an excellent team for a champion and giving him two Aggrons and probably a Metang just isn't spicy enough. It's also partially why I believe they replaced Steven with Wallace in Emerald. Yeah he specializes in steel types but there isn't enough to go around to build a whole team around it, so it makes more sense to build his team around shit he'd find in his travels and hobby.

Mega Metagross is nasty as fuck if you didn’t pick Torchic. Mega Blaziken is too OP with the speed boost.

I am guessing that while Lance has many weaknesses, his power is all there. His pokemon are fast and have great potential to kill you before you kill him. Rock and Ice types are not always the fastest and he has a fire and water type to attempt to counteract his… tbh flying specialty. Steven on the other hand has the other problem. He is too defensive. With the moves he has, he doesn’t do enough and his slow bulky team can be taken apart with enough power until Metagross comes in to beat you down. From watching younger kids play vs Steven, they easily dismantle his first few pokemon, but struggle with his ace… Still his first 5 are simple enough that they end up throwing bodies at Metagross until they win.

See you are looking at this from a skewed perspective. Just Because I can solo sweep Lance with a Mamoswine or a Starmie with Ice Beam doesn’t really mean he doesn’t have power, it means we pretty much destroyed him before he could use it. You cannot say a team is bad just because you can perfectly answer it. Look at a PVP tournament where a cheater who got all team data early used Double Kick Terrakion to ruin a team that ran Focus Sash Smeargle. Just because the other person fully countered him doesn’t mean his team was bad. On paper, Lance focused all his efforts into high power moves, but is easily torn apart by a single pokemon if done right. Steven focused way too much on defense, surviving hits, but not being able to dish them out. He had a special Aggron in RS. Both of them have opposite, but crippling issues that justify them being in the same tier.

@TheDemonRaticate what? It's not about having perfect counters, it's about the team being constructed with 4x weaknesses to common attacking moves. Ice, Fire, Water and Electric are very common because of their iconic 90/95 attack damage, 100 accuracy moves. Someone on your team is bound to have Ice Beam, Flamethrower, Surf and or Thunderbolt by the time you reach the League. Basing a team around mons who have a 4x weakness to one pf tgose types is pointless

Spikes could be cleared by rapid spin back then, that's the whole reason the move existed. Defog didn't exist yet, and when it was introduced it didn't clear hazards on your own side till gen 6. Now, most rapid spinners sucked, and rapid spin was 20 BP and did not grant a speed boost like it does in gen 8 onward.

I agree! I have rethought my Lance ranking a lot since I made this one, and while I stand by Steven being a B tier, I think putting Lance any higher than C is unfair to the rest of them. I think I’m going to make a new video re-ranking Lance soon! And thank you for the comment, well said

I am inclined to agree, I think I may start shifting around rankings as I get further in - a tier sounds good in your head, but then you pair it up against your other rankings and realize you may need some wiggle room

A challenge ? Steven ? Hear me out: Pick Blaziken as starter. Get the mega gem. Teach him swords dance and 2 physical stabs. SWEEP.

@@ifeeldead463 dianthea's entire team is weak to either fairy or steel. But there's no good pokemon with that double typing except mega maxime which I'm not sure you can get before the league. And even then, it's a bit too slow. Steven has 3 Rock types and 3 steel types so I heavily advise a fighting type or ground type. Sure, Metagross and Skarmory are neutral to fighting but it can be dealt with a fire type move. So sword dance mega Blaziken deals with 5 of Steven's pokemons. If you didn't pick it, swampert's ground typing is super effective on 3 pokemons on Steven's team. Skarmory, Cradily and Claydol being the troublemakers. Claydol won't cope well with Waterfall and Skarmory can be taken down with Surf if necessary (yeah I know swampert is physical but it's special attack is decent and skarmory is very defensive on the physical side) which only leaves Cradily that you can handle if you run Hammer arm. Ultimately swampert can deal easily with 5 (I recommend work up instead of Surf) I recommend using not-primo Kyogre simply to set the rain. You can open with it, switch him to swampert, mega, destroy the opposing team until Skarmory comes out, send a fodder, wait until the rain ends, send Kyogre back, throw a thunder, then switch to swampert again and slaughter.
