KZfaq is VERY VOD oriented. They need a Livestream tab on Mobile like shorts and have a proper recommendation tab for the average viewer to watch a livestream they’d mist likely click to watch. They’ve done this so quickly with news, if you scroll for just a few seconds you’ll find all the news you could ever consume, add something like that for popular/upcoming streams.

Finding streams on YT is a serious issue. I've been watching livestreams on YT/Twitch for a while and that's always been an issue for me, it's so much easier on twitch. Other than discoverability, even for streamers that I'm subscribed to, it will be hard to know if they are live because the toolbar on the left side does not update dynamically, you have to refresh the tab in its entirety to see who is actually currently live if you've been in that tab for a while. Along with that, there aren't push notifs like there are on twitch when a streamer you follow goes live. These are very simple things to implement that would allow YT to begin to eclipse twitch in the live stream space

Honestly KZfaq streaming has decent discovery - I've done a few streams, and although I just started, I've had people stop by and tune into my stream. I've found it depends on the game (Twilight Princess being more popular), but even without it setup properly in KZfaq gaming I had some viewers stop by. Honestly not sure if anyone would've stopped by on twitch, but I haven't had that experience, so I can't say for certain Provided these are all my opinions, but YT seems to be getting better with the streaming discovery

I really think that if Twitch doesn't step it up, SOON, KZfaq will become the hub for livestreaming. Twitch has no real possibility for exposure, sucks to use on desktop, has incredibly intrusive ads, is slashing the amount of money people are making, and watching any past VODS is like sticking nails in your eyes. KZfaq has problems but Twitch can be downright painful to use, both from a creator and consumer standpoint. Edit: changed "discoverability" to "exposure" because I muddied up my own point
@purpleguy3924

tbf youtube has even less discoverability imo, its hard to search the people you want to find if they are small as u can have any name you want, you dont really get livestreams on recommended, theres not a good livestream specific tab where u can browse certain games like twitch, theres nothing... As a viewer, finding streams is next to impossible unless I watch that creator regularly (in which case it pops up in my recommended) and/or I am subscribed to them (finding streams through the sub box). Sykkuno has a pretty strong KZfaq game, with the amount of views he gets on average and the amount of subscribers he has, so I think he may do better in terms of an average viewership perspective. KZfaq streaming seems to only be feasible for big creators who are streaming for the purpose of creating a KZfaq video or if they’re just doing well on KZfaq in general. But that’s how I see it at least.
@etekweb
@etekweb 2 жыл бұрын
From what I've seen with smaller creators I follow, it tends to work well for them to build their audience around prerecorded videos, and then do livestreams from time to time, rather than trying to go the other way around. KZfaq's algorithm is simply more tailored towards recommending prerecorded videos. Something I think they could improve on, especially recommending more streams to people who regularly watch streams. But I imagine it's tough to do that without interfering with the rest of the platform (ie. those that don't want to watch livestreams).
@Chachixo
@Chachixo 2 жыл бұрын
@@etekweb I've been thinking about this and I really don't think it would interfere with much. I get recommended so many videos I don't care about as it is. When creators I'm subbed to are live, their streams show up in my recommended over and over again and look just like any other video. If people don't want to be recommended lives, they can mark it as uninterested like they already do. I wish KZfaq would add more options when you remove suggestions though - could fix a lot of issues.

I think one more thing Lud failed to mention is the growth of the "Ludwig Ecosystem" in KZfaq as a whole. Not only is the main channel bigger than ever before, Mogul Mail, his clip channel, VOD channel, and The Yard have benefited a lot as well. I sometimes find myself in a Ludwig pipeline where I watch 1 out of context Yard short and somehow end up watching 2 hours of SAP. At 7:15 you don't necessarily HAVE to schedule a stream. On that "Go Live" on the left is "Stream". Clicking on that will take you to a generic stream setup that you can save, so if you wanted to you could just go there and hit "Start Streaming" on OBS and you're good to go. Doesn't solve for notification delays, but it's effectively the same as Twitch at that point. In that page you can then also update stream name, thumbnail, etc if you want (or just ust the same thumb all the time though it's probably less effective for viewership).

It's probably better to schedule from an SEO standpoint. It also gives one a chance to pump out notifications on Tiktok, YT Shorts, Insta, FB, and Twitter - to drive as many people to your channel as possible. Of course I haven't actually tried it myself, but in terms of promotion it might be better to do.

When talking about having to schedule streams in advance, I want to say 2 things: 1. When people talk about you being late for streams, I don't believe they actually care very much (pretty sure you know that but just in case you don't) but more importantly 2. If you just made a community post/twitter post/said this during stream/all of the above, and explained that your scheduled live stream times are just suggestions for *around* when you're planning to start stream, it'll clear up a lot of the confusion and you'll see a lot less people complaining in the future. I saw this being done on a hololive steamer's channel and although I think those streamers have much more loyal and instantly accepting fans, the concept still stands, and it will be a positive thing that can make this situation less of a big deal.

I think the downside he mentioned at the start is the real problem with all of this, KZfaq gaming is horrible to find and is terrible at putting creators in our faces to select and it's just done better on twitch, if they put some grunts to work and come up with a solution then that would really change the game for KZfaq gaming and make it a much more viable platform for a lot more people. My prediction for the future of livestreaming: Everyone already has a KZfaq account, content creation and KZfaq and Twitch always go hand to hand (The vast majority of Twitch streamers maintain active KZfaq channels), and if Twitch keeps on screwing their creators KZfaq will eventually become the best option to stream all around. KZfaq Live is already dominating the market in Asia, and they have proven there that It works, and that its profitable. If we look at it objectively the things keeping most people on Twitch are Twitch culture and the viewer's sunk value: People love their Twitch emotes, and people don't want to lose their fancy 2-year sub badges, but I believe it's not going to be long before the pros overweight the cons of switching to KZfaq Gaming.

I barely touch twitch as it is, but trying to find vods there was even more frustrating. Its so nice to have just a playlist on youtube where i can immediately find what I want after seeing a thumbnail for it earlier! I've heard that ad revenue on twitch is pretty bad but since twitch doesn't let people talk about that number I don't know for sure. @itsederrengifo
@itsederrengifo 2 жыл бұрын
ad revenue depend on the CPM, or the cost for the advertiser for each 1000 views of content, since KZfaq algorithm is so advance that guarantees your ad to be seen by the right people, their CPM is pretty high because the advertiser will have bigger changes to convert. For the creator, this means they will get more money from their views. In the other hand, Twitch CPM is really bad because develop better algorithms is very expensive, so what they do is increase the spam for users to be more exposed to "ad time"... This is the main reason Twitch is kinda doomed long term. Ads are the only way they can make the platform profitable, but they cannot compete with KZfaq in that market, so they are relying on the patience of their creators and viewers to push as far as they can until Bezos decides to sell the platform

Former twitch employee friend of mine said a while back that the ease of streaming is what would decide which platform will rule in the future, which I really do not agree with, otherwise discord would be the next big streaming platform, but it does matter still. Small streamers without contracts with platforms are still likely gonna choose twitch over youtube simply because of how much easier it is to stream there

Often times in the Vtuber community, a big streamer will have a free day, tweet "Hey if anybody wants to stream together and play something, I'll be in my discord...." and a random collab stream will happen. @@slbhugomarques2 I suppose some examples of this happening, not specifically as OP says, but there are times where hololive EN members or nijisanji EN members I've seen have an open voice chat on discord so any other member can hop in and be apart of it. Major example is of holoCouncil's big boom on this in Minecraft, when the streams would have people join sporadically versus the normal scheduled collabs, it brought on some new guerilla content for everyone. I don't have many other examples, but I suppose to answer OP, the difference is if the big streamers are even in the same discord with others, otherwise they wouldn't be able to join the channel as easily than if they were to message each other and do that instead. There's moments on twitch where they interact by watching each other's streams, but other than that, I don't think the impromptu discord channels would work much for IRL streamers.

This has been mentioned many times by many streamers. How can they bring people they know absolutely nothing about, much less trust, onto their screen? What are the benefits vs potential liabilities? This is why both Ludwig and QT have suggested that you do fun collaborations with other streamers approximately your size and grow your audience together, just like so many big streamers that people watch regularly now got to know each other in game lobbies like Among Us back when they were much smaller streamers, and still share their audience.

Starting on youtube I think would be very difficult since there's almost no discovery on youtube, twitch is much easier for people new to being a creator to build an audience since there's lots of people on twitch who enjoy watching small streamers and participating in smaller communities, not to mention being able to filter by game directory helps people grow a lot but the big reason we're seeing A LOT of big streamers on twitch swapping platforms now is because twitch announced they're (potentially) cutting partner revenue. In a previous video from Ludwig I think on mogul mail he was discussing how twitch didn't want to give partners a 70/30 split on subs anymore and is talking about dropping it to 50/50 essentially cutting their sub income by 20%, that on top of twitch not really caring about their creators is pushing a lot of large streamers to leave the platform. I think the vast majority of creators with a big enough following are going to leave twitch when their contract expires simply because the platform pays less and cares less.

Honestly at this point everyone is starting to get fed up with Twitch and recent actions they’ve made and there’s going to be a catalyst set off that will make KZfaq a better hub for streaming. Whether it be Twitch making more bad decisions or KZfaq fix their platform to be more streaming friendly. Discoverability is def a thing yt should get in asap, and if they really want to become the best streaming platform, might as well fix copyrighting to be more react friendly to possibly hook in miz, xqc, or hasan. Cater to the big guys. I know culture is also a big thing Twitch has KZfaq doesn’t, it’s the only reason I kinda stick around on Twitch. Mizkif says YT lacks the twitch culture but like chat is just as spammy and degenerate. In my honest opinion everyone is already on both platforms or at least is on YT, and is engrossed in the same reddit and Twitter based drams, should cut it out with brand loyalty between one of the two monolithic tech giants. Makes me wonder what if Google was allowed to buy twitch. But yeah KZfaq should include top streams on the main page. Twitch lives and dies with the main page, but it gives everyone access to everyone, allowing you to grow from outside, here it seems you are only seen by your existing subs and those algorithmed. Not just for Ludwigs growth but others smaller CCs who decide to stream here.

Aside from the obvious problems with youtube streaming being a worse chat system and having basically no chat culture and terrible live discovery, youtube is very competitive. I love that I can go to a live stream on YT and go to the beginning of the vod while its live, and watch at 2x speed and eventually seamlessly catch up to the live broadcast. Now for react andy's, imagine if youtube could have a system in place where a live streamer could allow for a live viewing of other videos on YT similar to a watch party on twitch. Maybe the streamer's feed becomes a picture in picture with the live viewing video, and the streamer can control the video for the viewers. That way there could be an actual legitimate outlet for react andys to benefit from while also benefiting the original creators with actual views (im sure dviper would love this lmao).
