I heard of them called wood roaches. Have a story of one that was in my brother's place had decided it wanted to sit above the living room window, above the couch I was going to crash on. Hell no.. so we tried to get it, but it was above a two story window in the living room, and we couldn't get it, though we did manage to damage one of the curtain rods. We went out to Walmart at 11 pm to get a supersoaker. That worked, but the roach fell behind the couch. Ok move the couch, and knock over the CD rack with about 100 CDs in it. Start to collect the CDs only to find that the roach was hiding in the pile. Finally managed to kill it, then we had the fun task of trying to sort out the mess of the living room, clean some of the bug juice out of the carpet, and finally get to sleep sometime after 1 am.

I first encountered a huge roach in South Carolina, we had just moved into military base and all unpacked and ready to wash up and go to bed, wake up next morning doing the wash your face, brush the teeth and while I'm brushing I noticed something on the shower curtain rod , I slowly turned around and it's a huge roach and thought how in the hell that suckered get inside, I find out that these are called Palmetto bugs and they are everywhere and how they get inside is by the drain, these bugs are big but how do they get inside with that shower grate is crazy, they also can fly and everytime I saw one I didn't kill it but sucked that puppy up with the vacuum. I could say I vacuum at least more then I could count in 4 years.

That Texas roach had a distant cousin ancestor that I met in Alabama in the middle of the night in the kitchen of my new apartment in 2000. Same attitude. "What?" It just stared at me, acting like it was going to jump off of the cupboards right at me.😂
@sirenknight80075 ай бұрын
In Florida we call them Palmetto bugs. I’m reminded of the first Men in Black…. Yes they fly. Yes they can get 3-4 inches long, like woodpiles, and are not afraid of the light or sound and will fly right at you. Thank you for one of the reminders of why I don’t live there any more. … 😂 the first time I saw one, I was sitting on the floor watching tv. It was 1981. I threw a phone book on it- you know yellow pages thick phone book- and I swear, it was trying to carry it away. Happy holidays everyone. Stay safe, buy boots, or get a 5’2” friend who isn’t afraid of anything.

As a Texan i can confirm those things are real and they are really tough and yes, they do fly. Welcome to Texas Fluffy.

I’m in Alabama. We called them ugly bugs. Mostly, they stay outside, but occasionally one would come in. It was my job to take care of it. Sometimes I just got a jar, scooped it up and tossed it out. The cats aren’t even interested in chasing them. I say “Get that bug!” and they’re all “Say what?”

I had just moved into an apartment in Alabama and that evening I heard something and looked down to see a 4" long roach running across the floor.... yes, I HEARD it running! I grabbed a can of Raid and sprayed it. No exaggeration, it stopped, turned toward me as if to say "Hey!! That's some pretty good shit! Get some DCon, the rats will be here Friday" then started walking off. But my size 10 took care of it. I moved out the next day LOL.

Sounds like the one I encountered in Mazatlan over 40 yrs ago. It was in the shower and about that big. Called housekeeping and this tiny lady came in, looked at it, said "No bite" and started to leave. I jumped up and said, "I don't care if it bites or not, I want it gone". She sighed and took care of it.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!! I moved into an apartment in Austin in 95, and about 6 months later and a 1 week apart from each other I saw two of those suckers in my apartment, and exactly the same thing happened. The first one was brown and about three and a half inches long. The one that came by a week later was black and about 3 in Long. I swatted them, I thought I hit them and the damn things flew off like nothing happened!! Look like it was bat not a damn roach! I've been here 30 years now, lived in several places since then and I never saw another one like that after those two.

I was in the US Air Force. Basic training takes place at Lackland AFB, TX. I encountered a roach. Fluffy is not exaggerating, they are that big. They say that everything in Texas is bigger, but that's not entirely true. They have tiny little red ants there. I was tasked with removing weeds along a sidewalk, when I encountered them. Don't let their size fool you. They are physically small, but they have a Texas-sized bite. They call them "fire ants". Once you get bit by them, you understand why they call them that.

You have not known fear until a southern roach flies at you. There was one time when I was around 17, I was on the computer finishing up one of my last school assignments of the year, and I just hear the subtle noise of a bug's wings flapping and the sudden sensation of hairy roach legs hitting the back of my hand. Without even fully processing what happened, I screamed and swung my arm so hard that I almost sent the computer monitor flying. The arm swing ended up launching the roach across the room just long enough for me to process what it was before it charging at me. I ended up stomping on that roach a total of 19 times before it finally stopped trying to get back up, and then I went ahead and sprayed it with some bangle bug spray anyway just to make sure it couldn't try anything when I wasn't looking.
