it reminds of the Ultraman episode which had a similar premise. only that when the antagonist of the episode sat on the chair, the spaceship absorbed him and and was turn into a gigantic monster.

That's the magic and fun of sound editing - add enough effects (mainly a lot of reverb) and you can get some really great stuff out of the silliest things.

They know they probably can't destroy it, but they have to try anyways. They detected the transport from the Enterprise. It's their duty to do whatever they can, even at the cost of their lives, to stop the Federation from gaining access to the creature. Romulans are all about duty.

Also, they have an obligation to avenge the crew of the Warbird Gomtuu already destroyed. Romulans are nothing if not Vindictive. As to why they won't let the supernova do it, it's the principle of the thing, there's principalities involved.

The only thing that even the Romulans didint count on was the defensive mechanisim that Tin-man was prepared to use to defend itself against them despite the fact that the Enteprise D would get caught up in the crossfire hell even thrown out of the system where the dying star was that was gonna go supernova.

Can you imagine how powerful of a trio they could be on adventures? Data, tam, gumpto.... Literally hyper genius Ai with support strength and knowledge of everything known... Then an insanely powerful telepath, not dianas weak ass. Gumto, an anciet living ship with its own travels, knowledge of all species and tech is experienced... Able to blow up any ship.... or toss across galaxies and who knows what else... Ib want to see that show! Borg wouldn't stand a chance

That "piece of the puzzle" is the Heinz keystone logo turned sideways to the left. The keystone is the top stone on arched doors and passageways of masonry. It also symbolizes the state of Pennsylvania, AKA "The Keystone State," home states of the Heinz company, which is best known for producing ketchup, mustard, and other sauces. They also produce Heinz beans, which are highly popular in the UK. Personally, I prefer Van Camp's pork & beans, but that's me. There's beans, lotsa beans, lotsa beans, lotsa beans out there to choose from, after all...

It's a bit annoying that Troi tried to stop Picard from letting Tam go onto Tin Man even though it was the only way to save Tin Man AND the Enterprise. If Tam doesn't go onto Tin Man, then everyone including Tam will die so they had no choice but to let him go.

4:38 - note I'm not saying the Romulans aren't their match. And this likely has to be scariest of the Romulans on the show we've seen because he actually made a threat and seemed that he was gonna do it. And he did several times. Only that the Romulan plots always seem to backfire and they often come off as funny in their personalities with their stupidity. The best comparison is the Mafia in "GoodFellas." It's not that they're not an established and powerful threat (after all La Cosa Nostra was a major, although not primary, part of New York politics, and ruled many districts in the city with an iron fist and fear) but the average Romulan comes off more like that. They're grand and well-established criminals, but they get so loud and delusional that they get caught. Romulans are like the Mafia as shown in Scorsese's movies. They're like the members of Henry's heist crew.

In the way Lt. Barkley is a stand in for Trekkie fans in general - The Tam - Gomtu / Tinman relationship may parallel the TOS Trekkies to ST-TOS. The conventions are where the fans "care for" the TOS cast.

I always thought it interesting that they chose to clothe Tam Elbrun like Peter Pan. I don't see a direct correlation, but I wonder if it was a reference to wanting to be in Neverland and not be like other "adult" humanoids.

There would actually have been plenty of ways for him to live like a hermit, but somehow he didn't find to any of them. But of a story writing flaw, maybe. There are plenty of them in this show, to drive the plot narrative.

@@Dowlphin Thought he became a mediator for situations like this: to meet someone who could understand him. He probably started off trying to be useful and because of societal pressure, but became jaded because of his telepathic induced hell and decided to look for someone similar. He's a man who is under constant tourture while around people, but despite this living hell, it remains somehow even harder to be alone. "He who can live in solitude is either God or beast". I'm surprised they didn't explore this with his character, as he seemed quite happy working with the simple minded aliens he was previously stationed with, but alas, it wasn't the point of the episode.
